Hip-Hop, Rap | Mike Melinoe – Hold My Dust
Posted by admin on September 12, 2014

Hailing from Detroit is Mike Melinoe, an emcee and part of the rap conglomerate known as Organic Geniuses. In anticipation of his new project, PropeR Element$, Melinoe has dropped off a captivating single titled, “Hold My Dust”.
His voice is raspy, yet intoxicating. His lyricism is dark, yet playful. The instrumental is old-school, yet contemporary and unique.
Nothing about “Hold My Dust” is ordinary, and that shows. While only 22, Melinoe strikes me as a young emcee to really make some moves this coming year.
Tune back in for PropeR Element$, and enjoy some hip-hop for your weekend.
Hip-Hop, Mixtapes, Rap | Bobby Capri – Lemonade (Mixtape)
Posted by admin on September 12, 2014
Fueling my addiction for Virginia-based rap music is the new comer Bobby Capri. Although this project wasn’t even supposed to come out, I’m sure glad it did. There is an essence of old-school paired with contemporary rhyming to make for a very enjoyable project.
Virginia’s music scene is bubbling to say the least, so it will be exciting to see where Capri ends up within it all.
Bass, Electro, Mainstream Remix | Dawin – Just Girly Things (Kiely Rich Remix)
Posted by admin on September 10, 2014

Kiely Rich has an ear for exciting, original music. With this ear, he’s taken to Dawin’s poppy record, “Just Girly Things”. he completely flips it on it’s head, making it bubbly, synth-heavy and unique all the same. The progressive EDM producer from Michigan has been making music for quite some time now, and it’s only momentarily until his chance to truly shine hits him.
With Rich you can never know what to expect next, so keep in the loop by following him on SoundCloud here.
Hip-Hop, Rap | Pell – Runaway (Video)
Posted by admin on September 1, 2014
After dropping his incredibly cohesive, Floating While Dreaming album earlier this year, Pell added on some visuals for the somber single, “Runaway”. The video, albeit simple, adds a level to Pell’s already vivid storyline. The blues and blacks of the video compliment Pell’s melodic voice, and take you through his turmoil-filled love life.
Things are just starting to hear up for this young emcee, so be on the lookout for more music and videos, very soon.
Bass, Chill | Ace Shocka – WAV (EP)
Posted by admin on August 28, 2014

There is very little music that I have the ability to listen to while I write or do other creative work. That being said, here I sit writing this post while being whisked away to a deserted island accompanied by the stylings of Ace Shocka. The NYU student and music producer has put together a three-track EP that sounds akin to a brilliant future-wave spin on Clams Casino.
The EP could fit perfectly on a label like Soulection, and perhaps even topped by some vocals from the likes of Waldo, GoldLink, or Vic Mensa.
WAV is an exciting start for this young gun, and it’ll be exciting where he takes it from here.
Chill, Electro, Hip-Hop | The Fugees – Rumble In The Jungle (Beshken Remix)
Posted by admin on August 26, 2014

When it comes to re-working classic rap music, one must treat the task with incredible caution. After all those were the days when Busta Rhymes was making non-Toyota-minivan songs. This past week, Beshken took to SoundCloud to drop his rework of Fugees’ classic “Rumble In The Jungle”.
The song gets a full 360 flip, while still retaining its New York roots from Busta and West Coast vibes of A Tribe Called Quest.
Hopefully, around the bend we’ll be able to hear some new originals from the Santa Monica native. For now, enjoy.
Albums | Sizzy Rocket – Morrissey
Posted by admin on August 22, 2014
In are day and age where it seems like pop stars are as easily interchangeable as bed sheets, it’s a rare occurrence to find an artist with poise, talent, and originality all wrapped in to one. Sizzy Rocket is a straight shooter, her writing ability evidencing that.
TV out the window, late night like a talk show, rich cunt at The Standard.
However, despite the brash and borderline-crude lyrics, Sizzy manages to seamlessly transition from her dark rapping abilities to a bubbly-sounding rendition of The Smith’s on the chorus. Don’t let the sound fool you, as the case with “Morrissey”, as well as previous release, “GIRLS“, the lines are oozing with playful sarcasm that begs for a second listen.
Enjoy the genre-bending song, and get introduced to pop music’s next rule breaker.
