PJ Simas kicked off 2012 with a new weekly series he coined as “Simas Sunday”. Artists that have successfully done this (Timeflies, e-dubble), have had an enormous boost in fan activity, keeping their content fresh and interesting. Although we’ve missed the first couple weeks of Simas Sunday, we haven’t been completely ignoring the music. PJ has sampled & twisted Drake’s “The Motto” as well as J. Cole’s “Work Out”, released an all original track, and most recently collaborated with Dylan Owen. In addition to these releases, Sactown’s finest will be dropping another all original album this spring.

Hi-Rez recently released a new track, “X-Problems” featuring QuEST, sharing some clever relationship rhymes. In other news, Hi-Rez will be performing this year at Bamboozle in NJ.

Jon Kilmer’s highly sought after beat tape, Sheeps, Jeeps, & Beats, which he released back on Christmas Day, has had several up and coming artists testing their flow. Huey Mack is far from a new face on the scene and has established himself as an artist. This doesn’t mean he can’t hop on this Blink 182 & Warren G infusion.

Hip-Hop, Mixtapes | Dylan Owen – Keep Your Friends Close (EP)
Posted by dshaq on January 22, 2012
This is honestly one of the best pieces of music that I have ever heard. Dylan Owen gives us this brand spankin new 11 song EP. Each song is a phenomenal story with beats to compliment Dylan’s flow. The emotion of the lyrics is what makes this EP so special, each song is just jam-packed with them, and that’s why Dylan is so good, oh and well he raps really good too, because it’s about real life problems and that’s what makes it easy to relate to. With a quality release like this, the sky is the limit for Dylan. So do yourself a favor and make sure you download this.

Hip-Hop | Dylan Owen – Burn This Whole Place Down

Can January 22nd come any sooner? Keep Your Friends Close, Dylan Owen’s newest EP, will be available for free then, and I’m all in with this kid. I’ve been following Dylan since he released “The Book Report”. His flow is impeccable with so much emotion and passion, it makes me cherish each new release. Any way, here we have a sample from a John Mayer track, Who Says. Mr. Owen throws some straight fire over this beat. Set your calendars to check back for the tape, but in the meantime check out Dylan’s Facebook and Twitter.

Also Dylan did a song, “Dreams”, with Reef of Fortune Fam and they sampled Adele’s piano riff from “Someone Like You”. August Coupe on the production.

Hip-Hop, Videos | Dylan Owen & Reef ft. Grace Kelly- Dreams
Posted by GMONEY on December 13, 2011
Dreams are only dreams until you write them down. Then they become your goals. It’s safe to say Dylan Owen (coming off his Sheeps, Jeeps, and Beats win) and Reef (of Fortune Family) have been writing their dreams down, as evidenced by this new August Coupe produced track with Grace Kelly on the hook. The visuals were shot by the infamously gregarious John Kilmer, who is perhaps the hottest up-and-coming director in the game right now. In the words of Kilmer, “Youtube platinum baby, is what you ain’t.” But, I digress.
Interestingly enough, all three artists attend New York University, and I’m sure they’re doing more than their fair share of writing considering it’s finals time. If you like what you hear, you can get in touch with them here, here, and here. No dream comes true until you wake up and go to work. It’s safe to say Dylan, Reef, and Grace are well on their way to accomplishing them.

At the beginning of November, we launched the Jon Kilmer’s Music Video Contest, in promotion of his upcoming free beats mixtape, Sheeps Jeeps and Beats, which drops Christmas morning.
