Abstract Hip-Hop | Young Jedi – A1
Posted by yabishcic on January 10, 2014
Sounding like it came from from some sort of retrolux time warp machine, Young Jedi, who I covered on a previous post (his production name is Ely Sounds), is releasing his first compilation of beats called ‘A1’. For those of you unfamiliar with Young Jedi, he’s been spending his time between Chicago and San Francisco over the last year and a half, articulating and perfecting his unique style. From the underground, urban-hippy music scene in SF to the flashy, embellished music style of the windy city, you can tell how the two worlds collided to create his music. This is any rappers delight, 5 perfected beats to flow over. Enjoy!

Glitch | CloZee – Gotta Get Some Sleep
Posted by BP on January 6, 2014
I can’t remember if I’ve ever posted a glitch track, but what better day than my birthday to try something new? I couldn’t be happier I found it today since, as some of you know, Chicago is dangerously cold right now and we could use a distraction. “Gotta Get Some Sleep” by CloZee is fun, bouncy, and has a great mood to it. The horns and bass are funky and fresh. I’ve been following CloZee for a few years now, and she always impresses me. The slow section around 3:10 is a cool surprise so look out for that! This song is free on Bandcamp along with a lot of other sweet songs on the “Whompadelic Trip” album.

Progressive House | Sufjan Stevens – Chicago (Peter Brennan & TCUP Remix)
Posted by Middy on January 3, 2014
The soft vocals of Sufjan Stevens have made them a popular target for remixers everywhere and the latest comes from DC native Peter Brennan and NYC producer TCUP. The two producers take full advantage of the soothing male vocals, adding their own uplifting synth melody that meshes well into the track and adds a ton of energy to the track. You can grab the remix for free, so don’t hesitate to do it below.

Hip-Hop, Rap | Alex Jordahl – Go Away (Video)
Posted by admin on December 28, 2013
It’s been a while since we’ve seen the young Chicago emcee, Alex Jordahl up here on Fresh New Tracks. Jordahl has been off at school perfecting his sound, and craft while we’ve been anxiously awaiting some new music. “Go Away” is unlike almost all of what we’ve heard out of Jordahl thus far in his career. The somber, heavily-produced track is a ballad of a lost lover and the trippy visuals add in a whole other level of depth.
I highly recommend giving the video and song a try, and let Alex know what you think!
Ambient, Chill, Electronic | Zola Jesus – Skin (Kit Pop Remix)
Posted by BP on December 9, 2013
Here’s a track fitting for this snowy night in Chicago. The light and airy vibes match the snow falling outside my windows. Kit Pop’s remix of “Skin” by Zola Jesus is breathtaking and a standout piece for sure. Ambient and soothing, this remix is a perfect way to end your weekend, wherever you are. Grab it for free if you dig it.
Progressive House | Avicii – All You Need Is Love (Maestro Harrell Remix)
Posted by Mel on December 6, 2013
Avicii’s “All You Need Is Love” didn’t make the final cut for his album and was only available as a Spotify bonus track. If I had to guess, the reason being for that is probably because, aside from the catchy melody that is in every Avicii song, it was extremely one-dimensional and clearly one of his earlier productions from before his style progressed into what majority of the album consisted of. Maestro Harrell, a DJ, producer, singer and actor from Chicago is the man who gave “All You Need Is Love” some substance and made it into a track worth multiple listens.

Hip-Hop, Preview, Videos | Supreme Regime – All American Psycho (Prod. Mulatto Beats)
Posted by Hamtaro on December 3, 2013
The young and promising Chicago group Supreme Regime delivers new music today and it does not disappoint. The quick track which is excellently produced by Mulatto Beats gives a Middle Eastern trap like beat that is full of juice. Carl Rummy goes in first and gives an erie verse for Loudmouth to then go in and smash but only for minute. Jesse finishes off the track with a husky and dirty sprite proclaiming the group as the new American Psychos. Look for more from Supreme Regime in the near future.
