Hip-Hop | Asher Roth – Pop Radio x Pearly Gates
Posted by admin on June 24, 2013
Asher Roth is back to offer up some new knowledge, first for his original single “Pop Radio”, followed by a freestyle over Mobb Deep’s legendary “Pearly Gates”. The former of the two is classic Asher, packed with assonance and witty rhymes that lighten up the more serious message within the song.
In “Pearly Gates”, Roth discusses his struggles within the industry thus far.
“Rick Ross can be a cop, Drake ‘started from the bottom’? No offense, I don’t wanna start a problem but come on, all I ever did was tell you I was a champ at beer pong.”
There is no doubt that Asher has to battle everyday with the image that his hit college music shows him in, however, as soon as people start opening their ears to how much substance is really behind each line, it will only be a matter of time before Ash takes off.
Be sure to download Asher’s new mixtape The Greenhouse Effect Vol. 2, out tomorrow!
Hip-Hop, Rap, RnB, Videos | Jeedy – Fine China (Remix)
Posted by admin on June 17, 2013
A new face to Fresh New Tracks, Jeedy, is a soulful emcee with poise and passion. The young cat has been working tirelessly since graduating college to perfect his craft and take his music to the next level. To hold his fans over until the release of his full mixtape, Jeedy decided to unleash a quick verse over Chris Brown’s “Fine China” instrumental. The song, as short as it is, does what it needs to do: show the world the talent which Jeedy possesses. Virginia-raised, Jeedy has made it his personal goal to put V-A on the map and being a resident myself, I couldn’t be happier.
Enjoy this tid-bit of music and stay tuned for plenty more coming very soon!
Hip-Hop, Rap, Videos | Marc Goone – THIS IS MY $ONG 4 RADIO
Posted by admin on June 16, 2013
I’m not sure what’s more comical, Marc Goone satirizing the entire music industry in a song or the listeners who actually believe that he is attempting to get this song heard on the radio. The sad truth of hip-hop music is that it can be virtually (w)rapped up inside this four minute song, minus of course the few outliers.
One of those outliers being none other than Marc Goone himself. Goone defies virtually every stereotype there is about rap music all while managing to make his music intriguing and enjoyable. Marc recently released his free album I Am Not A Lobster, OK which can be downloaded here.
Now, I advise you all to take a moment to listen to Yung Marc Goone’s “$ONG 4 RADIO” before you go out to ride around and ‘get it’.
Chill, Hip-Hop, Videos | Radical Something – Santa Barbara (Video)
Posted by admin on June 12, 2013
Released last year during the Summer of Rad, “Santa Barbara” was the trio, Radical Something’s, tribute to the aforementioned California beach-town and the feel-good vibes it brings. The band is going on a small summer tour, but the bulk of these coming hot months will be dedicated to bringing you all the best music you could ask for. Having seen them in concert myself I can vouch that it is a show you won’t want to miss. So if you do see your local venue on this list of tour stops, don’t hesitate to snatch up some tickets!
I have my last final exam tomorrow and I can guarantee I’ll be bumping this all the way home from school, you should too!.
Electro, Electronic | The Knocks (ft. St Lucia) – Modern Hearts [Dave Edwards Remix]
Posted by admin on June 12, 2013
Although this song unfortunately missed the deadline for our epic summer playlist, it is absolutely deserving of some recognition! Known for his epic remixes, Dave Edwards takes to The Knocks and St. Lucia’s most recent single in a successful attempt to keep up his reputation.
Dave experimented with numerous different chord progressions and sounds in this track and managed to avoid any sort of monotony in the production. Add vocals in to the mix and you’ve really got yourself a hit. The remix has already gotten some pretty significant recognition and so if you enjoy it enough, be sure to heart it up on Hype Machine!
Grab the free download and stay in tune for more Dave Edwards music, hopefully, very soon!
Hip-Hop, Rap, Videos | Sam Lachow – King Lear
Posted by admin on June 10, 2013
Sam Lachow has been on my radar for quite some time now. The young man has proved himself time and time again with his soulful sound and self-aware rapping. However, “King Lear” is different. Sam goes a few steps deeper with his introspection and really digs in to his life and career as a rapper thus far. Perhaps it was the self-produced instrumental, or the self-directed and edited video? Either way, this song is more personal than much of Sam’s music, a trait that I endlessly respect and enjoy.
Take a gander at “King Lear” above, and be sure to tweet out #kinglear for a chance to win some cool prizes from the young Seattle emcee.
