Hip-Hop | Logic – Tic Tac Toe (Prod. by 6ix & Official OB)
Posted by Grubeats on April 17, 2012
While his fan base is exploding like no other up and comer in the game, Logic releases the final single off his highly anticipated mixtape, Young Sinatra: Undeniable. I had the privilege to meet up and interview with Logic at his performance this past Sunday in Boston. Let me start off by saying he is one of, if not the most personable, well spoken, appreciative artists I have ever met. Taking the time to personally connect one on one with every fan at some point during the night, every fan left as a friend. With that being said, my love for his music continues to escalate along with my respect for him as an artist and a person.
This single, “Tic Tac Toe” was produced by in house Visionary Music Group producer, 6ix, along with Official OB. As expected, several people began making comparisons between Logic and Drake after his last single, Numbers, which was a result of Logic lowering his voice and singing as Drizzy often does. Logic’s answer to that, “Logic is Logic”. The versatility we’ve seen so far with the 4 singles have shown what Logic is capable of, offering up so many subgenre’s of hip-hop while maintaining a high level of lyrical expertise on each track. Crank this one up, this record is going to be huge!
Be on the lookout for an exclusive FNT x Logic interview dropping later this week!

Alternative, Pop, Videos | Josh Osho – Giants ft. Childish Gambino [Music Video]
Posted by Grubeats on April 13, 2012
[do action=”youtube” videoid=”qfab2CJ64mk”/]
It’s always gratifying finding a diamond in the ruff after searching aimlessly through Twitter, Facebook, and emails for hours, in search of music that is completely new to my ears. Josh Osho is the diamond. A 20-year old London born singer/songwriter plotting the release of his debut EP due out May 14th. Breaking out with his first single featuring Mr. Glover as Childish Gambino, Osho’s bold vocals meet the hard bars of Bino for a perfect balance of pop, alternative, and hip-hop. Facebook || Twitter
Hip-Hop | King Mez – The Allure ft. Drey Skonie (Prod. By J. Cole)
Posted by Grubeats on April 11, 2012
Sifting through today’s submissions, I caught eye of this track from King Mez, “The Allure”, highlighted by the fact it was produced by J. Cole. Sure the name associated drew my initial attention, but the beat alone won’t sell itself, even if it is from a Grammy nominated Rapper/Producer. With that being said, I was thoroughly impressed by King Mez’s delivery. A breath of Fresh air Heir (cue the hashtag to support the movement #FreshHeir). Evidently an intelligent artist, Mez provides thought provoking rhymes leaving me wanting more. An alluring introductory.
Mez’s association with Cole is still uncertain at this point, but looking ahead to see additional production off his upcoming album, My Everlasting Zeal, will feature that of Commissioner Gordon, Soundtrakk (Lupe Fiasco’s “Kick Push” and “Superstar”), Omen (Dreamville), 1120, and Prolyfic, it appears Mez has aced the art of networking. In addition, he appears to be from Raleigh, NC, a mere hour and five minute drive from Jermaine’s hometown of Fayetteville (yes, I Googled it).
*BONUS* Hit the break to see J. Cole’s newest video for “The Sideline Story” off his Grammy nominated, gold debut album, Cole World: The Sideline Story. The video is a chronological look into Cole’s worldwide ‘Cole World’ tour. READ ON >>
Hip-Hop, Videos | Macklemore & Ryan Lewis – Victory Lap [Music Video]
Posted by Grubeats on April 10, 2012

One day after hearing Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ new track, “Victory Lap”, featured on the XXL 2012 Freshman Mixtape, the Seattle duo drop the corresponding visuals. Along with being the most talented artist of his class, Macklemore’s story is one of the most interesting. Aside from the already rare accomplishment of making it as an Irish rapper in Seattle, WA, Mr. Haggerty has overcome all types of adversity to make it to where he is today. At 28 years young, things have finally begun to come to fruition, selling out arenas across the country to being named a freshman of the year by one of the most credible sources in hip-hop (Note: I cringe when saying that, but they got one thing right in selecting Macklemore for 2012, despite their other questionable finalists). All independently.
Although their careers are still very young, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis accomplishments are worth recognizing; hence, the motive behind of this track. Compiling live footage from various performances over the past 11 years, this video gives us a brief look into the prolific journey of the independent rap/production duo. Watch the video and enjoy the Whoo Kid-less version.

Hip-Hop, Mixtapes | QuEST – Nowhere To Go ft. Logic
Posted by Grubeats on April 10, 2012
Apart from the recent baby boom of Gen-Snapbacks, there are artists who continue to draw from the roots of hip hop. Lyrics are the focal point. QuEST, a native to Miami has not fallen into the trap of imitating local mainstream guru’s like Rick Ross, nor the Mac Miller army of high school “rappers”, but rather snapped back to the early 90’s where he has taken a page from his idols books. With a feature from arguably one of the realist lyricists coming up, Logic, this is one of the standout tracks off Quest’s recent mixtape, Fear Not Failure. I haven’t had a chance to listen to the project in full yet, but judging by this track and the few we’ve heard in the past, QuEST is holstering some real potential.

Hip-Hop | YONAS – One More Time
Posted by Grubeats on April 9, 2012
Gearing up for the release of his ‘ReMixtape’, entitled “The Translation”, YONAS knuckles up and takes a swing at Daft Punk’s house favorite from 2002, “One More Time”. YONAS has released a few remixes over the past several months, including his token track, “Pumped Up Kicks” which surpassed the million play mark on Youtube last month. Although the realest outta NYC is perfecting his remix game, he has ensured me he has plenty of original content on the way.
I first heard this track a month or so ago when I saw YONAS perform it live in Boston, instantly classifying it as a crowd pleasing hit. I was spoiled with a sub-par video recording of the performance I’ve been looping since, but this CDQ just made my day. If you’re a fan of house and/or Daft Punk, which I know many of you are, give this track a spin and ride with the Bronx native… One. More. Time.

Hip-Hop, Videos | Timeflies Tuesday: Jetplane
Posted by Grubeats on April 4, 2012
[do action=”youtube” videoid=”RTmqNmQppdw”/]
Very few people enjoy flying. Too many restrictions, too expensive, not enough leg room, bag of pretzels is too small, blah blah blah the list goes on. Utilizing their social Klout, Timeflies drop a video for their fans that will hopefully make it’s way to United Air’s PR desk. Sampling the famous hit, “Leaving On A Jetplane”, originally composed and made famous by John Denver, Cal raps/sings about their terrible experience at the airport(s) and then proceeds to freestyle about freestyling…really.
Timeflies tour dates can be found here, catch them if they haven’t K.O.’d you city yet.
