Hip-Hop | Detox Clip and Kinetics & One Love | Hip-Hop

Posted by on May 7, 2011

Well, Detox obviously didn’t drop on 4/20 haha. This new preview though is pretty sweet. No official release date yet on the new album.

While everyone is going crazy for the new office theme remix, I have been bumping out to this track the past few days thinking it was old. My bad. Kinetics & One Love are revolutionaries in the music world in my opinion, their style is insanely different from many others out there. This track has some sick vocals and raps of course, but on this the added in a sick dubby bassline.

Hip-Hop, Mixtapes | HIP-HOP | Curren$y’s “Return To The Winner’s Circle”

Posted by on January 2, 2011

I wanted to run through this entire mixtape before covering it on FNT. There aren’t any surprises here (unfortunately), just basically what you’d expect from a vet in the game with an album around the corner: solid production with the usual Curren$y chill rap flair. “Return To the Winner’s Circle” is a solid piece of work but I’m still waiting for Curren$y to create a “breakthrough” project – one that really accelerates his career from his current standing. Although he’s holding onto the music world with a strong grip with notable accolades that range from him being a former Young Money artist (you do still remember that song he did with Lil Wayne “Where Da Cash At” , right?), to his 150k+ fans on twitter, I still don’t consider him a huge force in the game. He’s armed with a unique sound and voice, which he utilizes well with smart lyrics, but he’s moving more laterally than he is vertically it seems. Lets put it this way, I’d be nervous to have him headline a show. Anyways, I’ve posted my favorite cuts below… Abridged version: To me this mixtape is more of a buzz maintainer than producer, something to hold us over until he drops his next album.

Curren$y (feat. Big K.R.I.T. & Killa Kyleon) – Moon & Stars (Remix)

Curren$y – Rain Delay

Curren$y – Role Model

Electro | INDIE ELECTRO POP | Atypicals and Breakbot

Posted by on December 22, 2010

At times our music world seems over run by computer generated sounds that leave little room for raw talent. The purists throw fits while the enthusiasts encourage the growth and development of new sounds, genres, sub-genres, etc. I fall somewhere in the middle, which is why the “Atypicals” piqued my interest. My iTunes library has been long overdue for a new group that utilizes learned instrumental talents to create their works – Ryan Leslie like artists if you will. This Brooklyn based group sports three members who can put on impressive live “band” performances that somehow bring a house dance sound to their speakers. If you’re searching for something refreshingly new, give these guys an ear and be sure to leave your opinion in the comments section of chatbox. For more information check out their Facebook, Twitter or group website.

Videos | Mac Miller, Jacking Beats?

Posted by on September 10, 2010

I just peeped this over at Barstool. What up El Pres? It seems that Mac Miller didn’t credit Up North production on “La La La”. In the music world, you’ve got to give credit where credit is due. If I were those producers, I would have handled it differently though. I gather three things from this situation. One, it makes Mac Miller’s management look incompetent. I mean common, how hard is it to make sure that the producers are credited on the album art? That’s like writing a term paper and not citing your sources. Of course your professor is going to call you out. Up North claims that tried multiple times to contact to him but had no luck. Secondly, it looks bad on Mac Miller to blatantly lie. The e-mails don’t lie. It was clear from the video that Mac Miller knowingly received the track. There’s no disputing that. Third, the producers also look bad. Chasing him down with a video camera looks desperate at best. Even though I’ve never even heard of these guys, they still deserved the credit. This is Fresh New Tracks telling you, everyone lost in this situation. Hit the jump to see who I think Mac needs to hire to do his PR.
