Mashups | 5 & A Dime- Change (Dillon Francis & Diplo ft. Porter Robinson Bootleg)

Posted by on July 9, 2012

5 & A Dime is back with a vengeance just crushing it on this track. With festival season in full swing the amount of mixes we are getting is unreal, but all in all 5 & A Dime is killing it. With his mass releases 2 weeks ago this track is just a straight good remix of some solid EDM and dubstep.

House | Rey Marrasquin: They Inspire

Posted by on June 28, 2012

After discovering Rey Marrasquin almost a year ago, I was instantly captivated by his unique style of visual art. Rey’s creative process goes a little something like this: he hops on the his favorite music website (FNT of course!) and finds an inspirational track. With his creative juices now steadily overflowing, Rey creates a masterpiece, and best of all… he films the entire process.

Watching his growth over the past year and thoroughly enjoying each of his new videos made me realized that FNT needed to get a piece of the action, before it was too late. The video above features the mural that we commissioned to hang in the FNT headquarters. Something tells me that you might recognize a few of these bright stars of the EDM galaxy…

Hungry for more?! Thought so, check out his YouTube channel for more videos, or to enjoy a few of our favorites

Electro, Featured, Progressive House | Introducing: Mako

Posted by on June 6, 2012

Progressive house, that luminous, frission-inducing genre, is at a bit of a crossroads. While it is as much in flux as everything else occurring under the umbrella of EDM, I’d go as far as to say that it is also approaching critical mass. Progressive hooks once reserved for dance floors and DJ sets have entered the commercial mainstream. Trance heavyweights formerly known for their work at 140 bpm now borrow from it liberally. And not only is the genre one of the more massive and heterogeneous subsets of electronic music, it also happens to boast some of the biggest names in the business (Avicii, Tiesto, Alesso, the Swedish House mafiosos), all of whom cast long shadows and seem almost uniquely positioned to eclipse emergent talent.

But talent is talent, and today it is my pleasure to introduce you to two Los Angeles-based producers who have been quietly churning out breathtaking original progressive anthems and electro bangers while breaking into the performance DJ circuit. Logan Light and Alex Seaver — known together as Mako — bring musical training, practical experience, and abundant talent to their craft….and it shows. The two are a formidable team; Logan performed under the moniker DJ L1ght during his time at the University of Michigan, opening for heavy hitters like Wolfgang Gartner and Afrojack and even taking the decks at Coachella, while Alex attended Julliard, is classically trained in the French horn and wields some impressive compositional skill. Are they the full package? The free download below, “Beam,” would seem to indicate that they are: the top quality production, lush, orchestral synths and uplifting melodies speak to a well-honed musical ear, while the build through the chorus is tailor-made to wind up a crowd.

Read on for my interview with Logan, Mako’s set from Electro Beach Puerto Vallarta, and previews of tracks that are in the works. Be sure to keep an eye on Mako’s Soundcloud for upcoming releases.

Dubstep, Moombahton | D!RTY AUD!O – Diamond Swagga

Posted by on May 28, 2012

These past few days have felt like a musical Christmas. It has just been monster release, after monster release, after monster release. We are still trying to cut through all this music, but it has been hard with so many good tracks to distract you through the process. Being a big fan of both of these artist and avid supporters of them, D!RTY AUD!O is slowly making himself more known to the EDM scene. Getting a big release through Heavy Artillery records accompanied by a remix from Phrenik as well, what more could you want from an EP? This original Moombahton track brings a new “Swagga” to the genre if I may say. This popping laser sounding synth that D!RTY AUD!O likes to incorporate, makes it difficult not to enjoy this track. Not to mention, Phrenik bringing a heavy hitting dubstep remix that is sure to punch a hole through your face (metiphorically speaking). The best part is both artist change up their seconds drops making the tracks even more interesting to listen to. Grab both of these tracks on Beatport HERE

Here’s his newest work with San Diego’s Aether as well as one of his more recent remixes as Mister Perfect. Progressive House | Zero9 – Fire It Up

Posted by on May 16, 2012

Featured on Peak Hour Music (the label which just put out Porter Robinson’s “I’m On Fire”), Zero9 kills his latest EP “Fire It Up” with two massive Progressive House anthems. The first, named after the EP, features multiple synth build ups, then descends into a DOPE House drop at 1:48. The second, “Are U Ready?”, is also great, with a dope Complextro (a new sub-genre of EDM which utilizes elements of Electro House, Progressive House and Dubstep) beat, and has multiple incredible drops (check the first 50 seconds in). Grab the release on BEATPORT.

Moombahton | Moombah Mondays (Trap Edition)

Posted by on May 14, 2012

Moomba Blasta has been on point with their Trap uploads lately, and they have won me over. Honestly I cannot get enough of Trap-style after roaming through their youtube channel so I decided this weeks Moombah Mondays is going to be dedicated to Trap-style tracks.  Starting off with the above track; wow do I love those vocals. The quick drums and snares accompanied by that heavy bass kick are bound to get the job done for any crowd. Whether you like it or not Flosstradamus, being one of the big names in Trap, is having their tracks played out by all the big names; Diplo, Flux Pavillion, Dillon Francis just to name a few. Just to help broaden your views on the genre I have two tracks from Flosstradamus on this weeks Trap-style Mondays. One is an old track that I just fell in love with again after hearing it being freestyled over by Papoose on Sway In The Morning, 5 Fingers of Death Freestyles. The newer one entitled Look At The Sky, gives you a taste of some hip-hop infused Trap music. Both bringing some extreme boundaries together into one amazing genre that is still growing.

This next one is a secret weapon of Luminox’s that he was kind enough to give away. I never new the famous Bingo Players track Rattle would ever be pushed to these bounds, but this is one of my favorite remixes to the track. The prolonged bass kick, fits perfectly with this melody and the reversal of the melody on the second drop worked out phenomenally.

Another truly remarkable and unique interpretation of a big dubstep track. Doctor P decided to put his single Neon up for a remix competition and so far most artist have decide to just try their hand at it, but end up giving away their remixes. This one I was happy to have from CRNKN, because it is so organized and well constructed. Nothing feels forced or out of place like I have heard with other tracks. I would love to see this sort of track being played more by big EDM artist to help expand these smaller genres.
