Albums, Electro, Trap | Banks – This Is What It Feels Like (Akouo Rework)
Posted by mimada on September 18, 2013
When getting acquainted with a new artist, I like to pay extra attention to any remixes they might’ve done, especially of songs I’m familiar with. Remixes give an insight to an artist’s style, as well as their creative limits and potential. So I was very drawn in first to find that Tasmanian producer Akouo’s (pronounced “ah-koo-oh “) selection of remixes made up of many of my personal favorites and second, that they were all super badass. I’ve had this Banks track on repeat for the past 72 hours and Akouo’s remix is exactly what I needed to change it up. It draws from the subtle hints of darkness in the ridiculously sexy original track and turns it out in a trippy, trap rework. And Akouo keeps you hanging on as the song develops more and more with each minute. It’s hot, and I’m hooked.

House, Mix | Klingande – Jubel & Musique Chic Mixtape
Posted by mimada on September 16, 2013
It’s a very rare thing to experience an artist live for the first time and immediately and unexpectedly fall in love with them right then and there. When I got the chance to see the French duo Klingande, I went in with an open mind and ended up being totally mesmerized during the entire hour and a half long set. How these guys have gone under my radar for so long, I’m not sure, so I’m thrilled to be sharing them now. Their live set was by far one of the most energetic I’ve seen yet this year. Imagine: Big Gigantic meets Disclosure, with a twist of that upbeat nu-disco from the likes of Dimitri From Paris. It was the perfect medley of funky jams, house, and indie electronic, which sounds like a crazy combination of everything but I promise, these guys make it work. And you better believe there was a live sax player rockin’ out up there, too.
Their first track I’m sharing, titled “Jubel,” seems to be one of their most popular tracks around these parts. It’s a got a great, vivacious melody, delicate vocals and a super groovy appearance by the sax.
This second one is a summer mixtape they produced for the French music blog, Musique Chic, which gives a much better feel for what their live set was like. I’ve had this one of repeat for days now and would encourage you to take advantage of this free download as well.
Looks like these Frenchmen have yet to make their way to the states, so for now, keep posted on their social media for upcoming releases. Fantastique ^_^

Chill | Penthouse Penthouse – what u sippin on
Posted by mimada on September 10, 2013
It’s sad to think that time of year has come for that unfortunate bunch of us up north when warm weather and sunshine gives us it’s final kiss goodbye until next spring. Luckily we have people like Penthouse Penthouse to keep summertime vibes alive no matter what it’s like outside. “what u sippin on” is a perfect, three-minute long vacation to your favorite beach, holdin’ your boo thang in one hand and a mai tai in the other. So close your eyes and hear the transformation of Andre 3000’s “Prototype” into Penthouse Penthouse’s smoooth sunset ballad. Tranquilo.

Electronic, Videos | MØ x Diplo – XXX 88
Posted by mimada on September 10, 2013
While certain big-name female celebrities continue to slowly chip away at the world’s image of a role model woman (not pointing any fingers this time), 2013 has fortunately reeled some incredibly talented female acts into the spotlight who go above and beyond to compensate for the wreckage. See: Banks, Jessie Ware, Charli XCX, Lorde, Aluna Francis, just to name a few. And adding to the list I present to you my latest female vocalist of interest, Danish electro-pop songstress MØ (pronounced “moo”). Take one part Scandinavian sweetheart, one part sultry temptress, top it off with a fat gold chain and a ponytail and you’ll get this bonafide badass singer. Check out the video premier of her latest track titled “XXX 88,” produced by the one and only Diplo and you’ll get a feel for what I mean. And if you still want mo’ MØ, keep an eye out for her EP and album release later this season.

Exclusive | Lorde – Royals (Wild Boyz! Remix)
Posted by mimada on September 4, 2013
If you could be any type of person out there in the world today, I think you’d most want to be one of Lorde’s friends as described in her song, “Royals.” Why is that? Well, if you haven’t listened to the original song enough times to make you lose your mind (which you should, because it’s truly stunning), then you might have missed the part where Lorde turns the spotlight to the average, relatively tame, yet still considerably happy teenager in contrast to, oh you know, everyone else out there blowin’ money fast. And I was so excited to hear this remix from the up and coming producers, Wild Boyz!, because it relays that same message. These boyz draw you in right from the start and as the track escalades, nuances of 80’s style synths take you away. Comparable to a modern-day Breakfast Club theme, fit for our electronic age, if you will.
Download. Press play. Live that fantasy.

Electronic | Amerie – Gotta Work (Phazz Remix)
Posted by mimada on September 4, 2013
Unlike most girls, I LOVE surprises. And boy did this Amerie remix from French producer Phazz knock me off my feet (or swivel chair, whatever). It starts off pretty trill and then about a minute in… well, I don’t wanna spoil the treat. All I can say is you better not pass on this soulful free download. Browsing through some of Phazz’s older tracks you might find that not only are they all free as well but they’re actually all very dope. In fact, the name should ring a bell if you’ve been on top of your music blogging game. So check it ~
