House, Progressive House | Pryda – Rotonda (Preview)

Posted by on June 18, 2013

Eric Prydz - RotundaHaving just released “Layers” yesterday, the melodic master, Eric Prydz, returns to his Pryda moniker and reaches into the vault for one of his most requested tracks and finishes it off for release on Monday. “Rotonda” has been a cult favorite for years now and having been played out in its full form in EPIC Radio 008, we are now on the cusp of its release. With this coming on Monday, “Layers” released yesterday and his “Let Me Feel” dub set for release soon, Pryda is making his statement about the summer he will be having. You may notice it has the same artwork as “Layers”, because the 25th release was split up into 25 and 25.5 over two Mondays.

Drum & Bass, FYI | Noisia & Foreign Beggars Join To Create, I Am Legion

Posted by on June 15, 2013

I Am Legion (Noisia & Foreign Beggars)One of Drum & Bass’s legendary groups, Noisia, and Grime trio, Foreign Beggars, announced their new epic collaboration project, I Am Legion. It is no surprise that the two groups decided to work together like this. They have done many great tracks together in the past including “Shellshock” and a favorite of mine, “Contact”. Just the other day I Am Legion unleashed a preview on BBC Radio 1 of their filthy new track, “Make Those Moves”. The dominant bass behemoth pounds into your ears taking no prisoners. I Am Legion may end up being one the best things to happen to Drum & Bass, Neuro-funk, and Dubstep in 2013. Keep an eye out for more killer I Am Legion tracks.

Electronic, House | Disclosure – Settle (Album Review)

Disclosure-640

These days, it’s hard to do much of anything on the internet without encountering heaps of reverential praise for the British brother-duo better known as Disclosure. They’ve become the de facto poster children for what’s cool in 2013 and have amassed a following that includes both hipster indie pop enthusiasts and their ravier twenty-something counterparts. Back in March, I remember perusing the calendar at one of my favorite clubs and noticing that they had sold out that upcoming Friday — the first Friday of the second weekend of Ultra, as it were. Not only did this not register with me at the time, but I didn’t even bother to catch them in Miami. Quelle folie. I am usually slow to warm up to bandwagon-y new groups, probably due to the fact that I am effectively a huge music snob in denial, but sometimes the hype becomes too great to overlook and bandwagons get harder and harder to ignore. In the case of Disclosure (and their now very considerable bandwagon), I can confirm that all the hype is utterly justified.

Cover, RnB, Videos | Mario – Let Me Love You (Rendition) by SoMo

Posted by on June 11, 2013

Let me start this off by saying that Mario’s Let Me Love you is arguably one of the most famous R&B songs of the 2000’s, and it is most certainly my favorite. That being said, SoMo’s version is better. Of course, Mario’s will always hold a special place in my heart as the ballad I crooned to multiple unwilling females as they struggled out of my grasp through the halls of high school. This week, SoMo let the fans decide what song to cover, and the choice was between Let Me Love You and Mirrors. Of course he did a bit of the latter at the end of the video, but the emotional, passionate feel of Let Me Love you was begging for the SoMo rendition treatment. Check out the video above and let yourself love SoMo.

FYI | Hodor From Game Of Thrones Is a DJ?

Posted by on June 11, 2013

HodorHodor. It might just be one of the best things you have heard all day. You may be heartbroken over recent events in Game Of Thrones, but this aught to brighten your day. Your favorite one-word-speaking TV show character does in fact do something else besides carry a cripple and say his own name all the time. Kristian Nairn, or Hodor, in his spare time is playing alongside the likes of Calvin Harris, Mylo and Scissor Sisters. He has played all over the world from Australia to South Africa, while holding down a residency in Belfast. He grew up playing guitar and piano, something that must have become a little difficult as a rather large person. His discography includes a remix for the Freemasons, which I cannot find on the internet, and several singles, which can be found on his myspace page (I know those still exist). He also is a gaming nerd, something common with DJs. Bonus picture of him with a cute dog. Check out his Facebook page for more info and of course cruise right on over to his Myspace page for some tunes. Hodor?

Electro, Trap | Snakehips – Make It

Posted by on June 10, 2013

Snakehips dropped this track yesterday to “tie us over” as they continue working in the studio on their next single. If this what they scrounged up just to keep us busy then I don’t think my body is ready for what they’re about to release. Guess I’ll just have to get out all my excitement by bumpin’ along to this bad boy (shouldn’t be too hard). I wasn’t sure how to go about describing this to the virgin ear, so after perusing through the comments a little bit I pulled some helpful hints — “massive,” “outer space realness,” and my favorite, “dip swang.” So don’t be fooled by the gentle intro, this song will knock you OUT.

Check it.
