Boston’s Clinton Sparks has been on a meteoric rise over the past couple years, making the transition from a notable DJ to vocal artist. Releases with Macklemore, 2-Chainz, T-Pain, Snoop Dogg, Mike Posner and Big Sean have catapulted him into stardom,, solidifying his place amongst the biggest pop heavyweights. Released on Cruzach Music Group, “Saturday Night” is arguably Clinton’s biggest song to date, an anthem with a mean hook and even meaner production. Is there anyone that Clinton Sparks hasn’t worked with in the realm of killer pop and urban music? The Grammy-nominated producer, mixtape master, and DJ has already been able to add names such as Kanye West, Beyoncé, Pharrell, Ludacris, Fall Out Boy, Puff Daddy and Trey Songz to his packed resume.The only thing left to check off is for the critically lauded pioneer to go solo, which he’s already got in the bag: Sparks is releasing the EP ICONoclast next month, which will showcase his wildly diverse range of influences and include collaborations from A-listers like 2 Chainz, Macklemore, Snoop Dogg, and T-Pain. Clinton Sparks has been quietly lately, but that doesn’t mean he’s not working hard. He’s been busy touring and prepping his forthcoming “Disco Ball & Chain” EP that’s rumored to have names on it like Snoop Dogg, 2-Chainz, T-Pain. Releasing on Island Def Jam / Photo Finish, “Disco Ball & Chain” is a project we can’t wait to hear. This afternoon, Clinton put his trap spin on Aloe Blacc’s The Man” to tide fans over until the big drop date. And yes, that’ s a young Clinton Sparks in his gentleman’s jacket looking like he’s about to deliver the news. As always, GET FAMILIAR!

Just as we all started to feel that ”Animals” should be deleted (or at least reduced to one play per night) from the playlists in mainstream night clubs, Martin Garrix dropped his latest track, ”Wizard”. Yes, we all loved ”Animals;” I personally discovered it with great ecstacy, but creating a drop that sounds like the ”Animals” drop played backwards and adding a slightly different melody to it, doesn’t make a new world hit.
Sticking to a personal sound is a good thing, don’t get me wrong. Garrix did more than well with the ”Project T” remix. He sealed it with the big G without spelling out the whole name. But Wizard just feels like the easiest way out, using already proven tricks. If it wasn’t for him to be such a damn cute Dutch prodigy (Is it possible for a 20 year old to adopt a 17 year old? Anyone?) I would be much more disappointed. He has already shown that he has what it takes, so I’ll just look past this little ”Wizard” mishap.
If you for some reason still can’t get enough of ”Animals”, but feel like you need to move on (I mean it’s been 4 months since the official release. It’s been ”Animals” everyday. Everywhere. For 4 months), I suggest the Rasmus Hedegaard remix/mashup ”Still Animals”. This trap producing Dane knows his mixes (Had to make a little room for my Scandinavian neighbors in my post, it’s just a tiny bridge between my home town and Denmark – fun facts). Daring enough to take on the world’s most loved tracks, he played matchmaker between Garrix and Dr. Dre, and I believe they make a beautiful couple. Listen below and see what I mean.

With shark week in full effect, Brooklyn producer Harry Fraud’s protege Adrian Lau just dropped an ill track “X Generation.” Lau murks it over Fraud’s grungy industrial beat. If you’re not up to date with what Fraud and his movement have been up to, they recently signed a label deal with the re birthed legendary hip hop label Priority Records, home of NWA, Dr Dre, and Snoop Dogg. The name of the label is Surf School Records and there is talk that Adrian will be the first artist to sign. Look out for more music from this tandem very soon! Must listen and must download!

Events | Ultra Music Festival Phase 2 Lineup Announced

In case you missed it over the weekend, after announcing the first phase, Ultra announced the phase 2 lineup of the talent laden festival, adding 100s of names to its ridiculous bill. So imagine just about every Dj ever minus Daft Punk and add Snoop Dogg (Lion?). That is what Ultra is looking like this year with 100s of artists lined up over 7 stages over 2 weekends with Winter Music Conference packed in the middle. There is something for everybody here at Ultra. I could start listing them off, but it is pointless because everybody is there, so just check it out below to see the daily schedule for each stage and start the UMF countdown with 46 days left until Friday weekend one. Phase 3 will come shortly with Toolroom Knights and John Digweed’s Bedrock Records, so house fans be on the lookout for that.
