Albums | 44 ardent drops new 14-track album, ‘leo’
Posted by VMan on December 15, 2023
44 Ardent is an indie-dance/house project from Australian artist Callan Alexander (aka cln), which has a sound that could be likened to a mix between Caribou, Tourist and Odesza.
When creating the 44 Ardent project back in 2018, Callan had decided to keep his real identity under wraps. The initial intention for project was simply for him to have an outlet to continue releasing the more electronic/dance focused music he was creating while his other main project, cln, began moving into a more alternative indie/pop kinda realm.
Since then, however, 44 Ardent has taken on a life of its own, and Callan is excited to reveal this project to his entire network of friends and fans, giving it the recognition it deserves.
“44 Ardent was initially supposed to be a secret/anonymous side project, but I’m not very good at keeping secrets. Quite a few people have figured out that it’s me/cln, so I’ve now decided to let the cat out of the bag. I created this project as more of an electronic outlet as cln has shifted a little bit more into the indie world. Electronic music has always been my favourite type of music to make, as you have total creative freedom. I was making so many songs that couldn’t really be released under cln, and I needed to find a place to put them. 44 Ardent is that place.” ~ Callan Alexander
Throughout 2023 Callan has given us six exceptional 44 Ardent singles, but there is still so much more to come from him this week as he shares a very generous 14-track album titled “leo”, which as he reveals below is a culmination of various genres & styles of electronic music that he has spent a lot of time exploring this year.
“leo is the culmination of all of the 44 Ardent music that I’ve made over the last year or so. I have noticed that a lot of the best producers have an approach where they focus on pumping out lots of quick ideas, and then refine the best ones. I’ve tried to follow that to an extent, making heaps of music very quickly and then only finishing the ideas that I really like. This album is the end product of that. There is a real mix of genres and styles, as I’ve tried not to corner myself into any particular sound.
I hope to keep releasing lots of music under this alias and am very grateful to my manager Jez for believing in the project and pushing it forward. Thank you for listening xx.” ~ Callan Alexander

After releasing a slew of official remixes for deadmau5 & Kieza, Judah & The Lion, SHAED & Two Feet, and ATTLAS, an 18-year-old Lamorn excitedly debuts his inaugural mau5trap single. “Physical Layer” is out now via the deadmau5-run imprint, and comes after the boss man himself discovered Lamorn during one of his mau5trap Monday streams. The masked producer says “[Lamorn’s] song ‘Physical Layer’ was so strong I had to ask him to send his session files to make sure it was him. Since then he’s remixed my song with Kiesza ‘Bridged By A Lightwave.’ Excited to welcome him to the mau5trap family and looking forward to much more from him in the near future.”
Pop | ALIGN – “When I’m With You” ft. Martina Lynn [Lowly Palace]
Posted by VMan on December 4, 2020
Chicago tropical house mainstay ALIGN returns to esteemed label Lowly Palace for his final release of 2020. His delightful “When I’m With You” featuring Martina Lynn is out now, and serves as the perfect fusion of pop and electronic.
An atypical love song, “When I’m With You” emphasizes the beautiful and healthy parts of a relationship, focusing on unconditional love between two people and leaning on one another for warmth and comfort. Sonically fusing ambient textures with rhythmic cord progressions, ALIGN weaves an emotional tale through upbeat sound scapes.
“I started writing this track by using some guitar plucks and experimenting with a soundscape. I wanted to create an ambient moment, then transition into more of a rhythmic beat. That soundscape became something that I could write chords on top of and develop a beat and melodies. I loved where it was going, but I knew it needed somebody’s story to accompany it. Martina seemed like the perfect fit for the vibe of this track.” – ALIGN

With a lifetime of musicianship under his belt, electronic artist Direwulf is venturing into territory with a progressive house/synth-wave sound with a new identity- Flash Paint- and new music. Never one to be tied down to any genre, the new single “Driver” is a catchy yet laid-back offering that highlights the multi-genre artist’s natural musical versatility by honing in anthemic synth-tinged sonics and heavy beat that transport you right to the club.
Speaking of the track, he said : “ With “Driver” I want to bring people on a journey, somewhere out of this world and into the synthwave cyberpunk world.”
The accompanying music video- made in collaboration with an Italian animator Luca- further elevates the out-of-the-world experience the track boasts. About the video, Flash Paint commented: “The track creates a little dystopian world and the video is literally bringing you guys to that world.”
Having been part of the world of music since the young age of nine, Flash Paint- who is also the founding and producer of popular metal-core band, Vivienne’s Verdict- has played everything from metal to rock n roll and pop to house, tech- house, electro, trance, trap and dubstep. Albums | ALIGN Drops “Second Thoughts” via Lowly Palace
Posted by VMan on March 9, 2020
In his first offering of 2020, Chicago-based ALIGN follows up his lush debut EP Intertwine with an effervescent new single, “Second Thoughts” ft. Becca Krueger. “Second Thoughts” is out now on Lowly Palace.
A vibrant amalgamation of ALIGN’s pop and electronic styles, “Second Thoughts” ft. Becca Krueger is a shining display of the producers’ many talents. Sumptuous synths set the stage from the get go, as Becca Krueger’s sultry smooth voice coaxes listeners into sweet serenity. A backsound riddled with luminous production and whirring melodies, ALIGN’s composition serves as a lovely testament to the producers strengths. Featuring infectious percussive elements reminiscent of ODESZA and Louis The Child, ALIGN’s newest is one to keep coming back to.
“’Second Thoughts’ is something I wrote with the intention of having an overall uplifting atmosphere and vibe. I loved where the track was going instrumentally, and felt like Becca was the missing voice the song needed. Becca’s lyrics provide a really cool balance as she’s narrating something relatable to all of us. I feel that the content of her story and the music itself meet in the middle to provide a nice degree of harmony together.” – ALIGN

Featuring an infectious hook for pop fans, groovy production for house fans and instrumentation for the indie fan, it’s an addictive first run for Fare.
Electronic | Newcomer Britton shines with “Under Your Skin”
Posted by VMan on March 19, 2018
Not much is known about the freshly launched artist project Britton but if his first release is any indication of what’s yet to come then count me in. From the lush vocals to the hypnotizing synths his debut single “Under Your Skin” shines in all the right places. Although the song is about heartbreak the overall vibe makes you feel warm, seems fitting for the start of Spring. Available as a free download here.
