Cam Meekins’ free album :) :/ :( is finally here. After hearing multiple tracks off the project such as “Cut Me Off” & “#FuckYoBitch”, I knew Cam was onto something different compared to his past projects. I’ve listened to the entire mixtape and it indeed has a totally different sound. In Cam’s beginning he used to make songs where he’d sing hooks over beats that had a more pop sound such as tracks from the Dancing With The Stars mixtape. Cam is now proving his lyrical abilities and still singing as well, but with a more developed sound. Going in over relatively simple beats while keeping the baseline heavy. I recommend this to anyone looking for something new.
Hip-Hop, RnB | Sid Sriram – Elevate ft. Sonny Shotz
Posted by Grubeats on May 15, 2012
You may recognize the name, Sid Sriram, from his feature on The Dean’s List debut album, Generation X. Honing his powerful vocals from his bodacious hook on “Youth”, Sid slows it down and delivers a more soulful and almost trippy track. As expected, Sonny returns the favor, lending a feature verse on this new track. It’s safe to say there will be plenty more collaborative work from these two in the future.
Also, if my memory serves me correctly, I heard Sid was a roommate of Mik Beats (of The Dean’s List) freshman year at Berklee, which is where this relationship first began.

Hip-Hop, Interviews, Videos | Cam Meekins – Obedear | On The Spot Interview [FNT Exclusive]
Posted by LoffyG on May 7, 2012
Cam Meekins releases a new track exclusively with FNT that’s a spinoff of Purity Ring’s “Odebear”. I dig the way Cam went in on this one. He has grown so much as an artist since his days of Dancing With The Stars. I was also able to get Cam on the line for my “On The Spot” interview. We talk a ton of different topics such as 3D movies, his longest road trip, who makes the best french fries, the free album and more. We are only 2 weeks away from the release of :) :/ :( so be on the lookout for that here when it drops!
Hip-Hop, Videos | The Dean’s List – Take Shape [Video]

Although Vevo prematurely released this video back on April 3 when Generation X hit digital shelves, the video was quickly pulled and saved for a release earlier this week. As most of you probably know by now, The Dean’s List recently delivered one of the top hip-hop albums of 2012 in “Generation X”, a comprehensive journey of life. Beginning with birth, Sonny, Mik, & Mendoza share their story thus far with a track for each step of the journey. “Take Shape” focuses on the point where recognition sets in and their careers begin to come to fruition. Sonny laces up with his Hendrix looking wig as FTS Creative shoots some trippy visuals for this light party anthem. My question to you is, who has the best costume?

Hip-Hop | YONAS – One More Time
Posted by Grubeats on April 9, 2012
Gearing up for the release of his ‘ReMixtape’, entitled “The Translation”, YONAS knuckles up and takes a swing at Daft Punk’s house favorite from 2002, “One More Time”. YONAS has released a few remixes over the past several months, including his token track, “Pumped Up Kicks” which surpassed the million play mark on Youtube last month. Although the realest outta NYC is perfecting his remix game, he has ensured me he has plenty of original content on the way.
I first heard this track a month or so ago when I saw YONAS perform it live in Boston, instantly classifying it as a crowd pleasing hit. I was spoiled with a sub-par video recording of the performance I’ve been looping since, but this CDQ just made my day. If you’re a fan of house and/or Daft Punk, which I know many of you are, give this track a spin and ride with the Bronx native… One. More. Time.

Albums, Hip-Hop, Videos | The Dean’s List – Generation X [Album]

Just over a year ago, The Dean’s List took the blogosphere by storm with the release of their highly successful and career defining mixtape, The Drive-In. Prior to that release, the Boston trio consisting of Sonny Shotz, DJ Mendoza, and Mik Beats had released a haphazard mixtape, Undeclared, on iTunes with hopes of collecting some coin for their 100% in-house work. If you ask them, they will likely all agree this wasn’t the right move, but luckily they recovered control of the wheel and drove-in to their self dubbed genre, “It’s The Dean’s List”. With infusions of hip-hop, pop, electro, classic sampling, an offering of unconventional bar and song lengths, placed them in a lane of their own.
While The Drive-In instilled the mentality of “F it I’m young” into the ears of its listeners, Generation X takes you on a journey through the come up The Dean’s List have experienced thus far. I have not listened to the project in full yet, but I did just contribute to its rise to the #1 spot on the iTunes charts. From what I have heard of the project, I will say Mik and Mendoza have taken their production to the next level once again, offering up an organic blend of all different genre’s while Sonny continues to deliver first string lyrics that are far deeper than the rap. For anyone who appreciates up and coming art, invest the $11.99 in this album and I can guarantee you will not be disappointed. If you’re still skeptic, go ahead and download The Drive-In for free and listen from start to finish.
Above, is the video for “Youth” featuring Sid Sriram (ironically Mik’s roommate from freshman year), shot and directed by Elan Alexenberg of FTS Creative, one of the best at his craft. This video depicts the message behind the song to a T, stuck in between being a kid and fame.
Special shout out to the whole Dean’s List roster along with Dani Ummel (the bodacious vocals behind “No Sleep” off The Drive-In), who makes 5 appearances on this album.

Electronic | Clinton Sparks Performs w/ DJ Tiesto @ Mohegan Son

Boston’s own, Clinton Sparks is a man that embodies all things awesome. From hosting television shows on E! to being nominated for his work on Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” it seems 2012 has been his year. Just a few weeks ago, Clinton released “My Awesome Mixtape 2” a torrid dance mix that took the electronic dance world by storm. Once solely a hip-hop producer, Clinton has begun to focus on electronic music as of late, diligently carving out a lane all his own.
Clinton shows no signs of stopping, as he’s already gearing up for “My Awesome Mixtape 3” slated to drop in May. Next week, you can expect the full version of “My Own Worst Enemy” to drop as well as a possible “Climax” remix in the near future. Be on the look out for his upcoming single “Watch You” featuring Pitbull and Disco Fries coming soon. 2012 may be just be the year of Clinton Sparks. Get Familiar!
