Dubstep, Hip-Hop | Gramatik ft. Jay Fresh- Solidified

Posted by on April 3, 2012

Dallas’s lone hip-hop prodigy, Jay Fresh, is back at it again. This time, he’s teamed up with Pretty Lights artist Grammatik to bring the undeniable heat. Inspired by a recent green room jam session, “Solidified” is a product of the incontrovertible chemistry between both of the artists.

Not to be outdone, Gramatik recently dropped a brand new six song EP entitled “#digitalfreedom” through Pretty Lights Music. Predicated on the idea that thoughts, freedom of speech, and online creativity can’t be suppressed, the project is undoubtedly a testament to that creed. As a bonus, I’ve included a download link to the entire project. All hail #digitalfreedom!

Dubstep | Featured Artist: Haywyre

Posted by on March 29, 2012

Martin Vogt aka Haywyre, has been studying piano since the age of six. His interest in the production of hip-hop, dubstep and electronica began when he lived in Austria. Shortly after moving back to the United States, in 2008, Haywyre was created. Since then he has released four albums, The Voyage being most recent. His inspiration comes from artists such as Opiuo, Noisia, Break, STS9, Pretty Lights, Flying Lotus, Freddy Todd, Trentemoller, Patrick O’Hearn, Kraak & Smaak, Phillip Glass and more. His music production is made possible with FL Studio, Ableton Live, an AKAI MPK 88 midi keyboard, and an Edirol UA-101 Audio Interface.

Haywyre is 19 years old and currently studies Music Business in Minneapolis, MN. This summer he will be performing a few shows in Wisconsin with his friend Mindspyk. Although his future releases have no official dates set yet, he did tell me he has a few EPs lined up with several different labels, including a ‘pay what you want’ release on bandcamp.

The first track on here is an incredible Glitch-Hop preview that Haywyre just uploaded the other day. The track is full of raw energy, his electrified synths really take off with your imagination. Can’t wait to hear when this one will get released.

Released the same day as the preview for ‘Raw Crunch,’ ‘But Now You Say’ is an old dubstep track of Haywyre’s. Old to him, but new to us, the track makes me think of a blend of Pretty Lights and Bassnectar, if they ever joined forces to do a track. It has the mellow, Indie electronic vibes of Pretty Lights, with the deep, smooth bassline like Bassnectar. A must have in my opinion.

The last set of tracks on here are from Haywyre’s most recent EP release, ‘Encompassing.’ Having obtained the EP myself, I really enjoyed both tracks. ‘The Observer’ is a melodic Glitch-Hop track, where as ‘Mono Nova’ is a smooth, but dirty dubstep track.

“The title is based on the assumption that the ‘Waking Life’ reality encompasses our ‘Dreaming Life’ reality. This is symbolized by the two, stonehenge-like structures. Very much so inspired (surprise surprise) by the movie The Waking Life.”

– Haywyre

DO SOMETHING

Electro | Primitive Radio Gods – Phone Booth (Manic Focus Remix)

Posted by on January 30, 2012

I really hate comparing some artists styles to Pretty Lights, he’s not the first to do it, just the first to get famous. Well Manic Focus has that Pretty Lights style, but has tapped into its areas that Pretty Lights hasn’t seemed to ventured. This chill remix of the classic rock song, Phone Booth, sounds great. Those who know the original know you don’t want to get too crazy with synths, for it would ruin the feel of the track. Manic Focus did just that, keeping the laid back vibe the original provided with a little bit of a twist. We end up with this amazing, artistic remix.

Hip-Hop | Pretty Lights – We Must Go On

Posted by on January 26, 2012

Didn’t think this was going to be the next single from Pretty Lights, but I wont complain. Pretty Lights has this track labeled as Hip-Hop Soul, and you can definitely feel that vibe. I can only imagine what some of you are going to say in the chatbox, “That’s not hip-hop,” but what you don’t realize is that hip-hop is not defined by having raps. Although, I would really like to see some rappers do covers of it. This track is just more proof of Pretty Lights’ musical genius. Kick back, light one up, and enjoy.

Dubstep, Electro | Robotic Pirate Monkey – Colors In Disguise (Free Album)

Posted by on December 5, 2011

This isn’t the first time I have posted a full masterpiece from Robotic Pirate Monkey, but it might be the first one that people actually catch on to. We posted up the crazy woods murder music video of Party Animal a few weeks ago. Since then I have been patiently waiting for this release. Robotic Pirate Monkey dropped this just a few hours ago on their website and not a second too soon. Pretty Lights style has been utilized by many different artists over the past year, but only Robotic Pirate Monkey seems to stand out as the most creative, especially with this album. Every track on here is a musical masterpiece. If you like Pretty Lights you are going to LOVE this.

Electro, Pop | I.O.U. – Scarlet Nights

Posted by on October 29, 2011

Our friends I.O.U. have been busy on the road lately, opening for the likes of Far East Movement and Kid Cudi, but they recently dropped this dope party track. With samples from Black Eyed Peas, Pretty Lights, and Etta James, the duo flexes their electro-pop muscles in this anthem for Rutgers University. Show I.O.U. some support by liking them on Facebook, and if you’re in the New York/New Jersey area take a second to vote for them to preform at Z100’s Jingle Ball.
