Electronic | Drop Out Orchestra – Love Will Tear Us Apart (Remix) feat. a Swedish Introduction

Posted by on October 28, 2013

My time in Sweden has not only presented me with an abundance of new music, but also quite a handful of musically inclined individuals! Today I introduce to you our newest guest writer, the Swedish vixen that is Rebecca. Check out her very first contribution below, and expect to see more in the future!

As born and raised in one of the most EDM productive countries in Europe (split with the fabulous Dutchmen), my passion for electronic music developed with the Big Swedes’ earliest breakthroughs. Avicii’s “Penguins,” then with added vocals and sadly renamed and made famous as “Fade Into Darkness,” (I mean, keep it cute and original and let the birdlike mammal have its place in the industry) was my first encounter with electronic music, and with that the start of the radical transformation from the teenage rocker I was, to the grown-up raver I became. I was 16 when it started, now I’m 20, and with the obsession like an Asperger’s kid, I have no plans on stopping. I’m still listening to and keeping up with the development of everything from trance to dirty Dutch, progressive house to hardstyle, but my heart has landed in the emotional, dreamy fields of the “original” house and deep house, and the land of the mind-blowing drops of the electro house. As I’m admiring the work of my wonderful friend, party-shaker-in-crime and talented music knower Mimada, I jumped for joy when she offered a spot as a guest blogger. I feel it to be my mission to give you the input of the Swedish EDM scene beyond Swedish House Mafia and the songs your radio station killed the day they were released. I’m giving you the new and the upcoming, from a Swedes state of mind.

On to the track! Being not 17, not in sweatshirts and flipped caps, the gentlemen of the southern-based Swedish nu disco/deep house duo Drop Out Orchestra bring “maturity”  back to the DJ scene. Having a couple a years behind them may be the best of qualities when it comes to making 70’s disco influential house, as they were actually there when it happened for real. After “Be Free With Your Love” scored the billboard dance chart this year, and their remix of ”Get Lucky” was recognized during an interview with Daft Punk during the one and only Pete Tong’s BBC 1 show, the duo takes on Joy Division and manages to retouch the, sorry for stepping on some people’s toes here, old and gray melody like a facial works its magic on a post-festival face. Eric Prydz, the master of putting the magic back into songs the last decades forgotten (read: repressed), should approve with this Drop Out Orchestra rework.

Hip-Hop | Robbie Maxx feat. ReyGLPA – That Shit Cray

Posted by on October 3, 2013

Here’s some local hip-hop from Robbie Maxx featuring ReyGLPA “That Shit Cray.” I had seen this video on Twitter yesterday, and felt like showing love to these artists today. I fux with this beat heavy, reminds me of a Danny Brown record, and the fellas do their thing on it. I can see this record getting played at the clubs, it’s catchy and ignorant,  and I mean that with all respect. Also word on the street, Robbie Maxx is ‘opening up for Dirt Nasty tomorrow night at Webster Hall, so here’s to your FNT debut, and best of luck on the show!

Progressive House | Introducing: Lush & Simon

Posted by on September 7, 2013

Lush & SimonLooking for the next bandwagon to hop on? Well here it is. Italian duo, Alessandro Miselli & Simone Pioltelli or Lush & Simon are set to become the next big-room stars. I compare what I see happening to them in the next year, to what just happened to Vicetone, it is coming. Their remixes are both melodic and powerful, bringing out the best of the originals, while putting their own big-room touch on the tracks.

They have already seen support from the likes of Tiesto, Nicky Romero, Hardwell, Bingo Players, Thomas Gold, Deniz Koyu and more. These two are only getting started and before you know it, your favorite DJs will be playing their tracks out and they may be playing at your favorite venue. They have an upcoming track “City Of Lights” that has already been played on Tiesto, Hardwell and Nicky Romero’s radio shows. You can preview that track below along with 2 of their best remixes. More tracks after the jump.

Bass, Electronic, Mix | OWSLA After Dark Pt.II: Kill The Noise

Posted by on September 4, 2013

So I’m on a Kill The Noise kick, but can you blame me? He dropped his remix EP and then BOOM he unleashes this huge mix. I think Kill The Noise is an amazing artist and I’m such a huge fan of his music, but I might be an even bigger fan of his mixes. His song choices, arrangement, and transitions are always progressive and spot on. This is an hour of powerful music; it’s heavy, it’s excellently mixed, and best of all, it’s Fresh.

I’ve included Part 1 of OWSLA’s After Dark series; another bass filled mix by Jack Beats, which is also great. You can catch upcoming mixes from this series live on BBC 1Xtra. The times, dates and artists are listed on the Souncloud page I’ve linked. Here’s hoping they keep the wicked mixes coming.

Progressive House | Lana Del Rey – Young And Beautiful (Kaskade Mix)

Posted by on August 26, 2013

KaskadeKaskade is back with KMM, and he is back with a vengeance. Instead of rehashing an old remix, or giving out a bootleg he has been using in his sets, he is now releasing his highly sought after remix of Lana Del Rey “Young And Beautiful” that he has been finishing his sets with. Now that this has been released for free, it is the waiting game to see what happens with the Cedric Gervais remix and the stunning Myon & Shane 54 Summer Of Love Mix, which may the best of them all.

Electro-House | Julian Jordan & TV Noise – Childish Grandpa

Julian Jordan & TV Noise - Childish Grandpa
Childish Grandpa. When I hear that, I think of Benjamin Button. Never saw the movie, though I heard good things about it. I guess it is supposed to be an oxymoron of the child and a grandpa or just an old dude with a youthful exhuberance, someone who makes the point to have joie de vie no matter what, like my 92 year old grandpa who can still down bourbon with the best of them. The track draws on each artists’ style with a piercing, pitched lead, grinding saws, a searing guitar and crunchy distortion in the build.
