Compilation, Playlists | Songs You Should Know Vol. 7

Posted by on October 22, 2015

Hellooooo once again, my fellow music lovers! After a long hiatus of post-graduation soul searching, adventure seeking and couch surfing, I am happy to say I am back in the game and ready to rock your world with all the music that has been rocking mine over the past six months. It’s been a whirlwind adventure for me recently, and the winds have blown my sails all over the map as far as music goes. I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone and started binging on genres such as southern blues, classic soul, grainy 70’s surf rock, Brazilian reggae and even, dare I say, country *gasp*. So, while I typically try to keep these posts limited to recent releases of artists on the rise that need to be heard, you’re going to hear maybe some songs in these genres that aren’t exactly what you normally listen to, but just give them a chance, and if you don’t like it, hit next, because hey – there’s over 20 songs that made it on this month’s list so, plenty to choose from.

Now, let’s get to the jams.

Alternative, Chill, Indie | Outasight Premiere’s Latest Single ‘Boogie’ On FNT

There is nothing better than good music. The type of music that just grabs your soul and makes you want to share it with the world. The type of music we will still be listening to in 40 years. Richard Andrew, a Yonkers, NY native, better known by his stage name Outasight is making exactly that type of music.

Boogie is the most recent single off his forthcoming album’Big Trouble‘ which is his first project since parting ways with WMG and going independent. Despite the lack of funding and resources of being independent, Outasight has created a much more vibrant sound full of amazing instrumentation. With his previous singles from the new album having more of a funk feel to it, Boogie comes in heavy with rock influence but still has those good vibes that previous singles ‘Big Trouble‘ and ‘The Wild Life‘ have made us accustomed to.

As a fan of the 2000s classic film, Wet Hot American Summer, I had to listen to The Interns’ brand new mix, “The Interns Presents: Wet Hot Los Angeles Summer,” when it came scrolling by while I was on my daily SoundCloud scavenge. The LA-based duo of Toks and Colby have been steadily making a name for themselves with their feel-good brand of house music, as they’re coming off a second consecutive appearance at EDC Las Vegas after establishing themselves as names to watch for in the burgeoning LA dance scene. On their hour-long mix, The Interns glide through a number of their inspirations, showcasing the soul and groove that has come to define their music. House | Michael Calfan Unveils His Summer Anthem “Mercy”

We’ve come a long way since the days of listening to disco, house, and techno in illegal warehouse parties, but the soul and emotion of dance music has never changed. As dance music has grown bigger and bigger, producers have looked outside of traditional genre boundaries, bringing together different elements of various genres to create more innovative, niche sounds. Michael Calfan has been exploring deeper sonic territories of house lately, combining deep house with elements of big room to create what he dubs “soul house.” His latest track, “Mercy,” is soul house at its finest, as Calfan layers a piano-driven melody with an old-school vocal sample and blaring horn arrangements that gives the track a sunny personality.

Pop | Galantis Sprinkle “Gold Dust” On The Masses

Posted by on February 19, 2015

Premiered earlier today, Swedish hit makers Galantis release their highly anticipated “Gold Dust” single to immense fanfare. Infectious and enduring, “Gold Dust” is an anthem that reaches deep into the soul. While the vocalist is unknown, the vocal performance perhaps steals the show, as it arouses an emotional exuberance rarely found in radio-friendly bangers. Galantis’s “Gold Dust” is set to release on Big Beat February 23rd. Incredible record.

I was put on to Keljet during my time in Amsterdam for ADE, and a part from being super cool dudes, and talented producers, they really knew how to put on a show, and I’ve been a fan since! This time around, these guys remixed Tobtok’s “Savanna,” and it’s bringing sunlight to this rainy day, on that uplifting soul vibe. This is one you’re going to want to hear, the vocals are orgasmic, it’s a must listen!
