Chill, Indie | Prelow – For The Team
Posted by admin on January 22, 2014
After a semi-intelligent child turned me on to their music a few weeks back, I have been absolutely hooked on Prelow. The mysterious band has only one public track on their SoundCloud, but the heavily-produced indie tune “For The Team” has me begging to hear more.
Lead vocalist, Jesse Aicher, whispers sweet nothings in to your ear as the song progresses. His soft, melodic voice complementing the hazy electronic instrumental to make a sound unlike much of what I have heard coming out of the indie genre.
The duo, although seemingly new to the scene, clearly has a natural cohesion, and a knack for making intriguing music. I encourage you all to check out Prelow’s “For The Team” and stay tuned for more from the NYC-based group.
Indie, Progressive House | NONONO – Pumpin Blood (The Chainsmokers Remix)
Posted by Mel on January 20, 2014
The Swedish group NONONO (pronounced no-no-no..) very recently (though in all honesty it’s almost been a week) had their hit song “Pumpin Blood” remixed by The Chainsmokers and quite frankly, it’s not bad! It’s clearly not their best work and it actually kind of sucks but once you get passed all that it’s quite good! The track starts with a “really emotional piano intro that pulls you in”, according to them, and then climaxes at a good, yet oddly familiar drop that is probably a little too similar to their “Dreaming” remix. It then goes on to feature an almost trap like breakdown which certainly helps it stand out amongst their vast catalog of releases. This is likely not their best work but it’s still good song. We can’t expect them to hit a home run with every release because they just don’t have the talent to do so.
They have sold out big time and have their first original song “#Selfie” coming out on producing genius Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak Records on January 28th so get ready for that. It should be adequate.

Cover, Indie, Pop | Timeflies Tuesday – Say Something

With what I’m expecting to be a banger of a single coming next week, Timeflies deliver yet another slow jam. This week’s installment, a cover of A Great Big World’s, “Say Something”. Like the New York made indie pop/rock duo, A Great Big World, Cal and Rez tackle this mellow piano ballad, but as always, they add an extra pinch of seasoning. Enjoy this one before they turn up next week with their brand new single, “All The Way”.

Meet Salt Ashes, the latest singer to emerge from the UK, with her debut single “Somebody,” a synth-pop record with nu-disco vibes that’s going to make you want to dance. Supported by a dark and sexy music video, fitting for Wednesday hump-day, not only can she sing, but Miss Ashes is hot! If you’re looking for refreshing music, “Somebody” is that track for you, I’ve personally had it on repeat all morning. It’s about time nu-disco makes a comeback and goes mainstream again like Madonna in the 80’s! This is a must listen, and a must download!

The second track off the forthcoming album Easy Yoke EP, “Easy Yoke” by Favela. makes for a pretty easy listening song with great lyrics and a feel that’s somewhat addictive, making you want to press replay when it’s over. The track is simple – yet simply irresistible. Definitely gonna be waiting for the drop of this EP.
Indie, Pop | The Golden Pony Feat. Suntalk – Bonfire

A few weeks back I introduced The Golden Pony’s remix of Peaches “F*ck the Pain Away,” and today the afro boy duo is back with an original “Bonfire,” an indie nu-disco pop record with soul, which I think they get from their fros, featuring vocals from Suntalk an indie nu-disco pop record with soul, which I think they get from their fros. The story behind this track is pretty interesting, and I’ll let them tell it:
“Bonfire” was written after reading this proverb called “The Zen of Work”. It goes “When you do something, you should burn yourself up completely, like a good bonfire, leaving no trace of your self”. For some reason it reminded us of our favorite musicians who died young like Jimi, Janis, Otis, Jim Morrison, and Kurt.

Alternative, Chill, Indie | Jackson Breit – Other Side Of The World

Following Jackson Breit’s take on Forgot About Dre a few weeks ago, he takes us into the holidays with a slow love song he wrote when his girlfriend went abroad. Although this is different than most of his past releases, this one still carries his signature production and style. As usual, Jackson gives away a Free DL!
