Dubstep | Pretty Lights – So Bright

Posted by on October 2, 2012

This may be the first time ever that Pretty Lights is making us buy a new single of his. This is a huge step in the artist’s career seeing as he has prided himself on the ability to release all of his music for free despite their availability on iTunes and Beatport. “So Bright” actually has little bit of Dark Soul style to it, mainly having to do with Pretty Lights’ way of infusing Dubstep with Soul and Hip-Hop. Not including his usual vocal sampling, the unnamed guy that comes in to drop a few verses is a nice touch. Pretty Lights is still a pioneer in EDM, it has been some time since he has released a big project. I wonder if this is the beginning to one?

UPDATE!!!!!: So Pretty Lights has stated this was not supposed to release yet so he has released it for free on his site. He has stuck with his original idea of everything free, true class.

Electro-House | Popeska – Karmameter EP

Posted by on September 18, 2012

You’ve really got to hand it to nineteen year-old Popeska. While there are plenty of remarkable DJ success stories out there, many of them can be traced back to one catalytic event, like winning a Beatport contest, winning multiple Beatport contests, or simply forging a direct line to Skrillex. Not so with the young Atlanta native, who gradually pulled himself up through the ranks of Soundcloud and amassed a legion of loyal followers by consistently churning out impressive original tracks with a fresh and distinctive flavor. Eventually he made it onto Wolfgang Gartner’s radar; suddenly we were seeing tweets and status updates about hanging out with Modestep in LA and traveling to Barcelona for inspiration. Now, maybe a year after this entire process was first set into motion, the kid has officially made it: a four track EP on Wolfgang Gartner’s imprint picked up exclusively by Beatport. Karmameter is in keeping with Popeska’s glitchy aesthetic; there’s a complex, almost orchestral opulence to these tracks, which all fall somewhere in the gray area between dubstep, electro house and nu-disco and are undergirded by formidable bass. And as we’ve seen in his past efforts, he makes judicious use of catchy vocals (on “Liar” and the moombah-tinged “Atlantis”) to supplement his instrumentals. If you’ve been following Popeska since the early days, you should absolutely continue to support him by purchasing his EP on Beatport. It’s clear that this is only the beginning for the young producer.

Electro-House | Wolfgang Gartner – Casual Encounters of the 3rd Kind EP

Posted by on July 30, 2012

After a weekend of nonstop action at Identity Festival, Wolfgang Gartner got down to business this morning and dropped a two-track EP on Beatport. My initial reaction to Casual Encounters of the 3rd Kind is a resounding mehhhh; there are no big, infectious melodies a la “Redline,” “Flexx” or the inimitable “Illmerica” here, and while that’s not automatically a bad thing, the clean, simple and repetitive game has been played to more kinetic and spectacular effect elsewhere (ex: Afrojack’s “Pop On Acid;” Wolfgang’s own “Space Junk”). Maybe it’s just that I’m aggressively not feeling the whiny loop at the beginning of “Girl on Boy” (can’t help but think that Alvin Risk would have done something better there) but these tracks just don’t seem to go anywhere that interesting. But who knows, maybe they’ll wind up being awesome live. We shall see, I guess. Check out the EP and let us know what you think.

DO SOMETHING

Progressive House | PeaceTreaty – In Time (feat. Anabel Englund)

Posted by on July 24, 2012

PeaceTreaty’s amazing track In Time has finally hit the shelves and couldn’t come at a more perfect time. This uplifting house piece was just brought to my attention recently and since then it has been floating in the back of my mind just waiting to be played on repeat. Starting from the beginning this masterpiece’s melody catches your attention and wants to send you into a dancing craze. Once the vocal’s from Anabel Englund begin is where the track really comes together, and not to mention how well the vocals complement the melody and progression of the track. All around this is a undisputed, must have summer tune for everyone. Grab this track on Beatport HERE.

Dubstep | Audioshock – Faceless (xKore Remix)

Posted by on June 11, 2012

xKore feeling generous today and giving away this free remix. Known for his heaving mashing of growl sounds, xKore delivers this amazing remix of Audioshocks “Faceless”. Using some nice piano melodies in the beginning which we aren’t used to seeing from xKore, then slowly building his way into a vicious drop. This track is not for the weak hearted, so be warned.

Dubstep | Kyau & Albert – Ill Be There For You (Mt. Eden RMX)

Posted by on May 22, 2012

The almost never disappointing Mt. Eden decided it was time to let the people have their Kyau & Albert remix. I never understood why artist kept tracks under lock for so long, but I’m always glad to see them finally being let go. Throughout this remix we see all the aspects that bring us to like Mt.Eden so much. From the beginning we have a nice progression of sounds through the vocals, that builds up to the stylish drop using those famous Mt.Eden synths.
