Albums, Electronic | Hot Sugar – Made Man EP
Posted by mimada on October 3, 2013
These past few weeks have been pretty exciting as far as music is concerned, literally one great release after another: Halcyon Days Deluxe, Kiss Land, 20/20 Part 2, Nothing Was The Same, Pure Heroine, shit I hardly get to finish one album before it’s time to download another. Well make some room in your schedule and hard drive, kiddos, because today I present to you Hot Sugar’s latest release, Made Man, and once you start this EP you’re not gonna be able to turn away from it.
I was initially turned on to the New York City based producer by his eclectic remixes and fresh, innovative beats. Beats which are developed by the “Associative Music” technique, which essentially means Hot Sugar captures and records sounds from literally any and everywhere and transforms them beautifully into the tracks you hear now. Pretty wild. “If I point to a butterfly or a fire hydrant and say, ‘Hey, you’re in my band now, so play this,’ it will do it and no one can legally stop me,” said Hot Sugar, more formally known as Nick Koenig, in an interview with Complex.
But back to the EP, the whole thing flows so well and has this juicy, addicting vibe. Artsy, grungy, and totally rad. Like, Gorillaz meets A$AP Rocky meets Handsome Boy Modeling School in a Brooklyn subway station rhyme-spittin’ showdown. Each track features word play from artists such as, but not limited to, Big Baby Ghandi, Chippy Nonstop, Heems, Antown, and Kitty. My personal favorite? “*In & Out*,” featuring KOOL A.D.
when i put MiDi Murder EP out last year, all of NYC’s power disappeared for a week. This time the government shut down for Made Man.

You can download the EP fo’ freeeeeee (or Name Your Price) via Bandcamp. And while you’re listening, I’d highly recommend the following:
–Diving into this easy read about Hot Sugar featured in 1.21 Gigawatts magazine (page 23)
-Learning more about Associate Music here, and the exact sounds Hot Sugar uses along with his creative process (that is, if you can handle the Comic Sans)
-Watch this video of Hot Sugar’s pet rat, Sarah Michelle Gellar, create the foundation for “Watermelon”
-Enjoy.

Electronic, Videos | Kaytranada – At All (Video)
Posted by mimada on October 2, 2013
I don’t know if y’all are onto this yet but Kaytranada is basically one of the coolest producers out there right now. I mean, over pretty much any big artists in the game, I’d wanna kick it with him. Not only does he come off trill af, but this guy is in a whole other playing field, struttin’ to the beat of his own 808. And his music video for “At All” that just dropped today is the perfect example. I don’t wanna spoil it for you but really, who can make hanging out with female body builders look like the sweetest thing in the world? Not many.
But we’re here for the music anyways, right? In an interview with Noisey, Kaytranada broke down his creative process for this track in particular:
“I was in Paris when I did that song and I just wanted to make a track because I had producer’s block when I was on tour and I couldn’t do any music. I had this long break when I was in Paris though so I decided to take this Chaka Khan song. It’s one of my favourites called “I Love You, I Live You” and I just did random stuff. I usually play with the pitch of the sample but this time I just messed with it. I thought I’d bring something new to the table because not a lot of producers play with their style like that. The drums are like what I usually do with other songs.”
You can purchase his much-anticipated EP via HW&W Recordings on October 16th, and catch him live on tour with Groundislava and Jerome LOL. Check here for dates. In the meantime you can get back to your workout, and don’t forget: friends don’t let friends skip leg day.

