Hip-Hop | Wiz Khalifa – Goin’ Places ft. Mac Miller
Posted by Grubeats on September 2, 2012
Pittsburgh’s resident DJ, Fast Eddie, got an exclusive collab from the two PA kids for a feature on his most recent installment of his mixtape series Live From The 412. Although Wiz and Mac share a friendship, they have never fed off each other for features, and for the most part keep a distance in the booth to remain individual artists.’ That is certainly not to say we haven’t heard joint tracks from the two in the past, because we have, but they’re typically few and far. This one doesn’t sound like it’s hot off the decks, but embrace it and enjoy the byproduct of the Taylor Allderdice alumni.
Freestyle, Hip-Hop, Videos | Dillon Cooper – Richie Rich x Shook Ones Pt. 2
Posted by Grubeats on September 2, 2012
[do action=”youtube” videoid=”O7B8ZyU8FF4″/]
Richie Rich was easily one of my favorite movies growing up. Truth be told, I still own it on VHS. The young cat Dillon Cooper takes a few moments to pause from his video game session to personify the lavish lifestyles of the music industry. Unfortunately there’s a very high saturation of individuals of “artists” in the music industry who value their appearance more than their message. Arrogance we call it. Fortunately, Dillon Cooper does not fall into that population. This kid is raw talent and proves just that on this new freestyle.
“Supreme hats nowadays is what they call swag, culture vultures flossin’ now they think they’re all that”
In addition to “Richie Rich”, the RAD leader takes a stab at the classic, “Shook Ones Pt. 2”. I’ll say it over and over again that its hard to come on this beat proper and you don’t want to embarrass yourself if you’re going to come soft. DC holds his own on this one, well done youngen. Cooper’s debut mixtape, Season 1, coming soon!
Hip-Hop, Videos | Prince Ea – Smoking Weed With The President
Posted by Grubeats on August 30, 2012
[do action=”youtube” videoid=”gCqlW09B7PY”/]
My first post ever on FNT was “Backwards Rapper” by Price Ea. Nearly a year later, the leader of the “Make Smart Cool” campaign is back with his most powerful work to date. Laying months and months of brick and mortar into his newest piece of work, “Smoke Weed With The President”, I present one of the most insightful raps I’ve ever heard. Prince Ea is more than just a rapper, he’s more than just an artist, he’s more than just a spokesman. Influenced by the great Steve Urkel, this St. Louis, MO native is not only bringing intellect back to a depleted genre, but his content revolves around education. The art of educating is one of the most powerful influences beheld by any man. Prince’s ability to convey his message through music gives him a competitive advantage in reaching a whole new demographic.
He has done his research. “Smoking Weed With The President” is an open letter to the US government, and more specifically, President Obama. It’s a movement for truth and opportunity. It’s a topic that everyone has an opinion on; smokers and non-smokers. I’ll let the song do the talking, because frankly, it’s a lot more valuable to listen to that than it is to me blog. This is much more than music. I hope even my hip-hop haters enjoy this one. Sound off in the comments section with your reaction!
Hip-Hop, Videos | Macklemore & Ryan Lewis – Thrift Shop ft. Wanz [Music Video]

*UPDATE* Here is the official video. Macklemore is my idol. Prediction: Goodwill & Salvation Army sales suddenly spike 206%. Enjoy!
Following their previous single, “Same Love”, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis lighten up a bit with their newest release, while Macklemore flaunts his god given talent of second hand shopping. Kanye may be the most prolific dresser in the rap game, but nobody recycles threads like the Seattle MC. The blurb below seems to be circulating the blogosphere and as expected, it’s an epic rant. Enjoy the audio for tonight and expect the visuals at some point tomorrow! The Heist coming 10.9.12.

“I am the most prolific thrift shopper in the rap game right now. What Bob Barker is to the Price Is Right, I am to used fringe jackets. My collection is worth anywhere between $70 and a $100,000,000 depending on who’s appraising it. I’m gonna be honest, if it’s me…. I’m going with a million. Count the zero’s. That’s how many fur jackets I have. Tell PETA my Mink, Fox, Rabbit, Coyote, and Hungarian Raccoon jacket are ALL dragging on the floor. And I don’t mean that in a disrespectful way. I love my animals. But they’re dead. And they’ve been dead for hella. When I wear them, I’m bringing them back to life and introducing them to a whole new generation who wasn’t around when they were out in the woods doing their thing. Those animals have now migrated from some old lady’s closet, to a thrift shop and are now getting their proper shine, up to 40 years later. It’s recycling. And recycling is beautiful, am I right? That’s what this song is about.” – Macklemore
Hip-Hop | Aziz – My Own World [Music Video]

“What am I? Who am I? I’m heavily scrutinized, They say, “pick a nationality.” Either way I choose divides me”
Aziz has experimented with his sounds over the past few years, seen the highs and lows, and is back with a revamped style fitting for all fans of old and new. His previous single, “City Livin” which featured singer/guitarist Mike Irving was a very laid back acoustic jam, heavily suited for the season. The newest release, “My Own World” focuses on the adversity Aziz has been faced with throughout life, birthed from a German mother and a Senegalese father, Aziz is constantly questioned “what he is”. The NH born MC has fought through the doubt and disbelief and is again proving his abilities. These past 2 releases have been my favorite in quite some time from Aziz and I love the new sound he has brought to the table. New mixtape, Tinderboxx, due in late September.

Hip-Hop, Pop, Videos | Sammy Adams – All Night Longer [Music Video]

Catering to his loyal night owls, Sammy heads to the local dive bar to rage with his boys and a few foxy female friends who provide a visual treatment for his newest ear candy sing along, “All Night Longer”. Sam has a knack for brewing up catchy hooks and this just may be one of his best to date. While “Only One” is still ringing heavily on the airwaves and his recent pre-album mixtape, OK COOL, is blasting out students iPods, Boston’s Boy appears to have yet another radio smasher. The fun, lighthearted, party video is supplemented by creative and humorous artistic animations that do anything but discourage one more shooter.
Did I mention Sam has a collab on deck with one of Europe’s most recognized pop stars, Enrique Iglesias? True story.
