Hip-Hop | Knokz – Walkin On The Moon x Kush & Pain

Posted by on August 12, 2011

According to his bio, Massachussetts native Knokz, has always had a passion for music. His mother and grandmother were singers who introduced him to the art at a very young age. The style of music that Knokz creates is a variation of Hip Hop, Pop to Indie Rock. What I really like about Knokz is the sense of “realness” to his rhymes and subject matter.

Hip-Hop | Outasight – Setting Sun

Posted by on August 11, 2011

I’m reverting back to my mellow hip hop with Outasight, who came out with Figure 8. After that, I was hooked like a fish. The beat of “Setting Sun”  is “groovy,” and its been, like what, 30 years since people used that adjective? Basically it couldn’t harsh anyone’s mellow as it documents how the hours of a day go by so quickly. “Setting Sun” was released for Outasight’s 10,000th fan on facebook. With the production of Setting Sun and Figure 8 I assume an album is on the horizon. Fingers Crossed!

Hip-Hop | ZAK! Downtown – Poppin’ Pills (Music Video)

Posted by on August 10, 2011

Hip Hop songs heavily reliant on a sample in the chorus are all the rage these days. Why not? It works and we can’t help but eat it up. Take ZAK! Downtown’s latest single “Poppin’ Pills” off his last mixtape Stuck To The Sidewalk for example. You are hooked on the song the instant it starts mainly because of the perfectly flipped sample. It doesn’t stop there though as the feel good guitar riff throughout the song solidifies it as a hit. I expect this to be the biggest release from ZAK! yet.

You can download ZAK! Downtown’s Stuck To The Sidewalk from his Facebook. Also, be on the look out for a 10 track mixtape from him composed of all original tracks coming early September.

Hip-Hop, Videos | PropaneLV – Weeknd Romance (Video)

Posted by on August 2, 2011

Truthfully, I am surprised that The Weeknd hasn’t been remixed and sampled that much given the amount of hype surrounding him. I am sure that will be change very soon, actually I am quite certain that it will. Producer Chi Duly has an upcoming project coming out titled Balloons of House that will feature uptempo remixes of The Weeknd, one of which will be this remix of The Weeknd’s “The Party.”

Chi Duly also further chopped up the instrumental and gave it to PropaneLV to make a Hip Hop rendition of the remix. The hot girl in the video alone makes this song worth posting but the song is pretty sick as well. It also serves as a great introduction to PropaneLV who I can tell just from this that he is a dope emcee. He also happens to be quite the comedian on Twitter and extremely excited that Shark Week is back (check out his parody video of Meek Mill’s “Tupac Back” titled “Shark Week Back” here).

With the release of Cole World: The Sideline Story creeping up on us, J. Cole just delivered some big news. In an effort to promote the album, Cole will be releasing some new material every Sunday. For the first week J. Cole released a 5 track EP, but before you jump out of your chair with excitement let me remind you that you may have heard a few of these tracks before. Nonetheless this is a treat and a tease for all hip-hop fans. Below is some commentary from the man himself. Cole World, September 27th.

Hip-Hop | Grieves – Against The Bottom

Posted by on July 31, 2011

You know what I like about this guy? He doesn’t rap for the girls, he raps for himself. Sure, the video might include a hot girl or two (definitely not three that’s for sure) but you still catch him running down the street three guys deep in a flannel and skinny jeans. There’s something to be said for that – this is exactly what I mean about visuals providing that extra insight that heightens your understanding and appreciation for the music. Ben aka Grieves delivers real hip hop. Originally born in Chicago, Grieves later moved to a few other locations, providing him with a multitude of influences including the alternative sound he blends in with his rap. It reminds me a little of the lost art that fellow Chi-town artist, Rhymefest, tends to bring to the table (ps. do yourself a favor and watch Rhymefest “One Hand Pushup” video after the jump aka click MORE bc its gnarly). Maybe he’s more like Em in Stan, you be the judge…Take a leap of faith and give Grieves an ear.

This track got the ultimate flip job sporting influences from electro, hip hop, mashup and a little dubstep. Who would have guessed Wiz and Tupac could sound so perfect on the same track? Don’t let the Voodoo Farm name tag scare you, this is undoubtedly worth a listen.
