Progressive House | Kill FM ft. Leah Hayes – Lies (Melodic Mix)
Posted by Mel on February 19, 2014
The Swedish production duo by the name of Kill FM released their original mix of “Lies” a little over a week ago and to celebrate, are giving away their melodic mix to that very track. If you are familiar with the original, the melodic mix is literally the same exact thing, with the only difference being the drop. Kill FM, brilliantly named, is known for their bass heavy take on electro house and that is what the original song was. The melodic mix, however, is exactly what it sounds like, uplifting. Also, possibly melodic. The drop seems to fit more naturally in this version making it my preferred of the two.

Spring comes early, and Androma’s the one bringing the sunlight with his release of “Kaya,” a deep house remix of Vera Hall’s “Trouble So Hard” made popular by Moby’s “Natural Highs,” and if you’ve been tired of the saxophone or the bells in your deep house music expect none, but rather a funky guitar, uplifting piano chords a la Michel Fuguain, layered with high pitched retro synths that will have you feeling great! If you’re looking for the feel good track of the day, Androma’s “Kaya” takes it! This is a must listen!
Albums, Electronic | Cashmere Cat – Wedding Bells EP & Video
Posted by mimada on February 13, 2014
Yes folks, this is the week we have all been waiting for. Just a few days ago, our favorite feline Cashmere Cat dropped his highly anticipated EP, appropriately titled Wedding Bells, and as a follow up, the music video counterpart for the title track.
As a whole, the EP is a musical journey with uplifting builds and cadences of flutes, piano chords, and dew drops that send you soaring like a leaf wistfully falling in the breeze. In accordance with the theme, each track plays out a motif that strikes a different chord of your heart strings, from the early stages of butterflies and passing notes to the all encompassing feeling of true, uninhibited love. *swoon*
And it seems Cashmere Cat has a complete grasp of his artistic vision in every possible sense, as the visual pairing for the leading single compliments the track in the most compassionate of ways.
Now, according to a Pitchfork review by Nate Patrin, the innovative and “fundamental” nature of the EP marks a turning point in the direction of electronic music, and even more importantly Cashmere’s skyrocketing career. But I beg to differ with Patrin’s claim that it is difficult to develop any sort of “emotional connection to the cuts” as instilling that type of emotion in his listeners seems to be at the top of his artistic agenda. While Patrin argues that these melodies create more “agitation than elation,” I think that’s what causes us to enjoy the EP more and more. There are those moments of slight unease that with a second listen, evolve into strong feelings of adoration, like taking yourself of your listening comfort zone and discovering a whole new appreciation for the sound.
If you haven’t already, you can purchase the Wedding Bells EP via iTunes, and consider saving some money on chocolate and roses tomorrow and burn a copy of it for your significant other as well. That’s when the real magic happens =^.^=

Progressive House | Strange Talk – Young Hearts (Marcus Santoro & JAKKO Bootleg)
Posted by Mel on February 10, 2014
Marcus Santoro and Jakko, previously known as Jako, who prior to that was just called Jake-oh, and prior to that just went by his ethnically pure Brazilian name of Lucas Bojakowski, have teamed up to remix Strange Talk’s “Young Hearts”. We have been supporting both of these guys for a while now and their styles fit together perfectly, like a delicate cupcake and a sweet, succulent flower. That flower has slowly at first and then with increasing speed entered that cupcake and what we have now is the merging of each of their sounds. Marcus’ euphoric, uplifting style gels perfectly with Jakko’s euphoric and uplifting style, which in turn creates an uplifting and euphoric track. Must listen, must download!!!

Progressive House | Disfunktion & Chris Arnott – Right Now

Much like the hit love song of the early 2000’s, T Pain’s “I’m ‘n Luv (Wit a Stripper)”, Disfunktion, a Dutch progressive house duo has not been at the forefront of peoples minds recently. It has been a while since their last official release but that has now changed. They teamed up with Australian vocalist Chris Arnott on “Right Now”, their newest offering on Zouk Recordings. In 2011 and 2012, they put out a lot of remixes and bootlegs and became known for their uplifting, progressive sound. That didn’t hold up however, as they have gone for a harder, not as melodic or generic sound since then. They have merged those two styles and the result is what we have now, a song with the uplifting feel of their early stuff as well as an example of their newer work. It’s good to see them progressing as artists because, quite honestly, their productions were starting to feel pretty bland by the end of 2012.

FNT welcome new comer Jess Marquis with his latest remix of Ellie Goulding’s “Burn,” an uplifting club progressive house take on the UK vocalist’s tune. I first heard this track when Jess played it at his residency for Brite Nites at Webster Hall a few weeks back, and my first comment to him after his set was: “I need that remix!” I’m all about uplifting feel good tracks with bright piano chords, and a ton of soul, and let’s just say he turned this mainstream drum n bass record into an anthem! Give us more Jess Marquez! This is a must listen and a must download!

The soft vocals of Sufjan Stevens have made them a popular target for remixers everywhere and the latest comes from DC native Peter Brennan and NYC producer TCUP. The two producers take full advantage of the soothing male vocals, adding their own uplifting synth melody that meshes well into the track and adds a ton of energy to the track.
