Freestyle | Dunson – Lord Knows Freestyle
Posted by Jess on January 5, 2012

Kenton Dunson just announced that he is dropping his first name from his stagename to be just Dunson. Along with it, he dropped a sick freestyle over Drake’s “Lord Knows”. You can definitely tell that Dunson is hungry to break out in the scene by this track. In it, he spits about his road as an artist and his goals for the future. His first single off his upcoming project is due out very soon. The track is produced by the Grammy-nominated production team, Phatboi Entertainment, and from what I heard, it may be his biggest hit yet. Stay updated on future releases from Dunson and help him regain his fans by liking his new fan page on Facebook.
“As matters progress, I have made the creative decision to continue my artistic journey under the name Dunson. This simply means that I will be dropping Kenton from the artist name. While it doesn’t change very much, we believe it represents a more defined character while allowing for a greater overall reach and impact. At this stage, I find it important to take the necessary steps to touch as many people as possible with what I offer as an artist. This allows me to accomplish that with more precision and less confusion.” – Dunson

Freestyle, Hip-Hop, Videos | Timeflies Tuesday: 2012
Posted by Grubeats on January 4, 2012
2011 was truly an extraordinary year for Timeflies. It’s amazing to watch artists’ growth over such a short period of time and even more impressive to see the fans support explode with so much passion. In lieu of the malicious Mayans forecasting the world’s end, @WhatupCal & @RobResnick sample Jason Derulo & Nicki Minaj’s track, “2012 (It Ain’t The End)”, adding their own personal stroke of genius. If by some chance the Mayans predictions of the world ending on December 21st of 2012 hold true, Timeflies is guaranteed to go out with a bang. If the world doesn’t end, they’re still going to have one hell of a year and I’m excited to see just how far they can take this dream.
They have teased us with the streaming audio for this right now, but once they hit 25,000 followers on @Timeflies they promised to drop us the mp3. GO FOLLOW!

Freestyle, Hip-Hop, Videos | Timeflies Tuesday: Christmas

Everyone knew this was coming. Posting 32,000+ Facebook fans and nearly 20,000 Twitter followers to close out the year, Timeflies seems to have everyone from Tufts to the homies in Whooville to grandma’s at the bingo hall rocking out to this fresh new track. What can’t they do?
Freestyle, Hip-Hop, Rap | Mystikal, Roscoe Dash, Wale, XV, Ashanti, Busta

If you’re still trying to decipher the words that came out of young Khaliyl’s mouth, stop. The kid’s only two. I’m sure if he knew how to talk, he would be rolling the ABC’s of rap off his little British tongue. He’s definitely got the body language of rap down and he bobs with the beat. If Tinie Tempah doesn’t sign this kid, Jay-Z better.
In other news, “DANGERRRRR, WATCH YO’SELF,” Mystikal is back and he brought his friend vengeance . Is it just me or is this close to vintage? Just when I thought he had packed his bags, he inks a new deal with Cash Money and debuts this brand new record. Thank you Weezy?

The fifth track off Roscoe Dash’s debut EP, “J.U.I.C.E.” which is set for a a December 20th release. Roscoe & Wale saw unparalleled success with their collab on “No Hands” in which they were both featured on Waka Flocka’s hit track, so once again they link up to deliver an early morning club hit.The second Wale track is a freestyle he did with fellow DMV artist, Black Cobain, who he recently revealed in an interview was one of his favorite up and coming artists. Personally I’ve thought Tyga’s “Rack City” was overhyped and I never really saw the appeal, but clearly the masses think otherwise.

After giving us a new track just a few days ago, Vizzy cuts the lock on another one, this time produced by The Awesome Sound. XV was in the studio with Drama Beats earlier this week and although this track isn’t produced by Drama himself, he’s dedicating it to his #youngandreckless Squarians.

The overwhelming realization that Mystikal still had it nearly knocked me unconscious and when I heard Ashanti was back as well, I almost broke out my Discman and $10 Sony headphones to bring me back to the good-ole-days. Sadly I don’t think we’ll ever hear the Ashanti we grew accustomed to hearing back in the late 90′s and early 00′s, but for a comeback, this isn’t terrible. Her larynx appears to still be in tact and Busta picks up the slack to make this a decent track. Pardon the quality, I’ll share the CDQ once I find it if you’d like.
Freestyle, Hip-Hop | Eye Candy Spittin’ Ear Candy?

It’s not everyday you’ll find a smokeshow spitting bars faster than that dude from your high school who thinks he’s a rapper. I’ll be honest, Bailee Moore, may need some work behind the mic, but when you’re as smoke as she is, it’s hard to fail. The Cleveland chick claims this to be her first rap ever and if that’s the case, she may have potential. So what are my FNT faithfuls thinking about this chick? Is she the next Chanel aka CC (Fantasy Factory’s Rapping Receptionist) — drop a few freestyles then get picked up by Maxim? Or does she actually have musical talent?

Freestyle, Hip-Hop, Videos | Logic – Live On The Air [Video]

One of the fan favorites off Logic’s recent mixtape, Young Sinatra, here is the live footage of the Maryland MC killing it live on the air at WMUC 88.1 FM, University of Maryland. This is by far one of the rawest tracks off the tape as Logic puts on a clinic for any artist wondering how to lyrically annihilate a beat. As the beat loops, Logic’s confidence builds, giving hip-hop heads a breath of fresh air. If you haven’t yet, be sure to download the full project, Young Sinatra, below.

Freestyle, Hip-Hop | YONAS – Time Is Now (’09 Freestyle)
Posted by Grubeats on November 29, 2011
YONAS, YONAS, YONAS, stop killin’ em! “Y/O” recently came across this old freestyle from back in 2009 that he decided to release to the fans. Some artists are born with a gift, YONAS is one of those artists. With an ability to compose meaningful music, YONAS’ resume is longer than most of you probably expect. While his name is just beginning to really catch wind, his music stretches back over the last 3 or 4 years…and it’s all good.
“Now n***** gettin’ signed and they ain’t got a buzz, if it got a buzz they don’t do it for the love, if they do it for the love it won’t fit up in the club, this is where the whole game got f’d up, the psychology is to get the dollar to jump, but every dollar we get we give out honesty up” – YONAS
