Breakout artist Gutter Brothers were kind enough to let us in on their exclusive live mix from Dim Mak Studios during their set at Blasted. For those of you who haven’t heard of them, the LA-based duo has been banging out top-of-the-line bass music since October of last year, gaining support from big-name artists like Borgore, ETC!ETC!, Kennedy Jones, and more. Despite being on the scene for such a short period of time, these boys have already thrown down releases on Ultra, High Intensity, Clubtapes, and other labels, even going on to win Insomniac’s Discovery Project, becoming a featured artist at Beyond Wonderland. Expect big things from these guys in the future, check out their new EP “Dat Ass” (which was #3 on the Beatport Hip-Hop chart), grab a free download of this mix, and then bump it aloud as you can; it absolutely hits (including the unreleased “Steve Twerkle”).

Events | Electric Zoo Phase 3 Lineup Announcement

Posted by on June 4, 2013

Electric Zoo 2012

Made Event’s Electric Zoo has announced the third phase of its lineup, filling in the blanks on stages outside of the two mainstages. There have been a few additions to the mainstages, like Deniz Koyu, Henrix and Vicetone, two guys we are really proud to see make to the MainStage. This round fills in the rest of the label and style specific tents like the Sunday School Groove tent, where you will find your dance music snobs and underground aficionados posted up all three days, the Riverside Tent, hosting Dim Mak, Dog Blood vs OWLSA & Fools Gold with names like Olver, RL Grime, Jacques Lu Cont, Alvin Risk, Congorock, & Yolande be Cool all in support.

One stage that is very interesting is the Hilltop Stage because of the eclectic nature of the artists each day. At first it seems like there is no rhyme or reason for the choices there, but depending on set times, it could be one of the best stages because of the transitions from uplifting trance in John O’Callaghan to a guy like Torro Torro and then to Bauuer, all within three time slots. It is a little disappointing to not see a trance stage, but with guys like Orjan Nilsen, Armin van Buuren, Above & Beyond, Khoma and Aly & Fila on the MainStage, trance will be just fine. Also many trance stages at US festivals have devolved into electro / big room sets with a smattering of trance sprinkled in, so it is not surprising to see one not there. There are still tickets on sale, with single day passes now being made available, and there are still a few artists to come, so be on the lookout for that. Grab your tickets here. Check the full lineup after the jump.

Events | Electric Zoo Phase 2 Lineup Headliners

Posted by on May 7, 2013

Electric Zoo 2012

We are starting to get a full picture of how Electric Zoo will look this year after the announcement that it would have two mainstages. Electric Zoo is slowly releasing the names for those who will be coming to Randall’s Island on Labor Day weekend, following the first wave of artists who will take over the mainstages. Phase 2 fills in some of the gaps for the rest of the tents that give the festival its character and diversity, from the Sunday School tent to the Riverside Arena. As suspected, the festival has expanded from 4 stages to 5, so there will be more artists, more choice and inevitably more painstaking, heart-wrenching conflicts over artist time slots (Laidback Luke vs. Steve Aoki is not one… I hope I don’t have to tell you why).

Repeat from last year the Riverside Arena will see Dim Mak take over on Sunday, while Friday will see the joint takeover of Riverside by OWSLA and Boyz Noise Records and A-Trak’s Fools Gold Records on Saturday. The Sunday School Grooooove tent will have new proprietors with Adam Beyers’s Drum Code coming to town on Sunday to bring some techno in your face. There does not appear to be a trance stage, which is a bit disappointing, though Armin, Ferry Corsten, Above & Beyond and Markus Schulz are all on the lineup separately. Nobody as of yet has made their claim to any of the Hilltop days, but the lineup’s seem eclectic enough that they would lack a clear label owner. There are more artists to be announced, so do despair if you feel it is lacking in trance or house or dubstep, just wait, especially for the label tents. There is also the option to buy a Friday combo pack, where you buy a ticket for Friday + either Saturday or Sunday, so decide your festival experience. Tickets are on sale now, so grab them below. Check the full lineup after the jump.

Electro-House | Dzeko & Torres – Hey EP

Posted by on December 18, 2012

Toronto duo, Dzeko & Torres make their Dim Mak debut with a three track EP comprised of two new records, “Hey” and “Check This Out”, as well as the previously released for free download “Buppy”. “Hey”, highlights the tougher side of their sound, using a prolonged riser and grungy low end. “Buppy”, the free download, continues along the vein of harder electro tracks that this EP brings to the table as a standout Dim Mak release with its punchy bass line and grinding synths. “Check This Out” brings together a distorted bass line with high pitched synths and what would a track be without an air horn? Interview to come later this week with the guys, you will want to stick around for this one.

Electro-House, Girl Fire, Pop | Felix Cartal – Black to White (feat. Miss Palmer)

Posted by on March 7, 2012

I wasn’t remotely sure how to categorize Felix Cartal’s feel-good banger last time around, so we’re covering all conceivable bases here and going with electro-house-pop-girl fire. “Black to White” is now out on Dim Mak and is completely worthy of your 99 cents. This track is built for the dance floor and coming soon to a packed bar near you. Peep the hook and you’ll know what I mean.
