Progressive House | Mikky Ekko – Kids (The Chainsmokers Remix)

Mikky Ekko - Kids (The Chainsmokers Remix)

I met one of the members of The Chainsmokers for the first time the other day and was shocked to learn they weren’t moonlighting as professional oil wrestlers in their spare time. They do breed Golden Retrievers and Alex is single ladies, so wink wink, golden retrievers and a very eligible touring bachelor DJ? Hop on that right now (full disclosure I do not know if they breed golden retrievers). One thing I do know for certain because it is right in front of me is that they recently did a remix for Mikky Ekko’s “Kids” and it is the moving progressive house we have come to expect from them. Grab is for free from the giving producers, and maybe they will give you a puppy (probably not).

The producer that is Worthy released his two track EP today on Anabatic Records, and he calls this Booty Future House. I’m not sure I know what it is, but one thing’s for sure it’s different, and it will get you moving. I’m all about supporting producers who are always pushing the boundaries, and Worthy is one of them, gaining support from acts like Diplo, Boyz Noise, and Cats N’ Dogs. If you’re trying to trip tonight, and expand your musical knowledge, cop these two tracks off Beatport, and give these two gems a listen!

How many artists / producers can count Jay Z, Snoop Dogg and Pharrell as fans? Chase & Status. They just dropped some crazy sounding songs, both respectively different but equally as good. I’m a fan of both.

Events, Exclusive | Countdown to ADE Spotlight: Rustie

Posted by on October 16, 2013

Tomorrow, Fresh New Tracks will be jetting off to the Netherlands for ADE: Amsterdam Dance Event, a five-day electronic music festival, conference, and playground taking over the city. Leading up to ADE, we’ll be filling you in on just who and what we’re looking forward to seeing most. And if any of you out there have any insider tips on the best acts to catch, drop either VMan or myself a line and we’ll be sure to add it to our list.

Name: Rustie
Born: January 4th, 1983 (30)
Homebase: Glasgow
Previous Occupations: Apprentice park keeper and tractor operator (source)
Latest Release: “Triadzz / Slasherr”

I’m ashamed to admit producer Rustie really only entered my radar within the past 6 months after falling head over heels in love with the Flume remix of “Slasherr” and consequently the EP’s other half, “Triadzz.” Since then I’ve diving further into his discography, specifically his album, Glass Swords, which was recognized by the Guardian for their first album award in 2012.You might have also noticed his contribution to Danny Brown’s latest game-changing album, “Old.”

The beginning of Rustie’s electronic career could be described as “aquacrunk,” but has since continuously evolved through various artistic styles and trends, while staying true to it’s hip-hop, 8-bit, and grunge roots. It’s dynamic, spontaneous, and unpredictable, which makes it much more of a rewarding listening experience. Even after having his works on repeat for the past few days, I have no idea what to expect in his live set – I mean, other than potentially a guitar? – nevertheless, the anticipation is killing me.

So, if you can’t make it across the pond to Amsterdam this weekend, I’ve got a solution for you. During his set at the Numbers x Lockdown Showcase at Paradiso on Friday, take an hour or two (considering the event lasts for 6!) to dive into some of his stuff. I’ll leave his legendary BBC 1 mix here for you in case you need a starting point…

Progressive House | Mako – Our Story

Quite honestly, there is a lot of house music these days that feels shallow and empty. That is definitely not the impression one gets after listening to Mako’s latest original “Our Story”. It’s nice to hear music that feels like it was made by actual musicians instead of people who have been playing around in Logic or FL Studio for a few months and are aware of the simple formula that is progressive house. Mako is what this genre needs and it’s a shame there’s not many more producers like them. I really can’t say enough good things about these guys so I suggest you just take a listen. “Our Story” is Mako’s best work so far and an all around great progressive house track.

Electronic, Hip-Hop | Mike Philson Ft. Dre Martie, Ernie Gaines, Marcus Miller, & Pa_triot – To The Moon

The Major Motion Picture Group lead by Mike Philson sent over this house infused hip-hop tune, “To The Moon,” they recorded at Stadium Red Studios in NYC. As you can tell by the long list of collaborators, this project was passed around to different producers whom added their touch, ending with a saxophone line to smooth up the landing. I’ve had this track on repeat all morning, it’s catchy as hell; Mike Philson delivers with the flow. Good work, look forward to hearing more from these guys. Must listen and support by copping this tune on iTunes!
