Albums | Young Money Yawn – Lost Scriptures (Mixtapes)
Posted by admin on March 4, 2014
The DMV has made quite a statement recently with new talent springing up right and left. The influx of new musicians to watch certainly doesn’t stop with Young Money Yawn. The 20 year old emcee takes on a more “street” side of Virginia, and speaks about his come up over a variety of different production styles.
Those who follow the DMV hip-hop scene closely might recognize the Board of Administration’s, Black Cobaine feature, amongst others. The tape is packed with eighteen original songs as well as a few bonus tracks, and aside from the speaking interludes getting a bit repetitive, the project is a very strong body of work. Hip-Hop, Review, Videos | Reflecting on Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ “The Heist” [Review & Documentary]

First off, thank you to Jabari Presents for this fantastic production.
By now, many of you have hopefully scraped the wax out of your ears and christened your drums to the incredible art featured on Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ debut LP, The Heist. Yes it reached the #2 spot on Billboard, yes it sold 78,000+ units in week one, and yes the duo accomplished this all independently, but that is not why this project is so special to me and so many others. Mack and Ryan are still the kids you used to play neighborhood ball with. They’re still the guys who will shake your hand or take a picture with any fan on the street. They’re still representing authenticity for the people.
“The Heist” will be in consideration for the album of the year come December, that’s without question. What may fly under the radar is the amount of blood, sweat, tears, and man hours that went into this project by both Mack and Ryan. Lacking anything but determination and perseverance, this documentary shines light on what it means to be an independent artist working at such an eminent level. There are no handouts, no pampering, no CEO black cards. Loyalty, love, determination, resilience and passion for the art is the driver. If you are unable to see the transparency in their music, this album may not hold the same weight, but there is enough versatility on the project that you should still be able to connect with one or two records. On a final note, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis will forever hold my respect. Although I’ve never met them personally, their music is honest, open and genuine enough to lead me to believe otherwise.
Below I’ve listed some of my personal highlights if you haven’t listened to the album and need a starting point. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the album, positive or negative, so please sound off in the comments section.
Most Creative Beat: “Thrift Shop”

I was granted the opportunity to see Pendulum and Innerpartysystem perform a few weeks back (shout outs to Matt for the amazing tickets). Both artists blew me away. Innerpartysystem definitely knows how to keep the crowd going.
Porter Robinson’s remix of their track, “American Trash” is an absolute banger. I’m really hoping he drops it at the Skrillex concert on Friday. For all of you who live in the New York City area and purchased tickets for this sold out show–I’ll see you there!

Mustard Pimp plans to work with artists such as Skrillex, Atari Teenage Riot, Blatta & Inesha on their forthcoming debut album, No Title or Purpose. The group’s first single, entitled “Money Shot,” will interestingly feature Jimmy Urine, of Mindless Self Indulgence. Although this track is set for release on March 1st, you can listen to the Doc Trashz remix of it, below.

Birdman is probably the gaudiest rapper to walk the earth…. but maybe I’m just mad cause this puts my $50 bet to shame. Whats up with Young Money being all for Green Bay now? Anyway this song has to be one of the best things I’ve heard from 50 in a long time. The hard lyrics really remind me of that old 50 that we know and loved. What do you guys think?
50 Cent – When It All Goes Down Freestyle
I’m really liking K.O. Kid’s flow on this track. If you want to hear more, download his mixtape for free here.
