Ahhh shit, Party Favor just dropped his high energy remix of Major Lazer’s “Bumaye,” even wilder than the original, and it’s about to be a problem. Already getting support from Twerk Gods DJ Snake and Diplo, debuted on his guest mix on D!RTY AUD!O last week, and just released yesterday on SoundCloud with already 14,000 plays, you’re wasting time not hopping on this one quick! Seeing the rise of this young producer in just a few short months, there’s no doubt in my mind that Party Favor will have a phenomenal year. This is a must listen!

Top 50 dance tracks of 2013

Yes we know, you may be “top _____ of 2013” listed out, but bear with us as we present you our top 50 dance tracks of 2013. In the past we have done just big room / progressive, but here we attempt to take on the whole genre, from trap to progressive to deep house. A few ground rules and biases for how these tracks were selected. “Top” means biggest and best. So the most supported and played out tracks, first and foremost, but also our own bias as well to make this list not just a carbon copy of every other one you have read. All of us are based in the US / Canada, so our perception of what is played live is a largely US worldview, though we try and take a step back. The songs have to have been released in 2013. So tracks like “Easy”, “I Could Be The One”, “Alive”, “Clarity” and “Harlem Shake”, while all huge in 2013, won’t qualify for the list because they were released in 2012. Tough luck, but I think the artists will manage. Check out 50-41 after the jump and at the end find links for 40-31, 30-21, 20-11 and the best of the best, 10-1.

YOU ALREADY KNOW WHAT IT IS.

All the music that I listened to throughout the last 12 months enough to make me sick but somehow didn’t. The fields of music brought a bountiful yield in 2013 which allowed listeners like me to tune into more genres and artists than I could ever imagine. In order to cover all my necessary bases, I’ve drafted quite a comprehensive list (or two) missing prety much only anything Jennifer Lawrence related although if all the things she said this year were songs then they would 100% have made it on my list as well.

So, let the countdown, BEGIN!

Electro | Sampology & DJ Butcher feat. Beenie Man – Dancehall Queen (Akouo Remix)

Posted by on November 11, 2013

Following the success of his previous FNT appearance, Tasmanian producer Akouo is back with another genre-defying remix. For those who haven’t heard, “Dancehall Queen” is this ridiculously turnt, Major Lazer-esque club reggae banger from Brisbane-based producers Sampology and DJ Butcher. There must be something in the water down under because I cannot keep up with all the talent Australia is turning out right now… Anyways, Akouo puts a darker, steadier, and more electro sounding spin on the original track, creating a more contrasting yet equally addicting remix. Check out the full remix EP on iTunes, featuring notable contributions from Artis and Tyler Touche, as well.

Electro-House | Dada Life – Boing Clash Boom (Remixes)

Posted by on June 5, 2013

Dada Life – Boing Clash Boom (Remixes)Dada Life‘s album “The Rules Of Dada” has already seen remixes from the likes of Tiesto and Dillon Francis, and now can add the Bingo Players, Major Lazer and Pierce Fulton to the list. While the two bigger names are somewhat expected and add their own unique character to the track, Pierce Fulton should be no surprise, since he recently was a performer at the Dada Life compound in San Francisco a few weeks ago. It is cool to see Pierce getting picked up for such high profile remixes, he deserves it.

The remixes are all quite different and each brings something unique from each other and from the original. Major Lazer go for a slower trapped out stylistic change, while Pierce adds his own chunky bass line in place of the traditional Dada Life electro drop, and the Bingo Players add a jarring acid fueled drop that takes a little while to get used to, but really works in the context of the song. If you are in NYC this weekend, Pierce is turning 21 on Saturday, so come to Lavo and get weird with him as Pierce has his first drink ever and potentially shotguns a beer with you after the show. Get tickets here.
