“I wrote ‘Birthday Sadness’ with Kaity Rae in our first session since lockdown. The track originally started off pretty upbeat with completely different production, but we couldn’t seem to get anything down. The more we spoke about how this year has made having a birthday even more scary because it’s like we’ve had the entire year taken from us with nothing to show for it, the more the lyrics poured out. Kaity re-did the production and the rest came together. We’re constantly led to believe that time is running out and that everything has to be figured out so young. It’s an impossible ideal. Every year (especially one like this) birthdays make you face everything that has or hasn’t changed, good or bad. I miss the years of not being able to sleep because I was so excited for my birthday, because the only thing that mattered was the party, presents and cake.” – BETSIE GØLD

“The writing/recording of this song was the most I have ever consciously pushed myself out of my comfort zone… it can sometimes be easy to find yourself a little boxed in when you’re writing and recording/mixing every part of a track, but this was my most determined attempt to break away from the habits I’d formed. The whole thing took a couple of months to complete, but the finished track is something I’m really proud of and can hopefully show some diversity in my songwriting! The vocal part really drives the song in my opinion…this is also the first time an outro has been my favourite aspect of a song I’ve written, I love that ending vocal hook.” – Conal Kelly

About Kacey Fifield
Kacey Fifield is an award-winning 15-year-old singer/songwriter from Los Angeles who has been releasing original music since she was 10! This includes “Hear Me Out”, a song about youth empowerment and kindness, whose video was selected and awarded by multiple festivals, including indie festival “Dances with Films” in Hollywood. Kacey participates regularly in humanitarian issues. She is a part of the Youth Leadership Council for Animal Farm Sanctuary and leads a Children’s Hospital Aid Club affiliated with St Jude’s Hospital. Kacey is enrolled in honors and AP classes at her high school and excels in all the subjects. She plays piano and guitar, but ultimately singing is her greatest passion. An atypical love song, “When I’m With You” emphasizes the beautiful and healthy parts of a relationship, focusing on unconditional love between two people and leaning on one another for warmth and comfort. “I started writing this track by using some guitar plucks and experimenting with a soundscape. I wanted to create an ambient moment, then transition into more of a rhythmic beat.
