House | Botnek & 3LAU – Vikings (Bixel Boys Remix)
Posted by Middy on September 17, 2014
The Bixel Boys keep on killing it with great tunes, great marketing and the Freelife shirts that a who’s who of DJs have been sporting. With a couple of originals under their belts this summer, the duo get back to remixes, being tabbed by Dim Mak records to take on one of their biggest tunes this year “Vikings”. With its quintessential Botnek sound, “Vikings” was a smash from the get go, personified by the crowd reaction at Ultra during Jack U’s set. The Bixel Boys add their “big room underground” twist to the tune as Rob & Ian come close to Oliver Heldens, but stay far enough away to remain fresh sounding with this one.

And here it is, “Clutch” the B side of the Bixel Boys’ debut EP “Empire” is now here, and it sounds like some throwback “pump up the jam” track with a 21st century twist, which honestly you might catch me with a portable boombox blasting this in the city for the break dancers it’s so retro-cool. Yeah, I just played this tune for the 10th time, and I’m inspired to try out some break dancing moves on some cardboard on the sidewalk, so keep in mind if you get that feeling to break it down, dance responsibly!! This is a must listen!

The Bixel Boys’ latest original “Empire” is super fresh on that underground big room vibe and one you def don’t want to sleep on, because I have a feeling it’s going to be picked up by a lot of DJs because of it’s dark, big room festival appeal. There is something intriguing about this record, and refreshing as well, which I invite you all to check out. If you’re a fan of this track, look out for their new EP released on June 27th on Beatport! This is a must listen!

Two Fridays ago in New York it monsooned. Not your average everyday, downpour with the occasional flash of lightning, but a serious cloth soaking, 100% humidity state of affairs that created deceptive “puddles” that would envelop your entire lower leg up to your knee. Despite this and a 4 hour flight delay because of it, The Bixel Boys got to Webster Hall to play alongside the big man himself (he is actually a rather tall and imposing figure), Tchami.
So me hoarse from yelling over the music and a busted voice from a week of tough allergies and a cold, managed to get out some ridiculous questions to the guys and they gave me some great answers with Tchami “Untrue” blaring in the background.
House, Preview | Kiesza – Hideaway (Bixel Boys Remix) [Preview]
Posted by Middy on May 15, 2014
On the eve of their show at Webster Hall tomorrow (we may have some words with them, not like the words they have in hockey, but real ones), the Bixel Boys preview a new remix, this time for Canadian songstress Kiesza. “Hideaway” has quietly become an underground sensation with remixes already in the books by the likes of Gorgon City and Dzeko & Torres, with many more to come. Drawing us back in to the smooth and sexy sound we know from them after a more aggressive effort for Thomas Newson, the California duo create a jam fit for their own coasts and your pools. There is no release date yet, but we hope it is this summer so you can jam poolside.

A bit different than what we are used to hearing from the Bixel Boys, the SO Cal duo have been tabbed by Armada Music to remix Thomas Newson’s recent single “Don’t Hold Us” with the angelic vocals of Angelika Vee. Preview the full tune below as we see their ability to expand beyond their comfort zones and try something new. The tune hits stores digitally on May 19th, so be sure to grab it then. NYC, the Bixel Boys will be at Webster with Tchami on Friday, May 16th. You are going. #FreeLife
