Mashups | Doug Bogan – I Can’t Let You Go
Posted by GMONEY on January 15, 2012
There has been a rumbling this week throughout the blog community regarding the overuse of samples and a general lack of creativity present in mashups of late. Doug Bogan heard those thoughts and took them to heart. For his latest track, Doug tried to break this trend and incorporate a truly unique set of samples:
I believe most listeners will be hard pressed to find some of these samples present in many, if any pre-existing mashups. Using Araabmuzik’s I Can’t Let It Go as a bumping backing track, I then added in verses from B.o.B. and J.Cole with Aesop Rock, Ellie Goulding and Jay-Z and Kanye West also present throughout the track.

Hip-Hop, Pop | Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry ft. B.o.B.

Nicki let’s the dog out of the cage on her newest single off her sophomore album, Roman Reloaded, set for a February 14th release. Amidst switching lanes between her multiple alter ego’s, she practices what has become her signature strung out sound, recycling her “…ouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuld” as she first quoted in Big Sean’s “A$$” Remix. The album is already shaping up to be as good as the first with rumored features from Wayne, Mary J. Blige, Birdman, Ricky Martin, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Miley Cyrus and Britney Spears.
P.S. Nicki Minaj definitely takes the cake for dirtiest lines of 2011. Despite that, will we see her performing alongside Madonna at the Superbowl next year? Listen for a short line that might suggest just that.

Katy Perry has seen unprecedented success since the release of her second studio album, Teenage Dream, garnering 5 record breaking singles while she now aims for a sixth with Bobby Ray. B.o.B. takes us off the blocks and caps off the end of the track with another short verse. If I had to guess, I’d say this track hits Top 40 on the radio charts as well.

B.o.B. brings us the visuals for his first radio hit off his recent mixtape, EPIC: Every Play Is Crucial, as him and Weezy head to the country side to get a better viewing of the Strange Clouds. I found the video a bit humorous in parts and Wayne is acting a fool in the majority of his parts, which added a little dynamism to the video. If you haven’t yet, go cop the full mixtape HERE and be on the lookout for a single off Bobby Ray’s sophomore album, Strange Clouds, dropping soon.

B.o.B. unleashes his newest mixtape, EPIC: Every Play Is Crucial, packed with features from A list artists such as Eminem, Lil Wayne, T.I. & several more. Some of these tracks definitely sound like album material, but count on Bobby Ray to stay faithful to his fans and deliver a free project in preparation for his sophomore album, Strange Clouds. The project showcases all of B.o.B.’s styles and is surely a promising project leading up to the album in 2012.

Hip-Hop | B.o.B., Wiz, Sean Kingston & Nicki Minaj

B.o.B. keeps the wheel’s rolling with another release, this time giving us a visual treatment for “Fucked Up”. I’d guess this track is coming with the album since a DL was not offered up with the video, but it could also find a home on the presumed mixtape set to be released prior to the album. Shot by Motion Family, Bobby Ray and Playboy Tre sample I Blame Coco’s single, “Control”, and make their way to Asia for some colorful visuals.
Here’s another freestyle from Wiz (his second of the day), this time going in over Meek Mill & Young Chris’ “House Party”. Not as hot as his freestyle over Wale’s “Bait”, but still new Wiz.

Sean Kingston appears to be live and well, ready to drop his newest single…well, almost. Here’s the unfinished leak of his new joint with big booty Nicky. Sounds like a J.R. Rotem produced beat to me, sampling “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”. Looks like Nicky hasn’t laid down her verse yet, but I’m sure once this song is finished it will be eating up the radio.
P.S. Should have got Young Simba Cole on this track.

B.o.B. recently teamed up with Playboy Tre and Meek Mill for what could be the second single off his sophomore album, Strange Clouds, due out in early spring of 2012, or another unreleased track off a presumed mixtape dropping sometime between now and then. Above are the visuals for the track, “Epic”, which the trio goes hard over the wild Lil C production in the confines of a vacant boxing gym.

Statik Selektah is only days away from dropping his highly anticipated album, Population Control, featuring a slew of stars, both young and old. “Groupie Love”, the third track off the production album features Mac Miller and Josh Xantus. Judging by the lineup, this will probably be one of the lighter tracks on the record. Stay tuned, I’ll keep you posted with more releases as the album drops next Tuesday, the 25th. Also, below is yet another unreleased cut from Mac. Sounds like an old one.

Wale laid down a short freestyle over Jay-Z’s classic, “What More Can I Say”, with hopes of keeping people tuned in prior to the release of Ambition. Wale exercises his wordplay on this one and keeps it fresh as always. Ambition coming 11.1.11.

The Roots tag label mate, Big K.R.I.T. for a verse on their new single off their upcoming album, undun, scheduled to hit shelves 12.6.11. As expected, here’s a powerful and soulful track that we’ve grown accustomed to hearing from both parties.

Diggy Diggy Diggy can’t you see! Young Simmons grabs a hook from Jeremih as the the youngin’ drops what could be the fullest song he’s released to date. I’m still not completely sold on the kid, but with time, he’s got the resources to be a star.

Future radio banger, B.o.B. goes harddddd. Love the instrumental, standard hip hop beat with a nice electro (bloody beetroots esque) twist to it. Make sure you download this one.
