Albums, Hip-Hop, Pop | Shwayze & Cisco – Over & Over ft. Kendrick Lamar & Sophie Stern

Shwayze & Cisco have had one scorching summer. From Shwayze’s first major hit, “Love Letter”, which featured The Cataracs, to some of their smaller scale beachy beats such as “Summertime Music” and “You Could Be My Girl”, Shwayze & Cisco have innovated nothing short of the best ‘summertime music’.  With their very chilling album, “Island In The Sun” which hit shelves Tuesday, I realized there are not many duos who are capable of creating a similar sound.  The only real exception being Radical Something, who also had a very successful summer, breaking out of the gates with some very zesty tunes.  But really, when the suns out, Shwayze & Cisco belong in the speakers.

I haven’t had a chance to listen to the album through fully yet, but from the half I’ve heard, this track could very well be my favorite. I can’t say I expected to see Kendrick Lamar as one of the few features on this project, but after hearing it, I couldn’t be happier with the decision.  The first time I’ve heard K. Dot over this time of beat and the first time I realized how versatile he really is.

Hip-Hop | Prince Ea – Backwards Rappers

“I’M SO TIRED OF RAPPERS TALKING ABOUT BULLSH*T ON THE RADIO!! IT REALLY PISSES ME THE FU*K OFF. I MADE THIS VIDEO TO HOPEFULLY GET THROUGH TO SOME OF THEM…..

Shouts out to De Storm, NAS’s Rewind, Lost Generation, The dude who wrote Bars from Sumer, and all others who came before :)”- Prince Ea

Although this video has quietly been going viral for approximately a month now, I still felt it was necessary to share with anyone who has yet to see and/or hear it.  It’s not everyday we come across an artist like Prince Ea.  Creative, thought provoking, clever, honest, are just a few words that can describe his music.  The 22-year old St. Lunatic native has received some serious publicity with the release of this track and video, representing the opposing end of the hip-hop spectrum we’re so accustomed to hearing, making “smart cool”.  Prince Ea shares his opinion on all the “backwards rappers” in the industry nowadays and how behind the champagne, catchy hooks, drugs, etc. is knowledge and potential.  Books > Hooks.
