Posted by VMan on March 6, 2017
With SXSW just a few days away, we thought we’d bring to your attention a noteworthy industry panel that discusses a topic most electronic music fans would be curious to learn about: ‘How to Develop an Electronic Artist: Matoma‘. Over the past couple years, Matoma’s online and live presence has skyrocketed. The tropical house artist has garnered hundreds of millions of plays on Spotify and is one of the most streamed artists in the world. He recently sold out Terminal 5 in New York with support from Two Friends and Aston Shuffle.
On this SXSW panel are Billboard’s Senior Dance Editor Matt Medved, Matoma’s agent Ferry Rais-Shaghaghi from APA, Tom (Matoma) himself and more. The panel will be taking place on March 16 from 5pm to 6pm. Moreover, Matoma has recently announced a “Matoma & Friends” official SXSW showcase at Kingdom on March 17 that will go on from 9pm to 2am. This is not something you’ll want to miss!

News | Monstercat Joins With Splice For Live Streaming Artist Collab at SXSW
Posted by JT on March 18, 2015
As we begin SXSW Music 2015, we also mark a major chapter in the Monstercat narrative as the team leaps across the realm of internet dominance and into the live performance sphere via its label showcase on March 19th at the Empire Control Room. While this exciting initiative from Monstercat is great for the label, what is truly setting the showcase apart is teaming with the game changing startup Splice, the platform for music creation, collaboration and sharing. For the first time ever, Monstercat and Splice will host a live stream of Monstercat artists collaborating on a track using Splice. Haywyre’s WIP (Work In Progress) will kick things off and with Splice’s cutting edge platform will be picked up by Aero Chord to add his touches to the track; all of this will be streamed live on Splice and Monstercat’s Twitch channels. Fans will be able to watch minute by minute and get an inside look at the production process in Ableton Live as well as download the WIP to create their very own versions.
This event showcases the tools available for artists through Splice, which eliminate the dreadful hurry-up-and-wait moments of working with fellow artists remotely, and give fans up-close access to the incredible creative ability of Monstercat’s roster. For anyone in Austin on March 19th, this event is a must-attend. And for those who aren’t lucky enough to make the trip to The Lone Star state, be sure to tune in to twitch.tv/monstercat 9:00 PM EST/ 8:00 PM CT to witness this incredible exhibition.

Events, Hip-Hop, Review | SXSW: GoldLink at Soulection’s “Sound of Tomorrow” Showcase
Posted by admin on March 27, 2014
On Saturday March 15th at precisely 2:50pm in sunny Austin, Texas the young and mysterious rapper by the name of GoldLink stepped upon the stage at Barcelona. A showcase aptly titled the “Sound of Tomorrow” had a bill filled with the futuristic sounding producers on Soulection’s roster. GoldLink was neither a part of Soulection’s imprint, nor was he a producer…so as I and the numerous other audience members asked ourselves what he was doing up on stage, he slowly began to gather himself and show us why.
GoldLink’s music is best described by Chuck Allen of Way Less Effort: “Of all the new sounds that have popped up in the industry, from the soul-sucking gothic southern grime that the UK and South Florida have been dropping, to the glo’d up trap of the Chi, this new “future bounce” sound really stands out. It doesn’t throw it all the way back to boom-bap like the “New New York” ish that Pro Era has been pushing, and it isn’t on that entirely digital production tip either. It mixes the buttery grooves of 90?s R&B with classic hip-hop breaks to give it an essence of nostalgia, and then turns on its head with bouncy, forward-thinking production from the likes of Kaytranada and Ta-ku. Add that to Goldlink’s roller coaster flow that fills every pocket of the dynamic instrumentals he tackles, and suddenly your head and shoulders are bobbing and you don’t know what happened.” *1
This future-bounce movement was prevalent all the way through his performance as he went worked through his short SoundCloud catalog, spitting out his semi-viral hits such at “Creep”, “Playah”, and at-the-time-unreleased song “Planet Paradise”. I was entranced by his energetic stage presence and ability to work a crowd whom was not at all expecting to be seeing a rapper on stage.
GoldLink has remained unseen by the internet world, but with his forthcoming mixtape, The God Complex set to drop in a matter of days, I can’t imagine his face avoiding the limelight for much longer. Enjoy, GoldLink’s newest release “Planet Paradise” produced by Louie Lastic, and be sure to prepare yourself for SXSW next year, since it’s never too early to start planning!

Albums, Electronic | Cashmere Cat – Wedding Bells EP & Video
Posted by mimada on February 13, 2014
Yes folks, this is the week we have all been waiting for. Just a few days ago, our favorite feline Cashmere Cat dropped his highly anticipated EP, appropriately titled Wedding Bells, and as a follow up, the music video counterpart for the title track.
As a whole, the EP is a musical journey with uplifting builds and cadences of flutes, piano chords, and dew drops that send you soaring like a leaf wistfully falling in the breeze. In accordance with the theme, each track plays out a motif that strikes a different chord of your heart strings, from the early stages of butterflies and passing notes to the all encompassing feeling of true, uninhibited love. *swoon*
And it seems Cashmere Cat has a complete grasp of his artistic vision in every possible sense, as the visual pairing for the leading single compliments the track in the most compassionate of ways.
Now, according to a Pitchfork review by Nate Patrin, the innovative and “fundamental” nature of the EP marks a turning point in the direction of electronic music, and even more importantly Cashmere’s skyrocketing career. But I beg to differ with Patrin’s claim that it is difficult to develop any sort of “emotional connection to the cuts” as instilling that type of emotion in his listeners seems to be at the top of his artistic agenda. While Patrin argues that these melodies create more “agitation than elation,” I think that’s what causes us to enjoy the EP more and more. There are those moments of slight unease that with a second listen, evolve into strong feelings of adoration, like taking yourself of your listening comfort zone and discovering a whole new appreciation for the sound.
If you haven’t already, you can purchase the Wedding Bells EP via iTunes, and consider saving some money on chocolate and roses tomorrow and burn a copy of it for your significant other as well. That’s when the real magic happens =^.^=
