Hip-Hop, Interviews | Drop City Yacht Club (Interview & New Single)

Posted by on February 26, 2014

Enjoy the below interview and hit play on Drop City Yacht Club’s new single “No Better” featuring Jonn Hart!

By Annie Dineen

Somewhere at the intersection of T-birds and subway cars, sand and flannel, and palm trees and boom boxes is Drop City Yacht Club. The California-based group’s hooks are uptempo pop while verses draw you in lyrically. Their breakout hit “Crickets,” for instance, regales the plight of being rejected. “ I got turned down 7 times tonight,” DCYC’s A. Wolf says at DC’s 9:30 Club on the opening night of their tour with Goodie Mob. They tell me their breakout track “Crickets” is not only about being dissed by a girl but also the frustrations with rejection they had all experienced as solo artists in the music industry.

Preview, Progressive House, Trap | What So Not – JAGUAR (Preview)

Posted by on December 4, 2013

Didn’t really know what to expect out of this track when it first got started in my speakers, but once the ball got rolling, the drop blew my frickin brains out. It’s been a huge year for What So Not and this is the perfect way to top off the 2013 music career. It nicely full of melodies and hooks to please the ear but has a massive eruption of bass and extreme feeling that other songs cannot compare to. It’s a huge staple in his growing setlist for sure and still vibes to that signature What So Not sound so its a win/win for everyone. Look for this December 10th via OWSLA.

Chill, Hip-Hop, Rap | Jetpack Jones ft. James Joseph – Solar (Prod. Brock Berrigan)

Fresh New Track’s favorite emcee, Jetpack Jones, hits us with his latest masterpiece, Solar. Solar is different than most Jetpack tracks, but instead of leaving you all to struggle trying to find out what that special something is, I’ll just tell you. Jetpack recruited a singer to sing his hook. Usually, Jetpack sings his own hooks, but I think that this is a nice change up and let’s him focus on purely rapping. “Solar” is my favorite Jetpack track to date, and I’m sure his upcoming mixtape, Beyond Infinity, will have plenty of songs just like this for me to vibe to. Grab the track for free courtesy of the man and be on the lookout for the next single off of “Beyond Infinity”

Hip-Hop, Pop | Double Vision – Geronimo

Double Vision - Geronimo

The South Boston duo, Double Vision, puts out another hit party track to celebrate life with us. These guys always seem to find the right balance between Pop and Hip-Hop, delivering verses and hooks that are radio ready. This is the second time in a row that Double Vision has got me singing along with their music. I can’t deny how catchy this is, these raps and hooks are pure gold. You just have to jump in on this track, “Geronimo!”

Progressive House | Mako – Beam (feat. Angel Taylor)

Progressive young guns Mako have just dropped an absolutely massive rework of one of their very first tracks, and let me just say that this Cali-based duo is not kidding around. Infectious hooks, huge builds, and vocals that demand you sing along all make “Beam” a necessary addition to your rotation as we (finally!) start heading into warm spring weather. This is a windows down, volume up kind of song and is certainly an indication of what we can expect from these two in the coming weeks and months. They may have let it slip that they’ve got some big and exciting things dropping in the not so distant future, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled.

Electro | Skorby – Laser Destruction

Posted by on June 26, 2012

Seventeen year-old Skorby is back and making me feel (once again) like I contributed nothing to society as a teenager. The young producer has a flair for slamming catchy, progressive hooks into white knuckle-inducing electro breaks and “Laser Destruction” is no exception. Those crazy synth leads after the drop are in the grand tradition of Alvin Risk; I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t head knocking at my cubicle right now.

Hip-Hop | K’naan – Nothing To Lose Ft. Nas

Posted by on January 21, 2012

Off of K’naans upcoming EP, More Beautiful Than Silence, Nothing To Lose provides a sick beat. In my opinion the hook is a bit weak, but it’s K’naan. Besides Dusty Foot Philosopher, he’s not exactly known for any great hooks. Nas without a doubt killed it with his verse, not sure why he allows himself to be just featured. Track should read,”Nas Ft. K’naan.”
