Albums, Electro, Pop, RnB | Quincy Kwalae & J.T. Roach – Qollab [Free EP]

Posted by on October 1, 2012

Often times artists will blend genres and fail miserably.  The spike in the popularity of EDM has left hip-hop, pop, and r&b artists with the daunting question of “how to incorporate these new sounds into their music”.  Midwest natives, Quincy Kwalae (producer) & J.T. Roach (vocals) crossed paths after graduating college and instantly felt chemistry in their music.  While J.T’s background runs deep as an acoustic artist with roots in R&B & Soul, Quincy’s production is native to both hip-hop and EDM instruments.  Their debut Qollab EP, Piñata After Party encompasses an infusion the duo’s sounds, creating a compelling new genre of their own.

“The whole project sounds like a wild blend of Trey Songz, Skrillex, The Weeknd & Xaphoon Jones…yet, sounds like none of them at all. Maybe we made a new genre….R&BEDM?” – Q

Although this is just the beginning for these two aspiring artists, they have both been at it for quite some time, which is evident in their music.  Although it’s only four new tracks, you’ll hear something new in each one.  Slap on some pine tar and take a swing at this musical Piñata, you won’t be disappointed with what you find inside.

Abstract Hip-Hop, RnB, Videos | Andrea – Another

Posted by on September 26, 2012

NSFW

Andrea turned heads about 2 months ago with a remix of “Angels” by The xx. Today he serenades us with an Abstract Hip-Hop/R&B blend using vocal samples from Justin Timberlake. Forget Barry White, the video really puts this songs main purpose into light. Justin Timberlake’s voice actually sounds really good in the lower tones it is put into. This track is truly beautiful, it is literally sex.

Indie, Pop, RnB | Cris Cab – Paradise (On Earth)

Posted by on September 19, 2012

Cris Cab’s sound has evolved so much. When I first heard him doing covers on youtube, I was impressed by his voice. Now, I’m impressed by his sound. His intonation, tone, and control are all incredible and his sound is becoming much more mainstream(in a good way). When I heard this song, I immediately knew it was Cris, maybe because I know his music so well, or maybe because he has associated such a unique sound with his name. The chorus does get a little repetitive, but Cris does a good job changing it up slightly each time. “Paradise,” is the first leak off Cris’ upcoming EP, Rise. The production was done by Malay (Frank Ocean’s Channel Orange), which explains why it’s so good.

DO SOMETHING

Hip-Hop, RnB, Videos | Frank Ocean – Pyramids (Video)

Posted by on September 16, 2012

frank ocean [pyramids] from christopher francis ocean on Vimeo.

Honestly there’s not much I can say about this video. Frank Ocean’s videos are always weird as hell and they make me cry out of confusion and I never understand what they’re about and I always feel like I’m missing something. I’m rambling. Well, I’ll let you try and interpret this ambiguous, yet wonderfully talented artist’s latest visual on your own. I mean, it’s on Vimeo, and it’s 8 minutes long. Good luck.

Pop, RnB | Somo- My Life (Mixtape)

Posted by on September 11, 2012

Just a few weeks ago, I travelled to Allen, Texas to get in the studio with Joseph Somo and Cody Tarpley. Somo and team allowed us to get an early preview of “My Life” in its final stages. We knew from the onset that this project would be something special. I’ve said it before and I’m going to say it again: This is easily one of the strongest debut mixtapes I’ve ever listened to from an up-and-coming artist in all my blog years. There are many that come close, but this one takes the cake. It should be apparent by now that Joseph Somo is the real deal. Download the mixtape below, it’ll be the best decision that you make all week.

Hip-Hop, RnB | For All Mankind – Fiberglass Mic

Posted by on June 30, 2012

FAM (For All Mankind) is a Hip-Hop/R&B group from the DC area. The group consists of the two MCs, Yago and Danny O along side producer Pete Ferrini. Forming FAM while attending St. Mary’s College, the trio pushes for a unique sound, blending together Hip-Hop and R&B. This newest track of theirs has really got me grooving. I love the Jazzy bass that takes you for a walk while Yago and Danny O run some smooth verses. Blending the old with the new, I feel FAM truly hit a unique sound. The trio plans on dropping an unnamed 10 track project by the end of the Summer.
