Introducing Leaf, an extremely talented artist who is one to watch in 2013. The 17-year-old New York native just dropped her debut mixtape entitled Naked & Wasted in which she raps and sings over a selection of Electronic, Trap and Pop productions. She even goes in over Carnage’s incredible remix of “Spaceman”. Some of my favorite tracks off the tape include “Running”, “Spaceman”, “Lie To Me” , “Can’t Say No” and “Wreckless”. “Naked & Wasted stands for Naked Emotions & Wasted Youth. The title is a mock at society and the culture of my generation at the moment. Everyone follows the same trends, music is only taken at face value (& made to sell) and if you don’t break it down for the listener they’ll never take advantage and look deeper then they should. Naked & Wasted is a compilation of electronic music, trap beats and R&B/Pop vocals. Melodies and lyrics written completely by myself it is truly an open diary of my life, how I feel and how I’m sure many others do as well. The mixtape embraces the typical struggle of any human being dwelling on this earth. Though it may dabbles in pop melodies & synthesized beats it is not just another party anthem.” – Leaf

Drum & Bass, Dubstep, Preview | Reso – Tangram Remixed EP

2013 is already turning out to be an awesome year for electronic music in my opinion. Reso has an awesome line up of remixing artists for his upcoming remix EP of his recent EP release “Tangram.” The remix EP features KOAN Sound, Om Unit, Billain, and Doshy. KOAN Sound’s remix is a lot more abstract than I am used to hearing from them. Their remix of “Axion” is a very deep, bassy Drum & Bass track that transitions into a kicked up Midtempo jam. Om Unit has my favorite remix of the whole EP. The way they remixed “Simple Pleasures” creates the emotion that the title is so deserving of. The track is very chill and still with the same deep bass that carries out through all the remixes. Billain made a dirty Neuro-Dubstep remix of “Half Life,” making my ears convulse in the craziest ways. The last remix from Doshy is the only one of the EP that does not have its own clip. Doshy’s remix of “Coronium” is what I would call an abstract take on Trap. Oddly enough the idea works, and Doshy’s remix provides a cool-temperatured finish to the EP. The remix EP is set to release March 11th.

FNT favorite and frequenter Jetpack Jones drops off his longest video to date. Being the fact that it’s quite literally a mini-movie, it spans 7 and a half minutes, but they’re an enjoyable 7 and a half minutes. Jetpack and a few of the homies that will be featuring on Afterburners 3 all star in the movie. The music is on point, my favorite track being the old school sample one that happens after the first encounter with LB, who’s clowning on a statue in King park. Jetpack Jones is the only rapper I know who has been consistently releasing good music for the past two years, and if this is any indication of what his next project will be like, then I can’t wait. House, Preview | Kahwe – Driving Me Wild EP

Wow, this is a pretty big EP for up and coming producer Kahwe. The entire EP is full of deep House goodies, starting with the title track “Driving Me Wild.” The track has a soulful take on the deep and garaged styled House music. The second track “Anything” has that same aspect only with a bit of that 70s and 90s blend of funk. “Anything” is most definitely my favorite of the three, though they are all great sounds. The last track “Yew” is much more laid back than the others, but gives off a warm feeling that you get from having drinks with your friends in a lounge. Kahwe’s new EP “Driving Me Wild” releases February 11th.

House | Funkagenda vs Buena Vista Social Club – Candela

To my surprise, I have discovered that a lot of people actually have never heard of the legendary Buena Vista Social Club. The Cuban band has created some of the most influential Latin music, my favorite of their’s being “Chan Chan.” Funkagenda was roaming through his old files and came across this 3-4 year old gem he never released. The second I hit play, I knew the most factor of this was whether or not Funkagenda screwed up the vocals. Thankfully he did nothing to them and laid them perfectly over the instrumental. It would be interesting to see more Latin infused House tracks like this.

Well, Kap Slap, you did it again. You took all my favorite house tracks and made them that much better. Hat’s off to Kap Slap as usual. His latest project, entitled, “Bootie Bundle Volume 1” (a play on bootleg for those of you who didn’t catch that) might be his best release yet. Not only does the mixtape have 17 brand new tracks, but it features a wide array of genres of EDM tracks; some of his track selection may surprise you…in the best way possible.
