Jersey Club | Rusty Hook – Get So Fly
Posted by mimada on April 6, 2014
As soon as you hear that iconic riff, you’ll already know what it is – but lemme just tell you to wait a second because this is, quite frankly, even better. As soon as I pressed play on Bordeaux-producer, Rusty Hook’s Baby Bash remix, “Get So Fly,” I straight up got the chills! Imagine the original, except without the cheesy lyrics, with a Jersey Club twist and full of unexpected breaks and pauses that leave you just dying to hear more. In the short amount of time this track has been live via Cosmonostro and Marmorean Records, it has already ran dry of free downloads, but you can still take 4 minutes and 20 seconds to get absolutely lifted, shifted, and higher than the ceiling (you know the rest).

Bass, Deep House | NVOY – Don’t Ever
Posted by mimada on March 30, 2014
With the arrival of springtime and summer a moment away on the horizon, it seemed inevitable that the UK house duo NVOY would provide us with something to cater to those vibes. While their previous releases have all been deep, club-appropriate bangers, this track is a much airier one that I envision myself hearing at some chic, rooftop, poolside day party in the upcoming months, full of trendy socialites with good taste in music and bottomless Aperol Spritz. But I mean, even if I still don’t get an invite to the party, I’m confident in the growing hype of NVOY, this track will still be spinning. Hold your breath for their first official release here soon!

Abstract Hip-Hop, Trap | Love Me X The ClubCasa Chamber Orchestra (SuGar Edition)
Posted by mimada on March 19, 2014
Alright so I’ve got 17 minutes on my self-timer before my computer goes into lockdown and I’m forced to start writing my 10-page midterm essay, so I gotta make this brief. Just moments earlier I was tipped off about this French producer SuGar and upon listening just to his most recent upload, I was compelled to expose this hidden gem. This track is a bit of a remix inception so ima break it down for you here. It all started with Lil Wayne’s “Love Me” feat. Drake & Future, which was then adapted (almost the point of being unrecognizable!) by sly5thave, a Brooklyn jazz musician and producer (who has some incredible other jazz covers worth checking out), which also features The ClubCasa, a Brooklyn-based music collective. Then finally, SuGar got ahold of that, spun a little trap on that ish and sprinkled it with some Bun B “Draped Up” rhymes and voilà! You’ve got this dirty south, brassy trap joint that’s simply one of a kind. And I’ve got another 5 minutes left on my timer, just enough to hit replay. Enjoy ~
Trap | RL Grime & What So Not – Tell Me
Posted by mimada on March 7, 2014
All the What So Not collaborations we’ve seen hinted at across social media the past couple weeks following the Aussie festival season and prefacing the American one are *finally* coming to light. But even before the release of this RL Grime and WSN love child, it was pretty obvious that this would be a huge track, and it certainly doesn’t disappoint. Remember how that “Jaguar” track made you feel a very special type of way? Well this one is like that, but times 10. Each drop gets bigger and bigger throughout the song, so much so that I’m embarrassed to even be listening to this off my laptop as these speakers can hardly do it justice. Hopefully you can do better – like, this much better.

Chill, Jersey Club | Jailo & Vices – Loving You (Long Time)
Posted by mimada on February 17, 2014
Today being the first day I’ve seen sunshine in Sweden in about 2 months mixed with all these leftover Valentine’s Day tracks certainly has me still feelin’ some type of way this morning. And what better than a Mariah Carey Jersey Club track to cater to those feelings! “Loving You (Long Time),” a collab from the Dutch Jailo and Florida’s own Vices, is perfect for easy listening to get the blood moving and your toes tapping. Check it out and be sure to keep your eye on these producers in the months to come.
Chill | PromNite & Penthouse Penthouse – afterthot
Posted by mimada on February 17, 2014
PN & PP may have uploaded this free track in honor of Valentine’s Day but I’m gonna cut to the chase and let you know 4 months in advanced, this is already a carefree summer anthem. That should come as no surprise though as we can always count on Team Supreme’s Penthouse Penthouse to instill those vibes of being seaside when the sun is setting. Ahhhh.
If you haven’t already, be sure to cop PromNite’s latest album, Love Songs For What? featuring more from Penthouse Penthouse, Mike Gao and Sweater Beats. Available for a whopping $1 purchase via Bandcamp here.
Deep House, Melbourne Bounce | Happy Endings – Shy Guy
Posted by mimada on February 17, 2014
Throughout my time studying and traveling here in Europe, I’ve somehow managed to meet heaps of Aussies everywhere I go. I’ll admit I love their company so I don’t mind but at times it makes me wonder if they’re in the works of some secret, global takeover of sorts…. Anyways, today’s first track, “Shy Guy,” was brought to my attention by word of mouth from a Sydney native whom I encountered in my hostel in Berlin last week. I was pleasantly surprised to give it a listen later on and discover that it was in fact worth a second, third, and fourth listen after that. Happy Endings, although lacking almost any kind of background information, seems to be a deep house-producing duo led by Melbourne Bounce star Fat Blake. There’s something unique about this track compared to a lot of other songs from this genre that I’ve been listening to that I can’t quite put my finger on, but that makes me all the more excited to see what they come out with next.
