Chill, Electronic | Schoolboy Q – Studio (PromNite Edition)

Posted by on May 14, 2014

“Studio” was hands down my favorite track off Oxymoron, but then again I’m a real sucker for those R&B//rap ballads. I’m also a sucker for just about anything mystery producer PromNite puts out. But hear me out on this remix here – PromNite keeps the deep, smokey vibes first brought to us by Schoolboy and BJ The Chicago Kid and mixes it up with some electronic beats, drums, and a touch of piano to make an even more sultry track that you won’t be able to wait to get down to. Dope.

Electronic, Trap | Alison Wonderland – I Want U (Prod. by Djemba Djemba)

Posted by on May 7, 2014

A little late on this one but in case you missed it last week, Aussie vixen Alison Wonderland dropped her latest track titled “I Want U,” produced by none other than Djemba Djemba. This track exhibits Alison’s sultry sound perfectly paired with DD’s basstastic flair. The visual pairing is, might I say considerably dark, and may throw you off at first but will eventually make you want to strobe the lights and behave erratically in your bedroom as well. Turn it up.

Calvin Harris’ latest release “Summer” is huge, and now it’s only about to get bigger, as the Club Killers release a banging festival trap mix of the tune already getting full support from DJs all over the clubs and radios. My good friend Angus just put LA trio AndDrop on my radar and their latest remix of D!RTY AUD!O’s “Flame,” a mix of a trap and bass to get your Thirsty Thursday started early! Blending, elements of deep house, trap, and progressive house, to my ears at least, this track will fare well at your Summer parties, hard enough to hit, and light enough to keep the rager contained. I dig it, and I just want to point out that I also dig the bandana design on the cover, very G! This is a must listen and a must download!

Here’s a progressive wavy record for ya’ll “Paria” by Canadian production duo Kill Them With Colour intended to accompany your high during this 4/20 week long celebration (you read it correctly, week long celebration), though if you did it right you should still be THC’ed out from yesterday’s session. The vibes on this record are electric, but I can’t help but hear an artist like Drake hopping on this and crashing the internet with it. If you’re open to new sounds, and like some melody to your trap, this one’s for you! This is a must listen and a must download!

Alternative, Drum & Bass, Electronic | Max Frost – White Lies (Tune In Crew Remix) // Tune In Crew – Still Waters

Two big new tracks from one of our favorite duos out of France, the Tune In Crew. The first is a high energy, drum n’ bass-infused remix of Max Frost’s “White Lies,” which switches up the vocal blend of the original while weaving in a rich combination of live instruments (is that a maracas?). An unexpected but wonderfully seamless trap break mellows out the vibe midway through before the track hurtles back into a spray of fast-paced kicks. The second track switches gears considerably; drawing inspiration from epic movie soundtracks, the twangy, instrumental “Still Waters” is yearning and bluesy and would no doubt be right at home in a Tarantino montage. Stream both below.

Electro, Trap | Daytrip – Flight 43 (NYC)

Posted by on April 9, 2014

Before deeming any new music as something special it needs to pass my three-stage exam. Make no mistake, this is not an easy feat as the song or artist must sound equally glorious through headphones, car speakers, and desktop speakers. This morning sealed the deal, and Daytrip has officially passed the test.

Their first official release is entitled “Flight 43”, and it seems quite fitting. The song builds for take-off, and cruises through an exciting ride –is there such thing as pleasant turbulence?– before finally slowing down to land, awaiting their next journey. Although it is the first song public on SoundCloud, it’s apparent the Daytrip duo is not new to making music. And, any look through their travel-log/tumblr will show you that this product has been a long time coming.

Daytrip’s sound is one that is difficult to pinpoint. While some may knock “Flight 43 (NYC)” for trying to do too much, I hear a song that is incredibly cohesive, despite its numerous experimental features. Listeners can hear a Jacuzzi/Mr. Carmack future-trap influence alongside a shredded guitar sample, all packaged in to an “ambitious powerhouse production” (Confusion, P&P).

In a day and age where music is becoming a “less is more” game, Daytrip is an exciting, unexpected and refreshing twist.
