Alternative, Hip-Hop, Pop | Mikey Mike – Cut My Hair [Video]

Posted by on March 31, 2015

You’re probably not familiar with Mikey Mike, however, the small town Maryland native turned LA city kid has already earned himself a credit producing on Rihanna’s album as well as other notable names. As he begins the journey in to his own solo work, Mikey has already made some promising first steps.

“Cut My Hair” is simple yet infectious and shows the goofy, eccentric side of Mikey’s character. However, Mikey doesn’t want it to be misinterpreted as trivial: “It’s simple and playful, but still rooted in something very real. I played it for this girl and she was like ‘aw neat! a song about getting stoned and getting a haircut’ and I was like ‘no the songs about being touched, it’s about love, woman!”

When asked about his music as a whole he replied, “I like to think my songs are kind of like having sex with a high-end escort. There’s not a lot of bullshit, small talk, or fondling, we just get right to it. But, the shit is still pretty good, ya know?”

Mikey is throwing warehouse parties throughout Los Angeles and if you’re interested in going check out the flyer below and shoot him an email. Or if you want to just talk with Mikey, shoot him an email!

Alternative, Chill, Indie | William Bolton – Far Away

Addicting; that is just one of the many thoughts I have in regards to the latest offering from the next big thing, William Bolton. Unique; an adjective that truly encompasses what his sound is. Bolton, not to be confused with everyone’s favorite baby making music, Michael Bolton, brings old school to the forefront and clashes it with synths, keys and riffs that transcend any specific genre or period in time. Repeat; what this song will be on for quite some time in my car. Enjoy the free download via William’s SoundCloud and be sure to peep his previous single, which also happens to be addicting ‘Dream At Night‘.

Alternative, Indie, RnB | LAUV – The Other

‘You have the voice of an angel’ is what I said when I first heard LAUV; No, I am not John C. Reilly and I am not talking about Will Ferrell in Step Brothers. Ok, thats not even what I said, but, ‘Holy shit, I didn’t know you could sing!’ was what I said when LAUV gave me a sneak peak of his debut single a few days prior to its release. Formally known to those in the industry for his EDM producing skills  under a different stage name, LAUV is coming out of the gates swinging with his debut single ‘The Other‘.

With a voice you’d expect to be in the next big boy band, ‘The Other‘ consumes you from the first few notes all the way through to the last. There was no doubts about his production skills but he has absolutely outdone himself putting his writing skills on display. LAUV is going to be huge, very huge.

Alternative, Chill, Indie, Pop | William Bolton – Dream At Night (ft Dillon Ashton)

The only thing better than good vibes is music that can uproot any moment and inject  great it with vibes. William Bolton, formerly known as Times New Roman, accomplishes that time and time again. His unique style and versatile voice always comes through with classic records and Dream At Night is no exception to that. The production is extremely laid back and really lets ‘Billy B’s’ voice shine as he glides you through a night dreaming of the most popular spot on the left coast, California.

Originally discovered by FNT, Academy has made huge strides since their debut back in October of 2013. The duo has been well overdue for new tunes as it’s been almost a year since their freshman EP ‘Moving Methods‘ was released. Full of funky bass, horns and catchy guitar riffs by producer Matt Osenton, not to mention some fresh turntable scratching provided by DJ Smiles, this new single shows Evan and John’s versatility and progression as artists. Hold Me Down is the first single off their sophomore project set to drop later this Spring and if this is any indication, it appears your summer beach playlist will be full of Academy. Be sure to throw the guys a follow on Twitter (@Academy401) and Like their page on Facebook!

It’s been a minute since we have heard from the rapidly growing duo Academy. Unlike most, Academy had yet to release an official set of visuals despite having great success with their Moving Methods EP which dropped last June. That changed yesterday as the LA transplants connected with up and coming director Elemen† and dropped visuals for their most recent single We Ain’t Never. Head over to their SoundCloud to grab the free download and be sure to stay up to date with Academy by giving them a follow on Twitter (@Academy401).

Coleman Hell is a singer/songwriter that I introduced you guys to a few weeks back with his record “Heat Of The Night” which I had on repeat since. This week Mr. Hell dropped his EP titled Vena, and his latest “Red Rover” featuring La+ch was the only unreleased track off the EP. With mellow vibes, and retro feels, Coleman is on to something, and I’m excited to hear his follow up work. If you’re a fan of Passion Pit, or Chromeo, this is a must listen, and support by purchasing the EP today!
