I’ve been a sucker for that nu-disco meets house sound lately, and today’s find of the day falls on the up and coming Russian synth-pop group, Killy Cakes, with their release of “Magic.”  I love the guitar, the synths, and the 80’s sound this record has; nothing but great vibes. If you haven’t noticed yet, I’m all about these feel good tunes that keep you motivated, and just throwing it out there, this tune would make a great sample for a hip hop beat… Who would’ve thought great music could’ve came from Russia! Wish I had a download link for you guys!

Also check out their awesome remix of Mana Island’s “Beauty Spot.” Nothing but a good time!

Exclusive, Featured, House | BeatauCue – Aeropolis (Birdee Remix) [FNT Premier]

Posted by on August 12, 2013

BeatauCue - 'Aeropolis (Birdee Remix)We brought you the original plus the dubbed out remix from London dubstep duo, The Others a few weeks back, and now we have an exclusive download of another remix of “Aeropolis” from another Londoner, Birdee. The Brit produced more in the realm of disco, but with this remix, he works more with the original composition, adding his own touch to bring out the best qualities of the work from the French duo, while adding his own touch. The remix is has a brooding quality to it, yet manages to be very upbeat, tipped with with disco and funk, using a classic soul growl to make it unmistakable that the disco touch has been placed upon it. Grab the download below exclusively through us, you won’t regret it.

Swedish producer Oliver Nelson has been killing it with the remixes recently. Just yesterday he released a chill dance remix of SomeKindaWonderful ‘s “Reverse” and it sounds too cool. Funk and disco have been in this summer, and I’m not against the wave. The vocals on this track mesh perfectly with the dance flow of the record. Let this one play, and enjoy your Saturday! Must listen and must download!

Here’s another dope remix by Oliver Nelson of Everywhere’s “Eddie.” Something about the beginning that reminds of Toto’s “Africa,” and I mean that with all respect…

Chill, House | Asaf Avidan – One Day (The Knocks Remix)

Asaf Avidan - One Day (The Knocks Remix)

The Knocks made my favorite track this year, “Modern Hearts“, so I am super excited to see anything new from them. The original has been beaten to death, that is no secret. However if there is someone who can revive it from the grave, The Knocks would be among the top candidates for song-zombificaiton (in a good way). Instead of attempting to inject their upbeat, disco style into the track, they stuck with the chilled out sound of the original, adding subtle pianos and synths to support the vocal. It’s free, so grab it.

Electronic, Indie | Portugal. The Man – Purple Yellow Red & Blue (Passion Pit Remix)

Posted by on July 8, 2013

“Purple Yellow Red & Blue” has easily been one of my most played songs so far this summer. I actually enjoyed all of Portugal. The Man’s latest album, Evil Friends, which was produced by Danger Mouse. This remix by Passion Pit, though, turns the indie rock track into a groovy nu disco ballad, giving it even more colors than it started it out with. For fans of the original, you may be a little turned off by what Passion Pit did here with the chorus but give it a chance and just dance. Also, if you haven’t seen the official music video, stop whatever you’re doing, make sure there’s no one around you, and watch it here.

Electronic | Duck Sauce – It’s You

Posted by on June 25, 2013

Despite having high maintenance blonde hair, I’ve actually always preferred going to barbershops over luxury hair salons. I consider the experience to an artistic and cultural retreat. It’s like a showcase for local or up-and-coming artists, from the street art on the walls to the records on deck, and the custom creations being buzzed into the side of people’s heads. I used to have this barber, a 7 ft. tall thug with dreads all the way down his back, who would give me a Street Cred 101 about how to walk the walk, talk the talk, and the importance of staying away from boys (or else he would hold the sheers up to my neck and threaten to tell my dad). Needless to say, I’d bust out of that place feeling rejuvenated on the inside and fly as hell on the outside. Barbershops were just the place to be even if you weren’t getting your hair did. We’ve all seen the movie, you know what I’m talking about.

Duck Sauce duo A-Trak and Armand van Helden know what I’m talking about too in the video for their latest track, It’s You. Known for producing jams with a retro twist, Duck Sauce really plays up the barbershop quartet in this one, a theme I don’t think we’ve seen yet in electronic music. The release of It’s You is just one step closer to an actual Duck Sauce album, an album A-Trak calls a “comedy album.” And it wouldn’t be a Duck Sauce video if you weren’t feeling a little confused or disturbed by the end of it. By the second or third play though, you’ll be scheduling your next buzz cut and searching for disco balls on the eBay, I can tell you that much. While I could never be as cool or awesome as A-Trak or AVH, I think I could impress my friends with this song. Impress yours, too.

House, Techno | Boys Noize – Go Hard EP

Posted by on June 25, 2013

boys noize

Is there anyone out there quite like Boys Noize? With his latest EP, the aptly titled Go Hard, the talented Mr. Ridha once again proves that he’s pretty much in a league of his own. His high octane brand of acid house is present in each of the five new tracks debuted yesterday (with the possible exception of “Starwin,” which is replete with acidy squelches but ultimately a buoyant disco confection), but the more remarkable feat is the level of versatility he displays. The EP veers from ominous and consummately analogue (“Inhale/Exhale”) to techno meets trap with notes of hardstyle (the titular “Go Hard”) to the aforementioned “Starwin,” which sounds like something Madeon might make after watching the full Discovery video and then sucking down a bunch of nitrous. “Excuse Me” (escoooooz me) and “Push Em Up” are both hard-nosed dance floor jams that are impossible not to move to. Go Hard is well worth the cost of an iTunes download — in the grand Boys Noize tradition, it manages to be dark, fun, energetic and fresh all at once.
