Albums, Hip-Hop | EmB – The Establishment

Posted by on December 30, 2011

EmB is new to my ears by only a few minutes, and is quite the refreshment. Aging like vintage wine, EmB at only 19 years old has soaked up a buffet of wizardry he’d like to share with us. His voice is a mixture of AZ & Mase with subject matter that puts both to shame making them look like the young ones. What first caught my ear is EmB’s vast selection of instrumentals that show his class for music of all kinds. Furthermore his interludes give hints of inspiration ranging from Tupac Shakur, Charlie Chaplin and one of the greatest philosophers the worlds ever had the privilege of learning from – Krishnamurti. EmB writes in his biography – taking shots at the mainstream and people who just can’t lend their ears for a minute and listen to some music with any type of direction. Of course I agree with that. Be sure to check his earlier project Brain Waves on Bandcamp. Shout out to Fly in the cbox for putting me on to this.

Hip-Hop | Friendzone & Main Attrakionz

Posted by on December 3, 2011

Main Attrakionz mixed in with the production of Friendzone has really made for something special yet again. This duo has had the same affect on me as did Drake & 40’s So Far Gone the way each project is packaged so purely unique and timeless. Sure they may not relate but times change as do the fresh sounds we embrace, define as new, and evolve from.

Friendzone’s melodies are so incredible that the vocals tend to come partially after your ears are consumed by the lush atmosphere of his instrumentals. Its as if the beats take on a life of there own and feature the artists, truly a fascinating thing. In a lot of ways reminding me of indie how the vocals come across in a very dream-like kind of way, as if you have the option to make sense of them or not.

I’ve decided to keep this post strictly Hip Hop so I’ve excluded the tape from download simply because there is only a few tracks with vocals, and these three below are indeed the best of the best compressed out of it. If for whatever reason you require the tape drop me a line in the cbox section to the right of the page and its yours.

House | Swedish House Mafia – Save The World

Posted by on March 28, 2011

So I decided to post this for two reasons…first off, this song is going to be an international chart topper and the final piece of the puzzle to truly bring edm to the mainstream front. It features the perfect amount of poppiness, friendly vocals (thanks to yet another Swede, John Martin), and that party sound we all crave. Second, theres some slight confusion that the world debut was at Midnight Masquarade when in fact it was debuted in the above video in Australia. Song of the year…no questions asked. Shout out to Adrian in the cbox for inspiring this…

DO SOMETHING

Hip-Hop, RnB, Videos | XV, Saigon, Chris Brown, Snoop Dogg | HIP HOP

Posted by on February 10, 2011

XV is on top of his game. His newest video, entitled, “F.I.F.A. (One Shot),” incorporates two separate visual takes. It makes for a more interesting video. In this day of age, artists need to make sure their videos are visually stimulating. Props to XV, and the director of the vid, Court Dunn, for making it work.

Saigon does nothing but impress. The following track, produced by Kanye West and Just Blaze, is real chill. I love this sort of stuff.

Snoop Dogg gets some help from Jim Jones and Shawty Low for the “G-Mix” of his track, “Wet.” Listen to it with speakers, it’s kind of trippy.

The following Breezy track may be included in his upcoming album, F.A.M.E (set to drop March 22). Chris worked with Swiss Beatz on this one. I haven’t formed an opinion as to whether I like it or not. Sound off in the cbox.

Jagged Edge gets sensitive on their track, “Through My Veins,” which may be included on the group’s upcoming album, The Remedy. For those of you who need some occasional “baby making music,” this should work.
