Chill, Drum & Bass, Dubstep | Fractal – Spection EP

Posted by on January 20, 2014

Fractal’s new two track EP called “Spection” is pretty impressive. He shows skill in two different genres, first drumstep in “Spection” and then chill/ambient in “Mountain Hunter”. Both tracks are excellent. “Spection” is fast, fun and full of growls. Definitely a head bobber. “Mountain Hunter” is mellow, eerie, and even though chill isn’t a genre that Fractal frequents, it was a pleasant surprise to see it done so well. This EP is worth checking out for sure.

Compilation | Dshaq’s Top Tracks of 2013

2013 came to an end with a lot of great music being produced in the second half of the year, where most of my focus was with a lot of my tracks for the list. Being the very indecisive person I am, I decided to create more of a playlist of downloadable/non-downloadable tracks. With a wide variety of tracks in the playlist, I think it covers some of the brightest up and coming stars in each respective genre mixed with Portugal. The Man, who’s Evil Friends album was my personal choice of best album of the year. Besides the indie/alternative band, my focus for my list was with the two Chicago rappers that I have watched blow up over the past year in Chance the Rapper and Vic Mensa. Besides the two young SaveMoney stars, I began dabbling with the new and bountiful amounts of Australian producers making a name for themselves, with Flume at the forefront of that. A hard to describe genre that combines so many different complex and interesting sounds that mesh together beautifully is pretty much my best attempt at describing it. Wave Racer has to take my favorite artist of 2013 with almost every single one of his remixes and original productions getting constant playtime on my iTunes. Be on the lookout for a new What’s in Dshaq’s tape deck soon. Cheers to 2013 and hope everyone has a great 2014.

Electronic, House | Uppermost – Reminder

It appears as though I, Mel, am going to be providing you guys with FNT’s first post of the year. This is a big honour because, well, first off, nobody else wanted to do it. Don’t worry though everyone, I was here for you and jumped at the opportunity when I realized I was pretty bored and really had nothing else to do.

The song that will be ringing in the new year here at FNT is provided by Frenchman Uppermost. “Reminder” is a french house track infused with some nu disco vibes. It features a funky guitar as well as nicely done vocal chops. Well, I have met and some might even say surpassed my quota of talking about the song at three sentences so I will just leave it at that. Uppermost is an outstanding producer and if you like this track there is plenty more on his Soundcloud.

DO SOMETHING

Progressive House | Avicii – You Make Me (Throttle Remix)

Avicii - You Make Me (Throttle Remix)
The second single from Avicii’s genre-melding and record breaking album “True”, “You Make Me” gets a remix from Aussie producer, Throttle. Known for his novation launch pad videos, Throttle has also developed a unique skill as a producer that caught the ear of the Avicii camp and landed him a coveted spot as an official remixer for “You Make Me”. He adds his bright, cheery synths to the track, remaking the upbeat pop / dance / country cross-over into a nu-disco tinged dance track that is hard to dislike. Also included on Beatport is the extended version of the track for all of you DJs out there.

Progressive House, Trance | Artificial – Prototype

artificialAndrew Bayer, the maker of my favorite album of the year, “If It Were You, We’d Never Leave” has teamed up with fellow Anjunabeats members, Norin & Rad to form the duo Artificial. The US branch of the Anjunabeats family, the three of these producers have always looked to push the traditional boundaries of genre, and they continue that trend here. The track combines the upbeat complexity we see in Andrew Bayer’s clubbier selections, with the melodic abilities seen in Norin & Rad’s tunes. It is the perfect storm of their talents.

Drum & Bass, Glitch | Upscale Recordings – The Collective EP (Ft. Evoke, Frequent, Masq, Audeka, Paurini, & Spectric)

Upscale Recordings - The Collective EPDamn, the sub-label of Adapted Records, Upscale Recordings with the goal of sharing strictly Neuro-Hop (Blend of Glitch-Hop and Neuro-Funk AKA Drum & Bass), drops this dirty EP of some of the top up and comers in the newly rising twisted genre. The EP kicks off with an original from Evoke. Carrying the title of the EP, “The Collective” thumps in smoothly, only to progress into that deliciously glitched out funk. Next, Spectric remixes Evoke’s original, adding a few more layers to the mix of the glitch to take you on deep stroll of bass. A commoner on FNT with his Neuro/Trap blends, Masq teams up with Frequent. Their collaboration “Firescape” starts out with a calm, slightly glitchy melodic euphoria, leaving you bumping out at a deep multi-bass layered drop. A larger name and personal favorite of Neuro-hop, come Audeka with a funky remix of Dino Safari’s Breakspeed. This remix has to be my favorite on the EP, I love how deep the bass on this track is and how it maintains the funk with the chill throughout it. Something that KOAN Sound and Asa introduced to the majority of the population on their most recent collaboration EP. Last, but certainly not least, Paurini introduces himself with a chilling original, “Lumberjack”. Paurini is a new name for me, and after hearing this original, I’m blown away. I suspect this is just the beginning of his epic Neuro journey. Neuro-Hop is a genre on the rise, while Dubstep introduces new artists by the minute and becomes more and more repetitive by the minute. “The Collective” EP is a must have, and count on Upscale recordings to introduce countless more great tracks in the future.

Don’t get me wrong – I love how electronic music has been evolving recently; but this remix from Vendetta is a refreshing genre throwback that will make your head spin (in the best way possible). With a precise mixture of dubstep and drumstep, these San Francisco-based pioneers will leave you craving more of their sound with this completely revamped version of Just a Gent’s “A Song of Fire and Ice.” If you’re a fan of what the boys over at Adventure Club have been doing, then this track is a must listen.
