Review | Dillon Francis – “Something, Something, Awesome.” EP

Dillon Francis released his new EP today as a little Valentine’s day present to his fans. There may be only three tracks (one for each Dillon Francis on that cover art?) but this EP is nonetheless fire: it combines electro house with the downtempo funk of moombahton to great effect. Dillon has already managed to cultivate an undeniably distinctive sound and these tracks reinforce that, with high-pitched synths and the agile, I.D.G.A.F.O.S.-esque melodies that are rapidly becoming his trademark. And, of course, plenty of driving and super danceable moombah basslines. Good stuff all around. My favorite of the three is currently “Dill The Noise,” which Sev previewed in last night’s Moomabah Mondays post, but “Falling Up” (which you may have already heard on BBC Radio 1) is packed with catchy riffs and “Now Hear This” layers some heavier electro synths under those recognizable moombahton leads. In short, this is a must DL; I have a feeling that Dillon’s in for a very big year so support his work by purchasing these tracks on Beatport.
Progressive House | Siege – Roads

The Belgian Dj/producer Seig Motmans or Siege who has gained some notoriety for his “Les Djinns” re-edit, is back with a single “Roads” on Zouk Records with support from Pete Tong and others. Finding his way in the increasingly crowded progressive house scene, he manages to stay creative with a well constructed melodic bass line and outstanding synth work to create this superior house gem on Zouk Records. An Italian duo that goes by the name of The Moogs just unleashed this remix of Resurrection that has me in shock. As if Axwell’s remix wasn’t amazing enough, these guys blew it out of the water. Taking the catchy melody provided by Michael Calfan and beefing up it up with deadmau5 esque elecro synths and chainsaw madness! This track is an absolute banger and a must have for all electro and even dubstep fans. Be sure to show these guys some support and like their Facebook page and follow them on Soundcloud.

For someone who’s accustomed to being a misogynistic bro, Childish Gambino’s “Heartbeat” video doesn’t exactly fit the bill. “Heartbeat” tells the story of two former lovers who struggle to deal with the initial breakup. Gambino knows the hottest love has the coldest end- and chose to make the video reflect the mood of the song. Since “Camp” is still in session, continue to support the child by purchasing his debut album on iTunes. Grab some graham crackers and marshmallows- this song is about to be on fire.

The “Troll” has finally been released by the Swedish Size label members Alex Lager and Johannes Gustafsson who make up Qulinez. They have been heralded as an integral piece of the new Size 2.0 and this song is a massive tune that will only launch their success for this year and in the coming years. With its beefy bassline, intense electro house riffs and pitched synths, this song is a must have for your collection with its combination of power and attention to detail. These guys are really down to earth and decided to add a whole bunch of fans on skype yesterday just to chat, so support them.
Progressive House | Adrian Lux feat. Lune – Fire

Adrian Lux with the help of Lune has finally released this massive progressive house track onto the world after playing this out for the better part of a year. Lune provides sublime vocals for this euphoric track from the young Swede most known for his massive single “Teenage Crime” that was then remixed by Henrik B and Axwell and turned into a worldwide anthem. Sensitive guitar melodies start this one off and lead into a steady bass line and a melodic synth breakdown to die for. Adrian Lux is the man, he pounds brews like it is his job at shows so support him and get this song on Beatport, iTunes or DjTunes (320s cheaper than Beatport). Also look out for his debut album on Ultra Records set to release April 5th.
