Ambient, Chill | ORCA – My Zenith

Posted by on January 28, 2014

Cream Collective has been killin’ it lately. Orca is the newest addition to the Cream Collective, hailing from Brighton, Britain. “My Zenith” is chill, relaxing and tranquil, without being boring. Birds chirp along with occasional subtle vocal sampling over an ethereal atmosphere in this mellow masterpiece. Look out for his upcoming collaboration with SYZ in February on Cream Collective, and grab this one for free straight from Soundcloud!

Chill, Trap | Cleindl – Girl

Posted by on January 27, 2014

I’ve been listening to this track non-stop in my car and finally that decided it needs to be posted. “Girl” by Japanese producer Cleindl is relaxing, eerie, and fresh. Every layer in this track sounds crisp and clean. Vocal chopping and sampling laid over trap beats lays the base for this unique original song. If you’re digging the stylish atmosphere brought forth by Cleindl you can download it for free via Facebook.

Ambient, Chill | Atu – Doubts

Posted by on January 2, 2014

Here’s another lovely track to kick off January right. Atu’s original track “Doubts” has a superb atmosphere and some really smooth piano in it. Ambient and classy, I have no doubt (haha get it) that this track is excellent. If we had a tab for “baby making music” I would definitely pop this track in there. The little extra section at the end is especially pretty. Big ups to Atu for this one!

Beginning February 12, Rhymesayers and Atmosphere bring you the Fourth Annual “Welcome To Minnesota Tour,” with performances from: Atmosphere, Toki Wright X Big Cats, No Bird Sing, deM atlaS and Jimmy2times. With the typical, all-to-good-but-simple Atmosphere beat, he really delivers with this new single. Can’t really say he’s ever done a song wrong, but this one is especially good.

Insight brings forth a treasure chest of gems on this compilation that is sure to keep you captivated all the way through. It’s calm, eerie and has a cool ambient atmosphere of mystery and deep thought. Some noteworthy tracks for W8 are 2,7, and 13. I’d add 4 to that list as well, but they are all worth a listen! It’s free to download if you’re into it.

Events, Featured, Review | RECAP: Alesso @ The Aragon Ballroom 11/23

A brisk Chicago night seemed very fitting for the show that Swedish sensation and top DJ Alesso would soon play. A sold out show awaited us as we arrived to the beautiful Aragon Ballroom venue, with an array of personalities passing by. The line for admission went back a good couple hundred people deep and even curled around the alley next to the venue. Everyone stood freezing in line, anxiously awaiting to step into the warm building.

By the time we got situated at the venue, the opener, Luminox, began his set. We all remember him for the huge remix to Bingo Players’ “Rattle”. Showing a wide variety of sounds and styles, Luminox threw one hell of an opening set, even dropping in some Cashmere Cat “No Lie” a personal favorite… With the crowd getting into it, Luminox created a great atmosphere going into Alesso’s set.

Finally it was time for Alesso to perform and the crowd went nuts. Beginning with one of his notable singles, Years, he started it off with a lot of energy that really got the crowd engaged. Everything about the set was phenomenal. The drops never disappointed any of the great build-ups he created, and all the transitions were smooth and clean. He also made sure to highlight his brand new single with Calvin Harris, “Under Control”, by playing it as appreciation to the crowd for such a great show. With a relatively longer set at around an hour and forty-five minutes, Alesso never once lost his audience’s focus. A big round of applause to the Swede for putting on a fantastic show and set, and really look forward to his new songs.

Also, I would like to send a huge thank you to React Presents, who ran the show. I can’t say enough good things about how the concert was run so efficiently and smoothly. Make sure to hit them up on Facebook and Twitter as well because they have some pretty sweet upcoming shows in Chicago during December.

Rudimental

Rudimental have taken the world by storm. Their single “Feel The Love” rose to the top of the charts in the UK and became a worldwide phenomenon. They have not stopped there with a host of other chart topping singles like “Not Giving In” and “Waiting All Night”. Their live show is about as energetic and “live” as there is in dance music, bringing what they call “a carnival atmosphere” to every festival and city they visit. The foursome have come a long way with their album “Home”, showing their strong UK dance influences, while keeping it soulful and unique on every track.

We had the chance to chat with them after their show with Emili Sandé two weeks ago in Central Park and talk about their incredible music videos, trying to build on their success and what they have coming up, including tracks with The Game and Ed Shereen. Click past the jump for the full interview, but before you do, watch their video for “Right Here”, it is epic. You can grab their now Platinum selling album “Home” on iTunes here. Big congrats to the guys for that!
