Electro, Electronic, Videos | Party Supplies – New York 2017 (Video)
Posted by J_Salzer on September 25, 2012
I’ve started realizing that I preface every non-hip-hop post the same way: I’m not usually into this type of music. So before I start making excuses for my (lack of) ability to critique music other than hip-hop, I’ll order you to watch the video above and let Party Supplies take you on a magical journey through time. First of all, this track is dope(a word I’ve sworn to never use while blogging…oops), and the visuals only further that feeling. Peep the video above and let it transport you.
Hip-Hop, Videos | Kids These Days – Don’t Harsh My Mellow
Posted by J_Salzer on September 23, 2012
Although I’m not usually one for 45 second previews, and I’m certainly not one for posting them here for all of you to read. It’s been on unusually slow week on the blogosphere so I’ll try and brighten it up for all of you. Kids These Days is a group out of Chicago, an region that seems to be becoming the new hotbed for hip-hop talent(Chief Keef excluded). Enjoy this little preview of the Kids These Days video dropping 4 days from now.
Indie, Pop, RnB | Cris Cab – Paradise (On Earth)
Posted by J_Salzer on September 19, 2012
Cris Cab’s sound has evolved so much. When I first heard him doing covers on youtube, I was impressed by his voice. Now, I’m impressed by his sound. His intonation, tone, and control are all incredible and his sound is becoming much more mainstream(in a good way). When I heard this song, I immediately knew it was Cris, maybe because I know his music so well, or maybe because he has associated such a unique sound with his name. The chorus does get a little repetitive, but Cris does a good job changing it up slightly each time. “Paradise,” is the first leak off Cris’ upcoming EP, Rise. The production was done by Malay (Frank Ocean’s Channel Orange), which explains why it’s so good.
Hip-Hop, RnB, Videos | Frank Ocean – Pyramids (Video)
Posted by J_Salzer on September 16, 2012
frank ocean [pyramids] from christopher francis ocean on Vimeo.
Honestly there’s not much I can say about this video. Frank Ocean’s videos are always weird as hell and they make me cry out of confusion and I never understand what they’re about and I always feel like I’m missing something. I’m rambling. Well, I’ll let you try and interpret this ambiguous, yet wonderfully talented artist’s latest visual on your own. I mean, it’s on Vimeo, and it’s 8 minutes long. Good luck.
Electro, Mainstream Remix | Clinton Sparks – The Night Out (A-Trak & Clinton Sparks Remix)
Posted by J_Salzer on September 15, 2012
I would like to apologize to all of you. Clinton Sparks released a new song and I wasn’t able to get it to you for your Friday night raging festivities. I’m sure your other favorite music blog gets good music to you all day, but alas, here I am, at 6AM, wallowing in a pool of pity. BUT, atleast you’ll have Mr. Sparks’ newest banger to rage to during your college football pregaming. Clinton Sparks never disappoints, constantly releasing HUGE remixes for the pleasure of his friends and fans. If it has Clinton Sparks’ name on it, you know it’s bringing the heat. So merry raging to all, and to all a good day.
Chill, Hip-Hop | Jetpack Jones – Superficial (Prod. By Handbook)
Posted by J_Salzer on September 9, 2012
FNT favorite, Jetpack Jones, drops off his realest song to date in my humble opinion. Taking on the superficialness of the world, Jetpack does it in a creative, unique, and effortless way. The beat was crafted by UK native Handbook, and couldn’t do a better job of setting the tone for the song. The artwork, done by Eustace Francis, is elegant and beautiful, not being superficial…it’s actually really cool. Superficial is the first single off Jetpack’s upcoming FREE project, Jetpack Odyssey. Like his facebook page below, and chill out to this track on the first NFL Sunday while enjoying a nice adult drink.
Electro, Mainstream Remix | Frank Ocean – Pyramids (Chi Duly Remix)
Posted by J_Salzer on September 4, 2012
One of my favorite remixers in the game, Chi Duly, hits us with his latest rework masterpiece. I’ve been on Chi’s bandwagon since I heard his versions of The Weeknd’s tunes. A good remixer is able to keep the structure of the original song, while still being able to add their own creative pillars to…supplement it. Channel Orange was one of my favorite albums of the year, and I know many people felt the same way. But I’m sure all those people will be behind me in thanking Chi for shortening this song to half it’s original length. This track will be featured on Mick Boogie and Stylecaster’s “Sounds From The Front Row Vol. 6,” so be on the lookout for that as well. Read Chi Duly’s thoughts below the SC player after you download this work of art.
“When I remix something I visualize a place the song needs to go. Naturally the place for this song would be a trendy night club filled with mummies and Egyptians in golden robes inside of a pyramid floating in the Red Sea. They would most likely be drinking wine, dancing and conversing about a general hatred for Brendan Fraiser. I mean I’d be defending him though. Sometimes people tend to forget about a cinematic achievement called Encino Man. Anyways pyramids are crazy.”
