Dubstep | The Roots ft. Monsters of Folk – Dear God 2.0 (Zeds Dead Remix)
Posted by Spice on February 27, 2012
Zeds Dead has been killing the remix game lately. Their latest, a chilled out dubstep reboot of “Dear God 2.0” by The Roots and Monsters of Folk, is a perfect Monday night listen. The original version of this song is absolutely beautiful, but the dark, moody synths and heavy bass definitely bring out the intensity of the plaintive vocals. Preview and download below.
Dubstep | R Rated #15

Such a sick tune from Trolley Snatcha set to release on his upcoming Subtext EP on 2/13 . There are so many unreleased bangers floating around that need to be heard so I decided to preview some of my top favorites today. This first one High Rankin just put up only a few hours ago, but I already need this track. The build up combining with Nadia Ali’s vocals gives me goosebumps. This is definitely the best remix to this song I have heard ranging through all the genres. Australian native Filth Collins previewed this tune about three months ago and is set to release this month, but no exact date yet. This is a jump-up dubstep banger that is going to be rinsed out at a lot of shows once more producers start noticing it. For this last preview we have Bro Safari stepping out of his Moombahton comfort zone and dabbling with a dubstep remix that turned out to be a beat of a remix.

Dubstep, Electro, Review | Nick Thayer – Like Boom EP
Posted by Spice on February 8, 2012
When OWSLA releases something new, you pay attention. Recent EPs from OWSLA-affiliated artists Kill the Noise and KOAN Sound have represented some of the most innovative efforts in EDM to date, and no one can deny the growing firepower behind young guns Zedd and Porter Robinson. So when Nick Thayer’s newest EP “Like Boom” dropped under the imprint yesterday, I knew that it would be worth a listen.
Nick Thayer is an Australian producer with a marked talent for weaving together elements of different genres — this latest EP mines hip-hop, dubstep, electro house, progressive house, moombahton and drum and bass to tremendous effect. While I had never heard of him before, I was immediately impressed by his versatility and obvious skill. Opening with some unexpected funked-out hip-hop (“Like Boom”), the EP veers quicky into heavy electro domain with “Facepalm,” which has a gritty, almost rock-inspired edge. “Totalitaria,” with its laser synths and more languorous tempo, is practically in moombahcore territory, while “What Props Ya Got” will ratchet up your heart rate with some truly frenetic DnB runs (before easing into a catchy, house-inflected hook). On the whole, “Like Boom” is an explosive and boundary-blurring listen which shows that Nick Thayer is less interested in the rules than he is in charting new territory.

Freestyle, Hip-Hop, Videos | Locksmith & Wale

Immortal Technique? No, but sounds almost exactly the same, even his style matches up. Illuminati is the first preview for Locksmith’s upcoming project, Labyrinth, set to drop this March. His name might be Locksmith, but I think they should call him wordsmith for how devastating his verses are on this track.
Going off on an A$AP Rocky single, is Wale with a smooth versed freestyle. He comes in quick after the voice samples keeping it tight to the beat, doing a great job maintaining the vibe of the instrumental. Wale is rapping about going hard…are you surprised?

Albums, Progressive House | Moguai – Mpire

Doing a repeat run on Deadmau5’s label mau5trap, German born producer Moguai hits us with electronic dance music gold. This album really embodies a mix of sub-genres within EDM: Progressive House fans will find solace in the melodies of “Heimaterde” and “Dynamo”, Electro House junkies will love the driving beats of “Started” and “Hush Hush”, and “Neo” just brings the straight techno heat. There are 14 tracks on this release and not one of them is lackluster in terms of production quality, so do yourself a massive favor and cop this on Beatport. MUST DL Status, so preview below.

Electro-House | Chuckie – Together

Chuckie unleashing all chainsaw electro hell on his latest release Together. I have been patiently waiting for this track to release ever since I heard its preview up on Soundcloud. Chuckie brings the madness with the chain saw electro sound, but at the same time keeps his synth build ups present through the track. You can’t help yourself, but to want to dance your a** off through this banger. Get this track on Beatport HERE

Michael Brun is ready for a huge 2012; coming off of a successful 2011 with the incredibly successful single “Dawn”, that was championed by Hardwell (He did an edit of it) and supported by many other big time Djs. Previewing this remix of the hit single “Animal” from Neon Trees, Michael Brun will be giving this amazing remix out for free on February 1st; a week from today as a token of gratitude for all the support he has been getting.
