Dubstep | MitiS – Born

Posted by on September 27, 2012

Philly-based producer and classically trained pianist MitiS is rapidly establishing himself as one of the go-to sources for chill, harmonic dubstep and floaty progressive house. While he used to deal primarily in much heavier dubstep and drumstep, his knack for melody was always apparent — as is perhaps to be expected of someone with his musical background. His latest, “Born,” is a warm and dreamy confection, and the broken bassline only serves to heighten the track’s almost surreal quality. Check out his Soundcloud for more downloads.

Bonus track: MitiS – Life of Sin (Pt. 2)

Chill | The xx – Angels (Andrea Remix)

Posted by on July 26, 2012

This is a beautiful remix, Andrea did an unbelievable job on this. The video is chill as the track itself, reflecting the track in the most usual but incredible manor. The different sceneries depicted are just as calming to watch as they are cool. Damn good remix to listen to if you just need to relax.

Hip-Hop, Rap | Chiddy Bang – Paper and Plastic

Posted by on July 18, 2012

Chiddy Bang is here once more, a fellow Northfield Mount Hermon psuedo-alumni, him, Converse and Xaphoon create a dope mix of synths and spits. The drums behind the rhymes chill like another member of the band. It’s all around a good song to cruise to late at night. Maybe a preview of a harder Chiddy Bang…who the ef knows.

Hip-Hop | Miles Jones – Magic

Posted by on June 27, 2012

Miles Jones released “Magic” about 20 days ago and I was just waiting on the entire EP Act So Strange to drop. I would have to conclude that this is still my favorite of the EP which has 5 songs that are all interesting. This Canadian rhymesayer lays it out in this super chill and short song that combines an ethereal beat with some poetic verses. This is not the jam to put on on your way to the gym or at a pregame, but lay back and relax to with your dog at the end of a hard days work (or hard days of doing nothing).

Hip-Hop | Sol – Be Good or Be Careful

Posted by on May 22, 2012

“And music never dies, it just evolves, grows into something bigger than us, bigger than life, a gift from the gods.”

Sol dropped this new track off yesterday, and although I’m a day late posting because of finals, it’s something you all need to hear. We’re used to a more laid back, chill style of rapping from the Seattle native, but he changes pace on this, taking on a simple, repetitive beat, and destroying it with smooth, SOLful, well thought out verses. Sol is going on an Earlesque(#OFWGKTA) epic international journey, check it out here. Hopefully Sol comes back better than ever, and after hearing his last release, I have no doubts he will.

Electro | Usher – Climax (Diplo & Flosstradamus Remix)

Posted by on May 9, 2012

A few weeks ago, Diplo and Flosstradamus dropped their trap musik-infused remix of Usher and Diplo’s slow jam “Climax.” Today, Diplo announced on Facebook that he would offer it for free DL if he could get 2,000 likes. Ah, the power of social media — it took no more than 10 minutes for his fans to mobilize. Diplo, of course, is a man of his word; you can now download the remix here, and he has promised to keep the link live until, and I quote, “Sony shuts it down.” Atta boy. The remix enhances the smooth vibe of the original with some chill, funky synths that complement Usher’s buttery vocals nicely. Diplo’s an international man of mystery and a proven tastemaker, so his forays into bounce, Baltimore club music and trap are definitely indicative that bigger things lie ahead for these regional niche genres. Get acquainted now.
