Writing for FNT has its perks of hanging out with the dopest artists on the scene at the moment, and rolling with brothers Sketch and Tommy Shades, otherwise known as Bombs Away for a leg of their US tour was a true riot. You might not be entirely familiar with the duo other then the post FNT did a year back, but these guys are superstars in the land down under, have sold millions of records to date, are signed to Ministry Of Sound Australia, and love themselves some big booty bitches! After a 30 hour plane ride from Australia, straight to their performance at the Pool After Dark at Harrah’s Resort in Atlantic City, and a 2 hour drive to NYC, I had a chance to sit down with the guys, and ask them a few questions.

Check out their latest release “Assassinate,” an epic trap record, and like the boys on Facebook, follow them on Twitter, and read our exclusive interview after the jump!

Chill, Electronic | Chu. – Sunday Morning

Posted by on October 4, 2013

Chu is an upcoming artist from Australia, and definitely a name to look out for. He was one of the remixers on Slumberjack’s “Crave the Rain + Remixes” EP that came out a few days ago. This track would suit listeners who like more of an ambient electronic sound, not so much a party sound. I could see this light and airy track being something to listen to while studying, driving, or just hanging out. This track is released under Die High Records and is free on Bandcamp!

Electro, Trap | Wave Racer FBi Minimix

Posted by on July 11, 2013

Where do I even start with this mix… like hold the phone, WOAH. Ima take a quick second to explain to you what happened the first time I heard about this Australian DJ. See that picture above? That was it. The moment the sound waves in “Rock U Tonite” hit me, I was transported into distant land of dolphins, topless Jeeps, girls in 80’s vintage swimsuits and rainbows. Lots of rainbows. It’s possible I even shed a tear. That picture above isn’t some artist’s rendition of my experience, but rather Wave Racer’s Soundcloud user photo. He took me there. And it was awesome.

Anyways, Wave Racer crafted this mix for the Sydney-based radio station FBi 94.5, who described it as…

… [A] melodic treacle drizzling over sweet vocoder that melts like honeycomb in the mouth. All resting on a bed of dense synthcake and thick yet brittle percussion. It’s music too delectable to refuse.

I know that’s a lot to handle (who knows what those upside down Aussies are on these days) so lemme break it down for you. You’ll happen to notice the tracklist doesn’t include any of Wave Racer’s own songs. This mix, rather, is more of a compilation of some of his biggest inspirations (see: Cashmere Cat and Rustie) as well as artists with a similar style who are, essentially, artists you should get to know.

Overall, this mix, and all the artists featured on it, rock. It’s vivacious, it’s psychedelic, it’s carefree, and even at times, it gets a little sensual. Just another example of the thunder DJs are packing down under. Take note.

Progressive House | Ryan Riback & Terri B – Dance Like There’s No Tomorrow (Marcus Santoro Remix)

In his admittedly short catalogue of releases so far, Marcus Santoro has already shown that he is a versatile producer capable of creating excellent tracks in a different variety of styles. His latest remix demonstrates this diversity perfectly with the first half being more old school progressive, having a vibe very similar to pre SHM Axwell, and then transitioning to the euphoric, festival sound that he does so well for the second drop. The mainstream sound is definitely there, but he manages to avoid falling into the trap of generic house with tracks like this. How he has not blown up outside of Australia is a mystery to me.

Along with my homeboy Marcus Santoro, Adam McCoy, producing under the name Swanson, is one of the top up and coming producers out of Australia. He made this a while back for a remix contest that he ended up winning popular vote in and is now giving it away for free. His rendition of Hey Ocean’s “Big Blue Wave” is not only atmospheric but also, as much as one can be these days in progressive, unique.
