Trap | Bro Safari – That A$$

Posted by on September 13, 2012

Bro Safari is back with another big free download for his fans, this time bringing us some bouncy trap that’s tailor-made for a 12th Planet liveset, that house party you were thinking of throwing this weekend, or your car’s speakers when you’re whippin it with the windows down and want to let the world know what’s good. Yes, everyone is all over trap right now (undoubtedly to the endless amusement of the hip hop community, which has been pumping out trap since 1873), but there’s no denying that when it’s good it gets the vibes flowing like nothing else.

Drum & Bass | DnB Friday’s

Posted by on September 1, 2012

Kicking off Dnb Fridays we have this awesome video of Koven using an Alphasphere to create some grimy futuristic drum & bass. Using some KOAN Sound style synths mixed with a little bit of Spor style as well. This isn’t a usual style that you would expect from Koven, but change isn’t always for the worst with some artists. Grab the track for free from the video description.

Silence Groove have always been a favorite of mine as far as liquid DnB is concerned. This amazing artist always keep things simple but yet effective and emotional. He shows us that you don’t always have to have the craziest synths to create some amazing music.

On the other hand if you do feel like incorporating some crazy heavy synths this is probably the product you will get. Black Sun Empire gets raunchy with this freebie track entitled Delorean. Great work as usual from these guys.

Last but not least is a pretty awesome funky track from Featurecast. Having that DJ Fresh uplifting style of Dnb with vocals; this track is a great way to kick off the weekend. Nothing short of amazing on this track with some great melodies as well as some groovy synth sounds.

Electro | Krftkds – I Won’t Stop

Posted by on August 24, 2012

It is not too late to add one more banger to your epic Friday night plans. Krftkds really brought the noise with this Electro Trash bomb. After listening I can still feel the heavy electro’s splash damage to my ears. This is an awesome track to rage to this weekend. Turn it up loud and let it rule your night.

Electro-House, Trance | Above & Beyond – Sun & Moon (Gazzo Remix)

Posted by on August 17, 2012

Gazzo is back again this week, and just in time to kick off the weekend. This remix is very different from what I was expecting a Trance and Electro-House blend to be. The build up is lengthy, but well worth the dutch like drop. Once that comes in, the party really gets started. A perfect remix for a steamed up dance floor this weekend.

Featured, Review | Lollapalooza 2012

As a first timer at Lollapalooza, nothing could prepare me for what I witnessed last weekend. 3 days worth of 100,000 people, 130 acts, 8 stages and one astounding Chicago skyline adding the finishing touch to every night. Lollapalooza 2012 reeled in artists from almost every possible genre of music and every corner of the globe, with a crowd of all ages that was alive every second from start to finish.

Friday welcomed the weekend with open arms and clear skies. Perry’s Stage, known for featuring electronic artists, was stripped of its roof and enlarged to accommodate the recent growth of EDM fans. With artists such as Madeon, Porter Robinson, Zedd, Nero, and Bassnectar all in one day, it’s no surprise the stage and entire surrounding area was packed to the brim. Of the most memorable, 18 year old Madeon managed to squeeze in every one of his crowd favorites, from “Finale” to “Pop Culture” in one hour of solid fist pumping, while the underrated duo, Nero, blew the crowd away with their “Feels So Close” remix and “Promises,” featuring live vocalist Alana Watson. For the more laidback audience, there was Passion Pit, M83 and The Shins, never failing to deliver an uplifting show. And for those who just wanted to get down, Wale, Black Sabbath and The Black Keys finished off the day, rocking the night away into the after shows, which kept the music going across town until 4am.

Electro-House | Wolfgang Gartner – Casual Encounters of the 3rd Kind EP

Posted by on July 30, 2012

After a weekend of nonstop action at Identity Festival, Wolfgang Gartner got down to business this morning and dropped a two-track EP on Beatport. My initial reaction to Casual Encounters of the 3rd Kind is a resounding mehhhh; there are no big, infectious melodies a la “Redline,” “Flexx” or the inimitable “Illmerica” here, and while that’s not automatically a bad thing, the clean, simple and repetitive game has been played to more kinetic and spectacular effect elsewhere (ex: Afrojack’s “Pop On Acid;” Wolfgang’s own “Space Junk”). Maybe it’s just that I’m aggressively not feeling the whiny loop at the beginning of “Girl on Boy” (can’t help but think that Alvin Risk would have done something better there) but these tracks just don’t seem to go anywhere that interesting. But who knows, maybe they’ll wind up being awesome live. We shall see, I guess. Check out the EP and let us know what you think.
