Top 50 dance tracks of 2013

Yes we know, you may be “top _____ of 2013” listed out, but bear with us as we present you our top 50 dance tracks of 2013. In the past we have done just big room / progressive, but here we attempt to take on the whole genre, from trap to progressive to deep house. A few ground rules and biases for how these tracks were selected. “Top” means biggest and best. So the most supported and played out tracks, first and foremost, but also our own bias as well to make this list not just a carbon copy of every other one you have read. All of us are based in the US / Canada, so our perception of what is played live is a largely US worldview, though we try and take a step back. The songs have to have been released in 2013. So tracks like “Easy”, “I Could Be The One”, “Alive”, “Clarity” and “Harlem Shake”, while all huge in 2013, won’t qualify for the list because they were released in 2012. Tough luck, but I think the artists will manage. Check out 50-41 after the jump and at the end find links for 40-31, 30-21, 20-11 and the best of the best, 10-1.

Arty just doesn’t make bad songs. It has taken him over a year to finish this song since he first premiered it two New Years Eve’s ago on Pier 94 in NYC and hearing the final product makes it worth the wait. Arty is already on off to an outstanding start to the year with his collab with Armin “Nehalennia” having staying power atop the Beatport trance charts and now with probably his most sought after ID being released, Arty is quickly making his way into the dance music elite. “Together We Are” combines everything you want from Arty and more — a subtly complex bass line, heavily reverbed piano creating a sublime melody, ethereal strings, atmospheric pads and vocals from Chris James that fit the song like a glove. Look for more from Arty soon with a remix package for “Together We Are” in March with the instrumental mix, his single “Believe In Me” coming on Anjunabeats Volume 10 and he hinted at the release of “Grand Final” in April or May during his Mixify Set.

It just isn’t fair sometimes. Everything this man makes is just too good. First premiered last New Years, Arty’s most sought after ID is finally finished and has its release info. He added vocals from Chris James of “The Veldt” fame to the track and it works very well. Just bask in the blissful glow of the lush pads and reverbed piano and know that February 18th Big Beat will have this release for you.

Progressive House | Hot Mouth Feat. Chris James – Totally Worth It (PeaceTreaty Remix)

Posted by on December 12, 2012

California duo PeaceTreaty have released for free their remix of Hot Mouth’s “Totally Worth It” with Chris James of “The Veldt” fame on vocals. PeaceTreaty take this track with the infectious vocals from Chris James and gives the build more anticipation for a simplified, stripped down drop that still keeps the same progression as the original. This remix has quietly been gaining a lot of support from some of the biggest names in the business and has become a big late year remix. The original has brought Hot Mouth’s career to another level and has become the name for his new podcast.

Electro-House, House | LAZRtag – Let Me See Those Hands (Hot Mouth Remix)

Posted by on July 26, 2012

Hot Mouth, One half of LA Riots, has released his remix of LAZRtag’s single “Let Me See Those Hands” using a distorted hip hop vocal sample that helps carry the percussion based build into a hard drop of horns and pitched synths. This song is a great change of pace from your normal progressive tracks and modern talking / massive pack electro house tunes that I enjoy, but a change from time to time is always good. Check it out on Beatport below with the original mix and a nice Moombahcore mix from ETC! ETC!.

Also included are two originals from Hot Mouth with Chris James of “The Veldt” fame on vocals that gives us a build based around a guitar melody and Chris James’ vocals, with a drop of funky, chopped electro house stabs that are perfect for a club. Federico Scavo gives the track more of a tech twist, which works very well as it is a song that lends itself to a tech remix.

House | Deadmau5 feat. Chris James – The Veldt

Posted by on May 6, 2012

Deadmau5 has released the lead single “The Veldt” from his upcoming The Veldt EP to be released June 25th. With flowing melodies, a steady bass line and blissful piano progressions this is a track that will force a smile onto your face. The Ray Bradbury short story inspired vocals from Chris James, who Deadmau5 found on twitter, pushes this song into the upper echelon of Deadmau5’s illustrious discography.

Time to polish the mau5 helmets because we have a new amazing track from Deadmau5 to wait for. Featuring vocalist Chris James, this smooth and melodic house track makes you wish it was longer…even though this is in fact an almost 9 minute radio edit of the original. Makes you wonder how long the original must be. Deadmau5 is a god when it comes to producing, he can do just about anything and excel at it. It is no surprise that this turned out to be just another track of  his that you can get lost in forever. No word yet on a release date, but the Mau5 says soon!