Events, Featured | Countdown to ADE Spotlight: Kastle
Posted by mimada on October 1, 2013
Today is October 1st, which means in 16 short days Fresh New Tracks will be jetting off to the Netherlands for ADE: Amsterdam Dance Event, a five-day electronic music festival, conference, and playground taking over the city. Leading up to ADE, we’ll be filling you in on just who and what we’re looking forward to seeing most. And if any of you out there have any insider tips on the best acts to catch, drop either VMan or myself a line and we’ll be sure to add it to our list.
After browsing through the hundreds of artists set to play at ADE, Kastle’s name was the one that lingered with me the most. The producer//philosopher has beautifully maintained a characteristic, innovative sound over the period of his career thus far. If there’s any slight possibility you’ve found yourself unacquainted with Kastle and his work (which really shouldn’t be the case), then let us give you a little background. Kastle’s music tests the limits of art and expression, ranging all the way across the spectrum from electronic dub, garage, and house to R&B and hip-hop. Kastle himself, also known as Barrett Richards, is in an artistic sense a renaissance man by constantly exploring the virtues of all forms of art and philosophy. Browsing his Facebook, you might stumble upon an assortment of great music along and thought-provoking quotations with corresponding photos. I’m particularly fond of his Tumblr, which is almost like a window into Kastle’s seemingly infinite pool of inspiration.
Kastle will be headlining the Plafonddienst showcase at The Sugar Factory Thursday, October 17th. Joining him will be Liar, one of the newest additions to Kastle’s very own label, Symbols Recordings, and Tourist of the UK. I’ve heard rumors of these artists putting on live sets that are high energy and perhaps different than their typical sound, so I’m pretty anxious to see what these guys throw down. Keeping my fingers crossed for the Ellie Goulding remix Kastle dropped just a few days ago… (which is available for free download!)
Whether or not you make it out to Amsterdam for the weekend, be sure to indulge in Kastle’s vast selection of free downloads and his full length, self-titled album. While you’re at it, check out this interview with MTVHive where Kastle pairs cocktails with tracks from his album. Cheers!

Electronic, Trap | N.E.R.D. & Daft Punk – Hypnotize You (Nero Remix) (Kennedy Jones Trap Bootleg)
Posted by mimada on October 1, 2013
I’m just gonna cut to the chase and say this Kennedy Jones remix is mad dope. Go ahead and file this one under “Songs To Play At Pregames That Make Everyone Turn Up And Your Musically Inclined Friends Ask You For The Track ID.” Nero’s remix of the original NERD track was great and all, but Kennedy took it one step further and it turned out traptastic. Hey, you know while you’re at, you might as well check out the entire Buygore All Stars album fo freeeee right here.

Posted by mimada on October 1, 2013
Treat yourself today with this remix from TeamSupreme producer, Tk Kayembe, of Djemba Djemba’s rhythmic “I Just Go.” Tk’s rewerk is a bit more feminine and flirtatious, if you will, and a step away from his normal style. So before you do anything today, press play and let this track trigger your motivation to conquer your Tuesday <3

Electronic | Iggy Azalea – Change Your Life (Maddslinky Remix)
Posted by mimada on September 27, 2013
Aight y’all, I’m gonna come out and say I’ve been on a bit of a female empowerment kick lately (stay tuned, you’ll see) so I had to contribute a remix from one of the baddest bitches out in the game right now – that being, Iggy Azalea. Incase you’re not familiar with the Australian pop songstress, lemme inform you first and for most that, other than a wicked sense of style and ferocious stage presence, this girl has some serious curves, second perhaps only to the Bootylicious queen herself, Beyoncé of course. I tell you this because when you see Iggy in her music videos and on the cover of magazines, she looks like a *freaking* goddess. So all you prepubescent looking teenagers in your wife beaters can just move over because once Iggy gets in the spotlight there won’t be any room left for you.
Ehem. Anyways.
Here’s a remix from her second single of her album, The New Classic. After dropping a dope ass video, Iggy released a series of remixes of the track, so here’s my personal favorite: a very deep, head-bobbing rework from the man of many faces but who we’ll call Maddslinky // Zed Bias. Check it out, and the original video below as well.
Playlists | Warm Air Vol. 2

Well folks, it’s been real. Tomorrow, Sept 22, marks the official end of summer 2013. In honor of the change in season, I present to you the second installment of my very own Warm Air mixtapes. A mix designed to ease the transition of swimsuits to sweaters and piña coladas to pumpkin spice and peppermint mocha lattes. A mix to warm you up in the cool autumn breeze, to relive the sweet memories of the past few months, and keep your spirits up and motivated as you face challenges in school, work, and everyday life. So close your eyes, and let this mix take you back to that moment on the beach where you dug a hole in the sand with your toes as you watched the sun set, or when you indulged in the most amazing 4th of July BBQ of your life, or drove around recklessly with the top down and the radio up, or the night you watched an epic fireworks spectacle with your boo thang wrapped up tight in your arms.
Remember, just because the summer is over doesn’t mean the fun is. Oh no, 2013 can and will go out with a bang. With 3 months left to go, it’s time the real fun begins.
I’d also like to dedicated this mix to one of my most beautiful friends as she turns 21 today. Hope you enjoy this mixtape as you take your first legal swigs of alcohol today, take an extra big one for me <3
Listen to this mix via 8tracks here.
