Progressive House | Hardwell & W&W – The Dance Floor Is Yours
Posted by BIGLIFE on September 5, 2014
A few months ago, during an interview at A State of Trance 650 in Utrecht, Hardwell offered the following response to Armin Van Buuren in regards to what his album might sound like:
“I’m experimenting with a lot of new, different sounds. I’m a bit sick of the same formula that’s going on in EDM right now so I’m just trying to change boundaries and look at what’s going on in the rest of the world. Even in the hip hop scene and the trance scene and try to combine as much as possible.” [VIDEO]
I’m going to let that marinate as you listen to this new offering from Hardwell. Ha!
FYI | What’s The Deal With DJ Support?
Posted by BIGLIFE on August 3, 2014
‘
You heard me right. What’s the deal with bragging about DJ support? I’ve know you’ve seen it… “SUPPORTED BY” in those terrible press releases. Perhaps the most hilarious offender is Spinnin’ Records. I’m sure this will ruffle their feathers, but no one is above reproach on this site. Take a gander at the description section on their Youtube page. They always include “DJ feedback”. This is the worst.
Review | RiFF RAFF – NEON iCON
Posted by BIGLIFE on June 19, 2014
I like RiFF RAFF. It’s no secret. And not in that ironic “hipster” way. I find him infinitely fascinating, and can’t help but cheer for him. Sure, he’s polarizing. Many love him and many hate him. What you have to respect about RiFF RAFF is that he’s not afraid to be his own man. He’s original, hilarious, full of contradictions, and isn’t afraid to live outside the box.
He’s come a long way since his first appearance on “G’s To Gents”. Many dismissed him as a novelty artist, destined to make laughable cameos on World Star. Strangely, Diplo discovered his videos, signed him, and here we are. Come June 24th, RiFF’s appropriately titled “NEON iCON” album drops via Mad Decent, and is arguably the most heavily anticipated record to release in 2014.
RIFF RAFF’s brand of hip-hop is a friendly one. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, which is a large part of the appeal. There’s something for everyone in RIFF’s music, which is a large reason why he’s been so successful up to this point. Somehow, his music is enjoyed by impressionable young white female teenagers, hip-hop purists, and people who write for Vice and hang out in Brooklyn.

New York City’s own Jay Dahbi has vibes for days with this remix revisiting the house classic, Everything But The Girl’s “Missing,” and for all you youngins who might not recognize this title, I assure you once you hit play you’ll know this record. Last but not least, I just want to show my respect to all of the veteran DJs out there who were pushing house music, and EDM before it popped off, and who are still here repping their sound, and revisiting classics like this one so that the dance music of yesterday is still alive and well! Grab this free download and be sure to give this one a listen, it’s a must!
