Hip-Hop, Mixtapes, Videos | Caskey – Words [Music Video]

Open your ears to Caskey. Hailing from Orlando, FL, Caskey recently signed with YMCMB presumably before the release of his mixtape, No Complaints. “Words” is my first introduction to Caskey, who takes five minutes to illustrate the significance, or lack of, something we use in everyday conversation. Far too often hip-hop artists find themselves using words in the wrong context. Caskey exercises his ability to shed light on just that, creating what basically translates to a lyric video on steroids. In house producer, Avengerz, enters the track with very faint snaps allowing Caskey to grasp the attention of his audience with his words, before kicking it up to an abstract, trippy melody.

Hip-Hop | Azad Right – Winds of Change
Posted by Grubeats on September 8, 2012
With the second release of his newest weekly series, #GetRightTuesdays, Azad takes a minute to vent about his current position in the industry over production from the talented Jonathan Marquez. I’m not sure what it is about the hook on this track, but it embodies West coast hip-hop. I’m not entirely sure what that even means, but it’s powerful. While too many artists have glitz, glamour, and greenbacks in the forefront of their game plan, the left coast poet keeps his eyes set on his five year plan. Get ready Right for a couple big releases from Azad as well as several videos and singles dropping leading up to the release of his next mixtape, For The Hopeful, expected later this year.

Don’t bother telling me this is old, I know its been out for a month plus.
Michael Jones (Wax), not to be confused with the infamous Mike Jones, puts to work his uncanny ability to exercise trickery and sexual innuendos in his newest video for his lead single, “Rosana”. It’s as addictive as popcorn at the movie theater and once the you hear the hook once, you’ll be loving and hating me simultaneously. Big Wax, you’ve got another one homie.

Hip-Hop, Pop | Jared Evan – One Good Thing [Music Video]
Posted by Grubeats on September 3, 2012
[do action=”youtube” videoid=”mi-HVdwI5Dk”/]
Jared Evan. Don’t forget that name. I came across the multi talented musician hailing from NYC a couple of weeks ago on DJBooth and instantly found myself replaying his free debut EP, The 4th Chapter. Jared is a very special artist because his style is so unique and fuses so many different genres. In his song “Traffic Light”, my personal favorite, he confidently opens up his rap verse by saying, “You say I’m rock but I’m not, I’m hip-hop but I’m pop, and all they label me as is a Kid Rock with a shot“, before diving further into how his style is often defined. If you’re wondering who’s singing and who’s rapping on each track, know that Jared is doing both. Beginning as a rapper, he decided he would prefer to fill the bridges with his own voice rather than finding someone who could deliver exactly what he was looking for on each track. Rapping, singing, drums, guitar, piano, self production, the list goes on for Jared.
While the EP has a little bit of everything to offer, the video above for “One Good Thing” epitomizes the beauty of music. This is one of the most powerful messages in the album and tells a lot about Jared as an artist and as a person. If you L-O-V-E this song and video, be sure to grab the entire FreEP below.
